Apnaloan's process was a breeze
Nov 18, 2007 02:12 AM 3714 Views

Many of us hate those calls for loans and credit cards. But when we're actually looking for it, there is no real avenue to go to. I searched through individual bank sites, etc but it was quite cumbersome. Some of the banks wouldn't even respond after I filled up their "Apply" form.

Apnaloan was different. I filled up their form last week and got a call from them within 10 minutes. This verification call was followed up by calls from different bank agents and the process was really smooth.

I also found a lot of useful information about loan rates, etc on their website. Things like all the documents that you require and the negotiation tips were quite usefule. Every bank says they require minimum documentation, but then when you actually go to take a loan, they want hundreds of documents they never tell you about initially. The articles on apnaloan really helped me and I not only had the documentation in place but also knew what surprises and fine print to look out for.

I also found the bank rates mentioned on their site quite accurate and it is one of the main thing that's helping me negotiate well with the banks.

I feel their site design looks quite dated, but the information there was accurate and extremely useful to someone like me who knows(or atleast knew) very little of the loan procedures.

I feel they're a great alternative to directly approaching banks. I would use them again.

Useless and Arrogant Apnaloan
Aug 17, 2005 09:41 AM 6769 Views

Hi All!

First of all apnalon is not loan issuing bank. It is just intermediatory for other banks.

I recently had a very bad experience with apnaloan and icici bank.

I had purchased a land in Nasik by paying cash and I wanted a loan on same. I approached standard chartered bank for same but the saleperson said that they don't have branch in Nasik so he gave a cell number of his friend who can help. I called this guy - (Shailesh). He was from apnaloan. But he posed as if he is employee of ICICI Bank. (and all this guys handling icici accounts will tell same). So I applied for a loan of 3 lakhs assuming that he is from ICICI. He promised me out of 3 lakhs that I can take loan of even 2 lakhs also. Later when I approached this person Sahilesh had already left apnaloan and new guy Amol came in picture. They refused to give me 2 lakh loan so I agreed on taking 2.5 lakhs. But then they (icici bank ) made new demand that you should have search report. I thought I better take a personal loan so I got back my documents from apnaloan. But I could not take personal loan for some reason and approached apanaloan again. I spent almost Rs 1500 on search report and gave it to apanloan. Saleman said that he will get sanctioned the amount in 15 days. (15th April). But for 2 months there was not call from him. When I used to call he will tell that documents are under process. Then after two months they started making fresh demands. Now they wanted index 2 document of land of previous agreement between seller and person from whom he bought land. I couldn't get it as seller had lost it. So apnaloan came with solution that both me and seller should make affidavit that document is lost. Salesman even assisted me in making the fake signatures on affidavit of seller as he was living in Nasik. Now they wanted affidavit for my wife's signature , which I refused to give as loan was getting expensive. They had some solution for this. Then finally came the turn of disbursal of loan. Then icici realised that as it was cash transaction they can't pay me but instead to seller. He refused to accept the cheque for tax purposes. Now it's a deadlock. Salesman blames me that I could not pursuade the seller to accept the cheque.

When I asked apnaloan to pay back my expenses (I spend almost 4000 on all this) the salesman used abusive language. He said that they didn't come to me but I had come to them for loan. It's tragic. My loan is under process for almost 8 months now. And meanwhile they have hiked interest rates by .75 % to 8.50%.

Personal loan would definitely be cheaper compared to all such hassles. I wanted to invest in Fidelity mutual fund with this money. But it's IPO date expired long back on 20th April.

This people won't clear all the things required at start and keep making new demands.

I will suggest all never go with such middlemen like apnaloan. You never get to talk to bank people. You can't bargain. You can't put your points. Apnaloan becomes just passes their message. (I think they forgot to put 'Not' in their slogan 'We are on your side')

And never ever go to icici bank. Approach banks like HDFC, State bank, IDBI bank etc.

ICICI bank is the biggest cheater in India.

Apnaloan.com - Really Pathetic Service
Nov 29, 2004 01:26 PM 10541 Views

I had the bad experience to deal with Apnaloan.com - in Mumbai as well as Delhi. In Mumbai, they are somewhat better but Delhi people are really bad and provide pathetic service which seems to be more of a harassment rather than Service!

First of all I will give you an insight into what they are. They are basically DSAs(Direct Selling Agents) of all the major private sector banks. So when a person goes to them, it seems that they have the best of knowledge and best of deals.

On the contrary, their people are most ill informed and there exists a big communication gap between their personnel even within the same department. This leads to big delays to the customer. This is even admitted by their own people.

I had got a Credit Card from them in Mumbai. When you apply for Credit Cards through them, they apply for you simultaneously in 3 banks. But nobody knows why 2 of them doesn't get approved, while if you go with those banks directly, it gets approved.

In Delhi, I applied for Home loan from ICICI HFC Ltd through them. Due to harassment at their hands, I had to withdraw my files from them as well as ICICI as they wouldn't deal with me directly, and make a new start with ICICI leading to inordinate delays and higher rate of interest.

Their staff was most ill informed as can be. They even didn't know their requirement papers. And when my Sanction letter was issued by ICICI, they called me to inform the same. Even after 7 days, Apnaloan people didn't know that my sanction letter is lying with them!

If you are getting bored and want to hit hammer on your foot, don't do that, that will hurt physically, instead go to Apnaloan.com

Reply to Mr. Prayag Pal's review
Mar 25, 2004 04:01 PM 5082 Views

(As the remark is long, submitting it as a new review)

Dear all,

As I work for Apnaloan, let me give our clarifications related to the comments put by Mr. Prayag Pal.

(First please let us appreciate the excellent platform created by mouthshut.com so that consumers can share their views about a product or service. And it also surely helps a customer-focused company like Apnaloan to get customer insight on a real time basis.)

I am giving you our feedback after investigation on our side.

As Mr. Pal has rightly described, and our data records confirm, he has been our registered customer since August 2001. And that he did choose to apply for a credit card through us some 2 years back.

And as he has clearly described in great detail, he did not face any major issues with Apnaloan till the complete processing of the application (applying on online; getting contacted by the friendly service executive; submission to the bank; etc.) by us.

But in the end, very unfortunately, he got wrongly billed by ABN Amro for the outlook magazine subscription. Mr. Pal had interacted with our net-based service team (on email) and after checking out our records, we found that we have responded to him in time on his queries. We could not find any mis-hap at our end (We could not check the physical records, though we keep a photocopy of application for a few months to use in case of such incidences. But as this case was checked late, the form had already been shredded). We do contact banks for such clarification, but, although we are the originator of the application, banks do not take such requests from somebody other than the customer, to avoid any chance of security breach.

We had tried to clarify this to Mr. Pal with replies to all his communications to us from various channels.

His own comment says that, primarily, his issue was with the bank. Although being a distributor on the said esteemed bank's products, our scope for action is limited. Especially about an approved customer, bank would be (and rightly so) very hesitant to deal with a third party.

Apnaloan's is a responsible company with its shareholders including ING Vysya bank, Rediff, FMO, SIDBI Venture and Jumpstartup Ventures. Our privacy policy is available on the site and is followed in letter and spirit.

We thank once again Mr. Pal for his feedback. He remains a valuable customer for us and we sincerely hope to service him better in future, if given an opportunity to do so.

Once again we appreciate the mouthshut platform which gives an opportunity to companies, such as Apnaloan which care about their consumers, to realise the challenges in the industry we are working in and to continuously improve our control mechanism to mitigate probability on such incidences.

Regards,

Manish Shah

I think these guys are there for the heck of it. Gives them some joy to come around making you fill forms. Nothing comes out of it but they bug the hell out of you and even send a rep to wher you are at the moment just so that they can get their forms filled.

I completed all my forms with them over 2 months ago and nothing has come out of it. Upon calling them they say they will call back in 10 minutes and nothing happens. Master spammers they are, you will keep receiving e-mails from them.

Their staff don't seem literate and know nothing about their biz.

Apnaloan Apun Ke Liye Nahi !!
Jan 13, 2004 12:41 AM 5060 Views

Hi Folks,

It's been a long time (almost a yr and half) since I had burnt my hands with doing some transaction using ApnaLoan. I used to follow this site to keep track of different financial offers that kept on dropping in.

One of those days, ABN AMRO Bank was running a Promo to offer Free Credit Card called 'Freedom Card'. Basically, they were offering a Credit Card with no service charges for the first year. By that time, I was already getting pissed with lowering service levels in Std Chartered Bank and Citibank was little nosy about their services, so it was time to find another bank that could prove their choices. I filled the online form to apply for the card. In two days time I had an agent from ApnaLoan at my office ready with the forms to fill out and take the necessary papers. The friendly guy made me sign in few places in the form and taken my salary slip. I insisted to see the rest of the form and ensured that nothing that I don't want is selected or there's nothing that's hidden to my knowledge.

After a month/half I got a e-mail from ABN AMRO Stating that, my credit card has been shipped to me by mail. In few more hrs, I get another e-mail saying X amount of money was credited from my credit card. I just driven me Bonkers, I was wondering, even before the card reached me, how come there was credit balance on the card !!

By the time I got the card, in order to make calls to ABN AMRO, it was almost another week. ABN AMRO happens to have the worst telephone banking / web based (read e-mails) support system. After numerous calls, I got to know that, I was subscribed for 1 year subscription for ''OutLook'' magazine and that was billed to my card. It seems it was a option as part of the offer and I had opted in for this. I never understood, why should I get the same magazine which I read all the time at work and ofcourse when I specifically remember not opting for that.

After lot of communication with ApnaLoan (following lot of web based complaints lodged), they simply washed their hands off saying, we can't do anything, you must have opted for this, we can't help you with this. I got in touch with OutLook (once again via e-mail) and their account section people said, it's only ABN AMRO that can instruct a cancellation of subscription. And once talking to ABN AMRO about that, they said, I need to write a snail mail to their Delhi Office ('cause that's the only place where they exist in India) explaining the problem, and they would take necessary action.

In the meantime, I had informed ABN AMRO time and again that, I'm never gonna pay that money they thought I owed them. This whole process of follow up got dragged more than 6 months and ABN AMRO's automted system started to show my name as Credit Defaulter and bank's collection department Goons started coming to my house, my office for payback. It's not that the money was big, but by that time I was determined not to pay a single buck 'cause none of the stupid company's were co-operating with me. Eventually, I conferenced the collection fella with the bank call center guy and made him understand, why he must not show his face at my door again.

Eventually, after combined mails (with lotsa threats of bad publicity) to ApnaLoan & Outlook, someone from Outlook reverted back the amount to the credit card account and I got to make few more calls to the bank to revert back the interest piled over 6+ months.

Ever since, I've stayed away from ApnaLoan, however, it has come to my notice that, they have very bad Spamming Practices. I won't be surprised to see them selling the registered user database to third party without the users consent. As a whole, a site, that could change the way Indians handle money or financial offers online, has pissed me off to the extent that I'm forced to suggest that, for peace of mind, stay away from that site.

Apnaloan? Nay, Apna Headache. (Update: 13-2-2004)
Jan 09, 2004 05:59 PM 4613 Views

I applied for a leading Credit Card (CC) in mid-September. The sales-guy came outside my office and collected a xerox of my salary slip and made me sign all the forms. I got an email mentioning username and password which I could use to track my application. I was supposed to get the card within a month.

Two months down the line, my father had to undergo expensive treatment and I desperately needed the card to offset some of the expenses. I called Apnaloan and they said the application was under process. On further argument, they told me to track the card directly with the bank as it was beyond their control. Upon calling the bank, I was informed that the card was denied because of lack of proper documents. Obviously, the sales-guy had goofed up.

I called Apnaloan once again and they sent over another guy who suggested that I apply for multiple cards to improve my chances of approval. He also insisted on collecting original salary slips. I called after a week again only to find that the guy had disappeared from their office. They send me smart guy #3.

He collected all the documents again and application forms for 3 banks. Another password was issued which does not work.

The results of those applications are as follows.

  1. First Bank - ''What application, Sir? We never got any from Apnaloan!''

  2. Second Bank - ''Your application has been denied. No reasons provided''

  3. Third Bank - Provided me a card atleast. But the limit was only 12000.

I had a query regarding any hidden charges on the card and I called up apnaloan. The telecaller replied ''Darte kyon ho saab. Nahi bharne ka hain to mat bharo. Bank aapki jeb so nahi nikalega.''

I understand from my sources that the sales guys are paid a paltry sum for each form they fill. To earn a decent amount each month, they fill forms in bulk for each customer and send to the bank minus all the necessary documents.

Apnaloan makes money - customer waits for a miracle.

Feb 13, 2004- I received a call from Apnaloan. The CEO was browsing through the net and stumbled upon this review. The caller apologized for the problems caused, and promised to improve the service.

ApnaLoan a decent Experience
Jul 30, 2001 04:20 PM 4059 Views

I used apnaloan for two purposes. One trusting them to find me a good alternate deal for my home loan take over balance Transfer with options & two application for credit card.<

Filling in forms is a pain, unfortunately the nature of the business is such that you but cant avoid filling lengthy forms. Fortnutaley after u fill in information this common profile is used for all type of fiscal products & services that you may seek.

Having passed the first hurdle (the painful forms), the responses were prompt, accurate and courteous. The online chat personnel were a help allright & knew the business. Drawback was no round the clock operators.

The site lacks in UI & navigation, however the quality of interaction makes up for that big time.

just added

some folks on reading this wanted to know how the story unfolded further....well , my next stages of interactions are to be with HSBC & stanchart (gives me a reason to come back here & comment on those experiences)...i cant hold apnaloan responsible for that ... but what I saw of apnaloan & that helped me some is in the research and the ease of availing.... Guys who are seeking personal loans - check out the deals that they offer in barter for yr interests.. it sounds cool ....

The is as such a good one , the only problem is that their functioning is very slow , I had applied for a leading credit card through this site , the response came after 1 month , its already 20 days since I met their representative , and I have no information , whether my application is being processed or not.the rep. was helpful and he told me that u will get the card on the 21st day, but nothing materialized.
