ASK NOT OF OTHERS............... (A POEM)
Ask not of others (if you must)
Any more than you can give them!
If you think you have a right,
Have respect for others’ rights too!
Most troubles spring from your ego
And a feeling you are the salt of the Earth;
Hence eligible to life's crown jewels!
If you must ease your vexing problems,
First assist those who need your aid.
The world is full of greedy grabbers,
Misusing positions to swindle the hapless!
Do-gooders are helplessly apathetic
For there are things that they can do
And things that transcend the human ken.
This is the world as we have seen and known;
Not very fair to the righteous and the just!
Knowing this is the beginning of wisdom.
Set your own lands and affairs in order;
You need not aim for any outright victory.
“Humankind cannot bear much reality”
None has yet won a battle save of the heart!
