God's Own Country the title itself say's the beauty of Kerala and the people. Kottayam is one of the best places to visit in

India.  Kottayam has some magnificent places to visit for religious sites as well as natural scenery and for educational

purpose.  there is famous temple named Mahadeva temple and many famous churches are there which gives pleasant

atmosphere. There are Several places to visit suck as Vagaman which is full of hills and the climate itself gives the bliss in

all our faces. and the next one is Tomb of Saint Alphonsa is also the next tourist spot as well as the church.

There are so many lakes and and boat safaris to enjoy and the most famous place in Kottayam is KUMARAKOM.

In Kumarakom there are so many restaurants which provided home based food . The Bird Santuray is also big attarction

in Kottayam.

For Accommodation there are several hotels and lodges in and around Kottayam junction and also Kumarakom

Junction which starts from Low Budget to High Budget.

Safety is the most important one and also in every area there will be patrol police which gives high security to tourist

people.

For travel we can take bus, train and also near by 100 km there is Cochin international airport which helps to provide

more useful.

but one thing I could like to say thr will be no bus after a certain time. because all the bus will go their shed. so make

use of buses according to its running time.

KOTTAYAM is one of the best places I have visited in India and is the heart of Kerala. It is a district of one of the most beautiful state of India which is Kerala and KOTTAYAM has lots of things and places to offer to the locals as well as visitors.

KOTTAYAM has some magnificent places to visit for religious sites as well as natural scenery and for educational sites as well. You can find Mahadev temple which is a must visit place in KOTTAYAM and there are many churches as well to look.

The best thing which KOTTAYAM is remembered to me is because of boat tours and boat races. These boat races was just marvelous and we have also visited bird sentury which is again a place to visit at any cost.

So if you are planning to visit South then you should also try to visit KOTTAYAM for its magnificent view.

Kottayam is a district of Kerala, India.

To access Kottayam travel to the nearest airport( Cochin Airport) or train station and then go by bus or hire a taxi to reach your destination.

There are places for sightseeing here which are worth a visit, such as Vogamon, Vaikom Mahadev Temple, Illikal Kallu,

Tomb of Saint Alphonsa, there are boat tours as well which are a fun addition to your visit.

You can find quite many hotels for accommodation from low cost to moderate to the ones on high end on cost.

Its a beautiful place and can be said to be safe camparatively.

A beautiful town in kerala
Sep 13, 2016 09:39 AM 3141 Views (via Android App)

Kottayam is located at the western ghat and this beautiful place is popularly known to tourists. Actually besides being a tourist spot Kottayam is a trading centre. During our tour to kerala we planned for 2 nights stay at Kottayam. We stayed in Windsor castle in kottayam. From there they had arranged for us to visit nearby places. Here is a list of places

St Mary church is situated in cheriyappally . Very beautiful church which contains excuisite murals and paintings of biblical and non biblical themes.

Bharananganam isa church which contains the remains of sister Alphonso. Daily more than 100 people are coming here and it is believed that this is one of the pilgrimage center of Kerala.

Erumeli located in the banks of manimala river. Its also a important pilgrimage center for hindus and muslims.

Kumarakom bird sanctuary is another beautiful place to visit and its 10kms from our stay in hotel. But we madeit point to visit the sanctuary. Its a ideal place for backwaters cruises organised by kerala tourism. Spread over 14 acres of lush greenary and blue waters. We can experience here many beautiful birds like water ducks cuckoos, and siberian storks which spend summer here.

Thirunakkari siva temple built in kerala style of architecture. Its having beautiful paintings on its wall.

Best time to visit is during October to April. Kottayam is connected by rail and roads with all major cities. Nearest airport is at kochi . There are plentiful good resort and hotels. So staying there and experience a nice place.

BEAUTY LIES IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER
Sep 02, 2002 09:03 AM 4291 Views

This part of India is heavenly because of the natural beauty in the form of beaches and extraordinare surroundings. I like it's cleanliness and the vast shoreline which can be seen. I have seen many beaches including Goa and in England but this has no comparison. Of course there are certain bad spots around this beach which need cleanliness but I think that around all good beaches there are some bad spots. The people are warm and affectionate which I think is a very plus point so that whoever wants to visit with family can feel assured of negative crime rate in and around. The climate and the atmosphere is superb so I think all people who face severe hot weather should go to this place for a major change in their hot lives.

Gorgeous Place

In the past, Kottayam was the seat first of the Munjunad, This fact of royal history is echoed in the town's name, which is derived from the Malayalam word `kottayakam’, which means the hold of a fort.

Kottayam, among the state's more mountainous districts, provides some of Kerala's finest natural sceneries, sandwiched as it is between serene palm-fringed backwaters on the west and the Western Ghats on the east. Much of this beauty is laid out in all its glory along the road which winds from Kottayam to the Periyar (/periyaaR/) Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady through plantations of rubber, tea, coffee, and pepper.

Kottayam is also an important commercial center, thanks to its strength as a producer of cash crops. Most of India's natural rubber originates from the well-kept plantations of Kottayam, also home to the Rubber Board, one of the country's primary commodity boards.

Ayyampara 43 km from Kottayam, is a little-known scenic spot of rocky plains where a 100-acre area of flat rock makes a natural granite stadium to enjoy the sunset and the view of the town below. It is a good base for trekking expeditions.

The town of Bharananganam is an important Christian pilgrimage center as the site of the internment of Sister Alphonsa (1916 - '46) in a chapel next to the St. Mary's Church. This millennium-old church features an attractive grotto of Virgin Mary.

A Hindu pilgrimage center, Ettumanoor 13 km away, is famous for its legendary 16th c. Shiva temple, a specimen of Kerala's indigenous style of temple architecture, incorporating clear-cut wood carvings and murals, including an exceptionally striking one of Shiva as Nataraja trampling underfoot the spirit of evil represented by a demon. The annual 10-day festival of the temple occurs in February/March.

A small village 12-km west of Kottayam town, on the banks of the Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom is bird sanctuary known for local varieties of waterfowl, cuckoo, and water ducks, as well as for migrating Siberian storks. Within the 101 acres of beautifully wooded grounds is the Kumarakom Tourist Complex, built around the 50-year old `Baker's Mansion', formerly a small and pretty hotel run by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation, but now redone in grander style by Taj Kerala Resorts Ltd. Boats are available for cruises on the backwaters.

An important Syrian Christian center, the town of Mannanam 8 km from Kottayam, contains the St. Joseph's Monastery, associated with the name of Fr. Kuriakose Elias of Chavara (1805 - 1871), one of the saintly figures of the Syrian Catholic Church of Kerala. Another renowned institution here is the St. Joseph's Press. Established in 1844, this is one of the oldest printing presses in Kerala. It printed the Nasrani Deepika (/nasRaaNi dheepika/), one of Kerala's oldest newspapers.

Vaikom 40 km from Kottayam, is famed for the Shiva temple which, according to legend, was constructed by Parasurama, the mythical creator of Kerala.
