I would like to bring to the notice of the General Public and the Esteemed Customers of Kumudhini Silks, Cunningham Road about a horrifying incident that happened to me with the Owner of the Store.
In the recent past, I visited Kumudhini Silks to purchase a Saree with a budget of Rs. 15, 000/-. Despite a thorough search I couldn’t find a Saree suiting my choice and budget. As I was about to leave the Store, the Owner spoke to me and in spite of lack of my interest, she forced me to sit down to look at some more sarees. Using her super marketing and persuasive skills she managed to convince me to agree to buy a saree which was quoted at Rs. 26, 000/- which was way above my budget. She was continuously pestering me to buy the saree and was seemingly irritated because I was not agreeing to buy the costly saree.
Finally, after much persuasion and my continued reluctance, she settled the price of the saree at Rs. 18, 000/-. When I continued to hold my ground saying that my budget was Rs. 15, 000/- only she finalized the price at Rs. 17, 000/-. During this entire period of negotiation, the choice of her words and attitude towards me was very condescending which was far from the Sales etiquette. I remained calm and composed, at the same time conveying to her that I would look for a saree suiting my choice and budget in a different store. She literally forced and coaxed me to buy the saree without giving up on me as she didn’t want to be seen as failing to sell me the saree.
At last, I completed the payment procedure and walked out of the store with the saree. As I stepped out of the store I recollected her rude behaviour and choice of words that hurt me deeply. I felt that I wouldn’t be happy wearing this saree as it would remind me of the experience with this Owner for the rest of my life. Immediately I went back to the store to express my feelings and return the saree. When I met the Owner to express my desire to return the saree, the treatment she meted out to me was totally astonishing.
She pulled the saree from my hands and placed it in front of the photos of Gods as if praying for my well-being. Suddenly she dragged me to the exit door and shouted at me to get out of her store! I almost tripped and lost my balance. I called up my sister to pick me up from her store as I was not sure I could go home on my own after being hurt so much by another woman.
I have decided never ever to enter Kumudhini Silks in my lifetime. I gave away the saree to a distant relative as I didn’t want to hold on to those bad memories. What was astonishing to me was that during our negotiation she was continuously telling me that lots of Gowdas were her customers and those women would shop in her store with the ill gotten money of their husbands. According to her, all Gowdas are corrupt and don’t have taste in sarees.
Friends, when I shared my experience with a few of my relatives they told me that she is generally rude with most of her customers and many of them don’t go back to her store again. This Woman is an insult to womanhood as she treats others with contempt as she feels that she is born with a Golden Spoon while the rest of us are beggars privileged to buy sarees from her divine store. Please do think about my experience before going to Kumudhini Silks.
