Knowing MTDC resorts belong to Government, I did not expect much from these resorts, however its the location because of which I had to book this place during our last trip to Ganpatipule.
I have stayed here on two occasions, once a few years back in the Konkani huts and the next, recently in their AC deluxe rooms. During our last trip, they mentioned the entire area where they had Konkani huts is being renovated.
Location:This has been the USP of all MTDC resorts, almost all their resorts are at an exotic location. With this one being no different - is right on the beach. While previously Konkani huts offered a much better proximity to the beach and a better sea-view, the other cottages, deluxe rooms are a bit away from the beach.
Rooms/Ambiance: With no konkani huts option, this time we were left with AC/Non-AC deluxe rooms. We booked an AC deluxe room. The condition of the room was pathetic with paint peeling off and the ageing of the construction could be easily noticed, about to retire furniture, windows, doors, beds, sheets and everything else looked - just waiting to give way.
Rooms are equipped with basic needs Bed, AC, wardrobe and washroom, telephone. No wi-fi, kettle, and other amenities like hair dryer etc. They smelled murky and an air freshener had to be used.
Surrounding is nice, they have developed the property and kept it clean.
Restaurant/Bar: The resort has its own restaurant, which was fully packed and we had to wait for long to get a table (may be it was crowded because of the Ganesh Sankashti on that day). Food was average, since it was so crowded and everybody was in contention to get their orders delivered fast, we stayed happy with whatever minimum we could get. Nothing more to comment on the food, service - it was a messy affair.
I don't think, there was any room service.
Reservation: MTDC resorts can be booked only through their site or a direct check-in. C-in/c-out: 10 AM. Parking: Plenty within the resort premises.
Price: Exorbitant - only because of the shabby state their rooms are in. We paid 3000 for a night. Breakfast is included in the room price.
AC/Power problems: We booked an AC room, especially because of the summer season, but soon after we checked in the AC stopped working. When we contacted reception, they said someone would be sent to check the same. After waiting for some time, I decided to walk to their front-desk (which, BTW is quite a walk from the room). At the reception, I was told there is load-shedding in Ganpatipule, which came to me as a shock and I was furious that the hotel is taking customer bookings for AC rooms while they are aware of this problem. When I made some noise, they asked me to speak to the resort manager. After listening to me, he called in someone and asked to start the generator. I am not sure, when they had the facility why did they trouble the guests.
Overall, a waste of money! It's best to avoid this place, it's a below-average hotel, with location being the only plus.
