Writingforums Reviews

Very supportive
Jan 31, 2023 07:13 PM 202 Views

I can't speak to some of the reviews from MANY years ago, but that is not the situation I found when I joined WritingForums.com in May of 2020. I found, and continue to find, a community of friendly and generous writers who are willing to share advice or just "talk shop". Okay, it's the internet . you get a bad apple once in a while . but that is FAR from the norm on this site. The staff is friendly and the site has a wealth of good writing information, with a strong presence in both fiction and poetry.

This site is not so good !!!

This site can be extremely beguiling. It looks extraordinary, there is by all accounts a great deal of exchange on numerous points. In any case, on the off chance that you visit it regularly enough, will undoubtedly encounter the site executive, English based writer Robert Staniford. As overseer, he calls himself "Nobleman, " if that provides you any insight. Stanford is a humorless and forceful self-promoter. He possesses the site, is editorial manager of something many refer to as Mobley Press and assumes a key part in an independently publishing wander called Beatrice Benn Books. One presumes that his genuine explanation behind assuming control over the site is to troll for prospects for his different sidelines. He bans advancement of creator's works and creator's destinations, unless, obviously, they experience his organizations and pay him appropriately. On the off chance that he ever gets booted out, the site could maybe satisfy its potential.

I joined around 5 distinctive composition gatherings in the meantime with one objective: get input on my written work! I additionally did a snappy post in the introduction sheets of a few of them. I got a practically prompt reaction at writingforums.com. A whole string of posts from different individuals. It was stunning. I additionally got extraordinary criticism on posts of my first endeavor at a sentiment story, despite the fact that sentiment was not the class of a large portion of the journalists there. It was sufficient to keep me around, that is without a doubt. I attempt my best to give the greatest number of evaluates back as I can now. Cherish it there! Very prescribe it.

Garbage

Writingforums.com is like any other such forum. Mostly composed of self publishing "authors" who think they have talent. Some do, most don't. But as they are all widely in the same league they just keep supporting each other with these poor examples of song writing, poetry, writing in general, etc. You really don't learn much of anything because they attempt to brow beat you into following these subpar versions of theirs.

I mean most people know what a haiku poem is. It is one of the "go-tos" when starting poetry. Most of these people on this forum, however, think a haiku is about people when a haiku is about nature. And kindly just don't ask me about their ideas of poetry - I have won poetry awards - and well most of their "examples" is like someone spewed vomit onto a page. Disjointed ramblings really that wouldn't even pass as free verse poetry.

I have been on this forum for a while. Really out of sheer boredom. And amusement. I do, after all, get a kick out of those with the larger number of posts who they think they have something of value to tell you. Shame how their mothers never once told them it is quality and not quantity that counts in this world. I won't, after all, bore you with the names of mods and other high-post members on that forum who seem to be incapable of comprehending basic English and go off on some utterly worthless tangent of theirs. One that that typically has nothing to do with the subject in question.

That is of course not including how a number of this high and mighty big mouthed multi-posters are rude. There's one mod there that is an "utter genius"(sarcasm) and another one who is more useless than a sack of rotten potatoes.

My suggestion - find a literature course or a writing group around you and join that. You'd be far better off than wasting time here.

A Home for Facilitation of Writing

I've been a member for 10 years, and the only thing I can say is that the forum is the greatest Writing forum on the web. I started when I was 13, and have only found positive reinforcement, awesome challenges, and the greatest of writers to correspond with.

I would recommend WritingForums.com to everyone with an interest in writing, whether professional or hobbyist. It raised me from being a kid with an interest in writing to an author with dreams of large publishing.I'm active daily, as are many of the members on the site.

Times have changed...

Wow, I stumbled upon this and was really surprised as I've been a member since May 2014 and the site I am a member of doesn't sound like this at all. Then I realized there is no, Robert running the show. So I asked around and found out that it is under new ownership/management since then.

I am a relatively new writer(started pursuing in 2014) and I joined about 5 different writing forums at the same time with one goal: get feedback on my writing!

I also did a quick post in the intro boards of several of them. I got an almost immediate response at writingforums.com.

An entire thread of posts from other members. It was amazing. I also got great feedback on posts of my first attempt at a romance story, even though romance was not the genre of most of the writers there. It was enough to keep me around, that's for sure. I try my best to give as many critiques back as I can now. Love it there! Highly recommend it.

A place for serious writers to avoid

This site can be very deceiving. It looks great, there seems to be a lot of discussion on many topics.

But if you visit it often enough, you're bound to cross paths with the site administrator, British-based poet Robert Staniford. As administrator, he calls himself "Baron, " if that gives you any clue.

Stanford is a humourless and aggressive self-promoter. He owns the site, is editor of something called Mobley Press and plays a key role in a self-publishing venture called Beatrice Benn Books. One suspects that his real reason for taking over the site is to troll for prospects for his various sidelines.

He bans promotion of author's works and author's sites, unless, of course, they go through his businesses and pay him accordingly.

If he ever gets booted out, the site could perhaps live up to its potential.

For the starving egomaniac, not starving writer.

All a writer needs to do is type "Writing" into a search engine to find page

upon page of sites dedicated to the craft. With so many sites to choose from,

which site proves the best? Writingforums.com seems to be the most popular of

the bunch, but does that truly mean it's going to be the best? This all depends

entirely on what the writer hopes to achieve, of course. Writingforums boasts a

vibrantly active community of writers, readers, editors, and wannabes. The

navigation is simple, separating topics into sections for critique, discussion,

and resource. However, it's the critique section that shows the most promise to

the new member - critiques are generally well thought out and helpful, mixing

advice from seasoned professionals as well as writer's of all skill levels.

If a

writer needs only an outlet for his creativity, or a forum that will help see

faults otherwise indiscernible to the writer's own eye, then Writingforums seems

the ideal candidate among the plethora of others. Unfortunately, the critique

section is about the only saving grace for Writingforums. General

writing-related topics are often filled with condescension and lambasting. A

writer with an opinion contrary to the veteran community is widely discouraged,

much so that moderators are extremely lenient on older members whom clearly have

no restraints on conduct and disrespect. Even the moderators get involved in

heated arguments from time to time, resorting to ad hominem attacks which

clearly comprise their role as moderator. Moderators choose to take the position

of the more seasoned members when settling a debate, and rarely do they try to

curb the slew of lewd insults, profanity and abuse from the older members. In

fact, there's little the moderators actually do on the forum besides abuse their

misused power. Writingforums is an egocentric power trip for those that often

feel the impact of their rant-fused blogs turning sour on them.

They starve for

a new outlet for their repressed frustration, often at the expense of newer,

younger writers. Too often a young writer is attacked by a seasoned professional

and discouraged from ever posting again. Writingforums is without a doubt, a

private club, the equivalent of an elite prep school clique reserved only for

members who endure a vicious hazing period that doesn't seem to fall short on

humiliation.

If you're just looking for a place to workshop, then you would do

worse than choose Writingforums. If however, you're looking for a medium for

intelligent discussion and Q&A, Writingforums may very well convince you

that the literary community is filled to the brim with pompous snobs.
