King's Cliff - The must visit and live hotel
Dec 28, 2009 07:12 PM 2222 Views

I visited this hotel in 1st week of August 2007 after marriage. This is the

excellent hotel with excellent hospitality, food, maintenance and quick service. Don’t even give another thought and book it if it is already on your shortlist.

The only minor issue is that it is bit away from Ooty main bus depot. Auto driver charged Rs. 80 to drop at this hotel from Ooty main bus depot. But they will arrange a cab(Indica, Tavera) for you with local tour operators so this does not come as issue. The roads in and around Ooty are not very good. This hotel is near to Monarch hotel owned by Mithun da.

A good hotel with great Staff but

I came to know about Kings Cliff from one of my friend. When I saw the hotel in the website, I liked it and decided to stay there.

I stayed at the hotel on 2nd and 3rd Oct 2008.

When we reached the hotel, we were greeted by Mr Vijay ( I guess he is the manager). Our luggages were brought to our room. The whole place gives you a rustic feel with its colonial decor. My wife and I both love these kind of place. We had booked the luxury rooms and stayed in Windsor (thats the name of the room). The room was good with a fireplace. But the windows didn't close properly because of which it was very cold inside the room at night. Hotel provides some complementary firewood everyday. If you need more, you can purchase from the hotel. But the thing that we didn't like is the fact that you will have to pay if you need room heaters. (especially when the room was so cold because of the gap in the windows)...

When we reached there the TV was not working. On asking we were told that there is a complete blackout for whole ooty. Not sure how far that was true. But when the reception did come back it was extremely poor quality.

This room has a big attached bathroom with a bath tub. As such the bathroom was nice. But there was some problem with plumbing because of which we couldn't get to set the water to the right temperature. Either hot water or cold water came through the taps. Hence could not use the shower. Also the bathroom was very cold.

Then we went for the dinner at the glass house. Kingscliff doesn't keep alcohol, but if you carry your own, they will serve. I carried my own wine, which the waiter served us happily. We had a mixed experience about the food. My wife liked whatever she had ordered a lot, where as my food was just ok.

We were greatly impressed by the hospitality of the staff.

The breakfast was again very basic with limited options. There were some continental options and very few indian options.

They have a excellent garden where you can just sit and Njoy the beauty of the place around you. This hotel is located at a very secluded place.

The hotel management was extremely professional in their approach. My friend who had also booked with me could not travel at the last minute. But he had already paid an advance amount to the hotel which was non-refundable if cancelled before less than 48 hours. But the hotel promised that if the room which was booked for my friend gets occupied, then they will refund the money completely. They DID refunded the full amount to my friend.

Overall I liked the hotel and the management..The room needs some improvement.

I feel they should serve buffet for lunch and dinner ( I don't mind if they do it after getting consents from the inhouse guests  as this is a small place)...

I will definitely stay here again given a chance. But this time I may chose to stay in some other propery of littlearth..
