Java: Complete Reference - Herbert Schildt Reviews

Kolkata India
Not for Beginners.
Jan 16, 2018 08:46 PM (via Android App)

This book is for those who know about this language. But unfortunately this is not well fit.

this book contains info about higher topics at very beginning. youll always have an unanswered question related with this book.

this book has multiple aspects. Firstly this book will come as good, but its half explained topics will put you in trouble. I dont know if they say this book is for beginners then whats the need to put complex topics at top.

Some cases like over ride methods will also put you in trouble.

some where this book is back dated also. when I started it was java JDK 7 its JDK 9 is updated but still it follows JDK 6 7. that is really troublesome.

ill say stay away. better choose any other way to learn

Aug 16, 2017 10:45 AM (via Mobile)

After completing my first year there's a subject called java in front of us this book is actually referred by our teacher and college syllabus.

After buying that book I started to read and write the programs in java as said complete reference this book is for those who are either beginner or at intermidiate level. This book pretty nice wording and examples to get in java programming easily and covers different aspects of programming. Tutorials are easy to understand of course if you did cleared your object oriented concepts.

Book contain beginning and then move forward to descision making, web, applets, servlets, etc.

And also you can get PDF version of it whenever you want.

Jump from C++ to Java or Deep Java
May 28, 2017 07:57 AM (via Android App)

After completing my C+ syllabus my teacher said me to learn Java. I wandered here and there online , to my friends but none thaught me the basics of language, everyone was giving me long examples. My friend Shaibaazz gave his Old Java: Complete referenece book to me. This book explains what actually Java language is. It starts by explaining Java syntax then teaches at least 25+ Java packages. It also has a lesson that teaches how to migrate from C+ to Java. At last it gives you programming task and hands on project. A must have book for any Java developer and as far to me it will help me throughout my life.

Java-An essence of programming
Jan 11, 2017 02:15 PM

Java is the best programming book for the beginners. By going through this book, I've learnt many new things which I wasn't being to learn in college or through any classes. Now I can code easily. It has a great readability according English level and all the concepts are discussed in depth like a story. So it's like a story reading when we are learning Java through this book and I would recommend to all my friends once to read it.

Not for the freshers in the school of Programming.
Sep 28, 2016 07:38 PM

I bought this book when I was familiar with C/C+ a& Object Oriented Programming and wanted to learn to program in Java. After reading a few chapters I felt that this book is not what I needed. This is a reference book in which all the features of Java are written sequentially in detail with little or no emphasis on their usage in real world scenarios.

So my advice is if you have a working internet connection at your disposal then you don't need this book. For basic familiarity in Java watch some youtube videos or Java introduction given in some websites. Also searching Java reference on Google is far easier than searching through this book.

Only if you are a Java programmer who doesn't have internet can have this book as a reference.

Therefore you should avoid this book if-

1) You are new to programming

2) You are new to Java and have Internet

3) You are new to Java and don't have internet

4) You are a Java Developer and have Internet

Also also this book is so boring & lengthy that you won't feel like reading more after 5-6 Chapters.

If you still wanna purchase this book, I would recommend to search for a pdf version on google, skim through it for a while and then if you still wanna buy, then be my guest.

I will welcome you:)

Jul 26, 2016 05:54 PM

I am very happy to review this book as this is one of the best books available in the market to teach java in simple and genuine way. This book is published by Tata McGraw Hill Education, which happens to be the best publisher in my point of view.

Freshers in Java, who are looking for a good book to start with must check out this one. It will give you guys the basic knowledge of Java and after practicing its programs, I am sure you will find yourself in whole new other level of programming.

Each and every topic is covered thoroughly in this book with the help of simple examples and pograms.

As per my concern, I myself being benefited by this book. I am referring its latest edition(9th Edition). Everyday, I practice my programs and search for errors(if any) from this book.

The author has done a great deal writing this book in a very simple manner which is very user-friendly and understandable. I will definitely recommend this book to everyone from freshers to professionals.

Java The Complete Reference book is perhaps the good read for beginners, given its crisp and detailed explanations of basic JAVA concepts.

The book will help you a lot in diving the vast ocean of JAVA and will give a strong base over the language to help you in learning further.I am not saying that this is the best book for java but it is very useful.if you really want to be a good java programmer and you are a beginner then I will recommend JAVA HEAD FIRST, which is very good book and you will not feel bored when you read it

A complete waste of money
Feb 13, 2016 02:14 PM

I am an IT student in a premier Indian Engineering Institute and I purchased this book for our course in Object Oriented Methodology(or Java). I found this book an utter waste of my time and money. You don't need this book for studying java if you have  a proper internet at your disposal.

This book does not present ideas in a flow rather it just presents wide variety of features which are there in java. This book is so huge and nobody can finish it completely in their lifetime if you have other important things to work on.
