Sony CCD-TRV66

I bought this model about 2 years ago for about US $ 735 and it is still going strong ! Now the prices have come down. When I bought it , I got few other things thrown in with it. This model is very handy as it is (1) not heavy- you can hold the camera up for long without tiring your arms, which is very important when you plan to shoot for long. (2) It is an 8mm. format cassette - this cassette is small and the picture quality is excellent , better than a usual VHS format.(3)the Optical zoom is 22 x which is what counts even more than Digital Zoom, as Optical zoom zooms in without any distortion or dots unlike Digital Zoom. (4) there is a built in LCD Display which is very useful when you have to adjust colors while shooting, zooming in a person from a crowd using his clothes colour as an identity, gives rest to your eyes tired of staring through the viewfinder, helps you to shoot a subject in the middle of a crowd, holding your camera overhead.(5) it is easy to transform the recording into a normal VHS format Video cassette.
