Worst player ever
Dec 22, 2015 06:05 PM

Windows Media Player is the slowest media player. Moreover it crashes most time on loading videos.I hate WMP.even though microsoft have done the best efforts to correct or upgrade WMP they still failed. The Library looks like a mess also.It also doesn't play most video formats like flv, some mp4 also doesn't work.Only good thing are the User Interface is very sweet and also cd ripping is an extremely good feature. My advice go for some alternative players like vlc, gom.

Advantage

User interface is good

CD ripping is good

Disadvantage

Very slow

Not responding error happens most time

Library management is bad

Doesn't play most formats

Windows Media player is a really good application in Windows 7, 8, 9, 10. I personally have been using this player to play songs, videos and movies. I like the sound quality and clarity in speech when anything is played using Media player.

Media player has been long used by many consumers as they should continue to use it . Overall good quality in application so its a must have in all laptops and computers. And an very useful application as well.

Wmp is best default mediaplayer
Dec 20, 2015 03:14 PM

None other than windows media player which comes as default with windows Operating system is the best Media player when we compare to all other media players, Previous there are less options provided with these particular software but as far as the new updates are updated it is working fine.

I just can say windows media player is 1st followed by all other media players like vlc and real and so on.every one can work this software as it handy to work on and easy to work with it, who are looking to edit or cut the song they have to go with a different software where such option is available. As this software is a inbuilt or a default software no need to install so no need to worry about any virus attacks .

Waste of space
Dec 20, 2015 07:47 AM

Windows media player is the default media player present in the windows operating system. But using this one is waste of time and space. The player has lot of drawbacks using it is a bad idea.

The player supports only mp4 and some other few popular formats only remaining players will not play in the player.

Coming to the music formats it supports less formats and it has less sound quality and sound is not loud one compared to other players.

It does n't play the media files smoothly and strucks all the time.

The subtitle playing capability is not there and it is a big  setback to the player.Hd videos also not playing well in it and it is showing not responding when try to play those.

Instead use the vlc media player which is a good substitute to the windows media player.

Upgradation can make this better
Dec 16, 2015 12:07 PM

This is a media player which is provided by the Microsoft with its Windows operating system. The features of this media player is very limited, most of the file does not play with this media player.

This media player does not support subtitle track. But the picture quality and the audio quality is quite better than other media players. I use this only for audio player. Its good for audio but not good enough for the video. As this is a default media player of Windows so every Windows user knows about it very well. But I think this media player need huge upgradation.

An outdated non-responsive player
Dec 16, 2015 11:23 AM

Windows Media Player(WMP) is an audio and video player with library support. The latest version for Windows XP and Vista is WMP11 which was last updated in 2006. However, Windows 7 comes bundled with WMP12 which was updated more recently in 2011.

It claims to support many audio and video formats but falters terribly in its duties. It does not play the newer formats like FLAC and MKV. It also does not support subtitle playback. It shows, "Not responsing" error while trying to play 1080p content.

The player is a memory hog. It is slow to respond and causes frequent system hangs. The quality of playback is also poor compared to other players like KM or VLC player. The equalizer settings are ineffective in enhancing the aural experience.

The player is very poor in importing your playlist. It sort your file collection randomly without any order. It also make duplicate file entries in your mp3 library which can be a nuisance.

The one feature that works well on WMP is the CD audio ripping and burning feature. However, there are better standalone utilities that have better features with a lower footprint.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this crap-ware. It has too many bugs with no hopes of improvement(Note: Windows 8 onwards has stop supporting WMP installation). Do rate my review and let me know what you think. Cheers!

No media in windows media player......
Dec 08, 2015 06:54 PM

Very bad performance .

Even I get angry sometimes, when videos or musics not support. Microsoft must do something for this, update the windows media player.

Really you can't believe small size video can't play sometimes. Always gives a notification of "go to Web". That's why I dont use windows media player. Use KMP or VLC . They are better than this player.

Guys don't be panic when these things happens to you, just play it in another player and enjoy it.

But You don't uninstall it as may be sometime you can use it.

Don't use Windows Media Player
Dec 08, 2015 06:43 PM

Windows media player is a complete waste of time. It has no standard at all. The player takes a long time to load and also the quality of picture gets low. The sound quality is no good either. In Windows 10 Microsoft tried and failed to improve the quality of their media player.

Windows will surely come up with something in near future but for now I will recommend K M Player and V L C player to the ones who like to watch movies in good quality and sound.

Worst Experience with Windows Media Player !!
Dec 08, 2015 06:32 PM

Let me start wit a fact that every body is familiar with the software name Windows media player and the fact is that no body uses it, and another funny thing is that every have it silently kept on the PC or laptop, it is nothing but users cant un install the software as it comes default with the Windows operating systems. Windows media player is also termed as WMP.

Microsoft not at all cares about the Media Player, they very well know that the playback performance of Windows Media player is so pathetic, I don't know why they are rectifying the issues with proper updates and bug fixes.

This is the built in media player with the Microsoft windows operating systems, to play the video files and some other media files, but the crazy thing here is that Windows media player does not have much capability to play majority of the media files or video frmats available, so we have to install third part media players in order to have a good playback of videos and our favorite media files.

I have only used Microsoft Windows media player for a short period of time, I have not found anything good to be roshanbhaskar to say about the media player, I have lots of problems or disadvantages of Windows media player, Here I will try to quote down some main disadvantages of Windows media player.

Major Disadvantages of Windows Media Player;

@ Not supports majority of the Video file formats.

@ No supporting codec pack to fix the problem of nonsupporting of the video formats.

@ Picture quality is not at all good, even if we are playing a good and high quality video, Windows media plays plays it in a worst quality.

@ Majority of the Audio Formats are also not supported by windows media player.

@ Windows media player will not play a partially damaged CD, DVD or files, meanwhile other players will play the rest parts of the file which are not damaged, here WMP will not anything.

@ Windows Media player is very slow and lagging in streaming online videos even if we have good speed internet connection.

@ Play good quality Mp3 Files in very worst quality.

@ We cannot uninstall from the System.

@ They dont provide regular updates.

@ Only Basic equilizer settings

@ Automatically runs some music online services and wastes our data balance.

@ The playback volume is so pathetic.

@ In most cases the subtitle feature does not work.

VERDICT:

Windows media Player is just a media player by name, and this is the most de rated media player in the industry.

Overall Rating: 2/5

Thanks & Regards,

Shamil P.S

Windows Media Player is an absolute time waste
Dec 08, 2015 05:34 PM

As everyone have said earlier that Windows Media Player is only great for listening to music. Its not good for watching a video.

I never liked Windows media player. I love simple things as VLC. But Windows Media Player has no feature to like. It doesn't support even various video file extensions. Also 4k video files doesn't support in here.

It is just good for listening to music and if you have too much music in your computer then the media player becomes really slow.

Windows media player is not recommended even though it is being pre installed in your Windows Pc.

Only for music
Nov 06, 2015 05:43 PM

Guys, This is a default player in windows before windows 10. This player is good only for Music. not good for video. It can play good videos, but you cannot change the aspect ratio.

So there is black bars in top and down of videos. That is not looking good while watching videos. I hate it.You also will face a problem if you open and close multiple times.

From windows 7 to windows 10 you will face this bug. If you open the music player and close it immediately and open the next song,  Windows media player not open, instead it will show a  message;  Server is not responding

Good but not great!
Sep 04, 2015 02:55 PM

I used it because vlc media player does not have resume facility and it have but screen gets off while watching movies or long videos by unknowing reason, I think its a only drawback it have, apart from that issue it is good and most similar as vlc media player, if that drawback it dont have I think it is the bestest player over vlc media player because it have resume facility as vlc dont have it, means if you watch any movie or video on Windows Media Player and you gets interuppted by any reason that video or movie will start from exact that location, where you skips it, but it have one issue as I described above as vlc dont have this issue, so in my personal experience vlc is good than  Windows Media Player and I recommend vlc to everyone because it dont have screen off issue as sm player have it.

Windows media player is a default media player of windows operating system. When you installed any windows in

your system that time it will automatically get installed on your machine.Version can be anything like windows xp, vista, 2003, 2007 etc.

It supports MPEG 4, MP3, Dvd, WMV etc. files. It has stylish look, black in design and better to use, But not all files support this player.I am using it for songs and videos in mp4.

You can also play the audio or video which is inside CD's. You can get access your favourite artists and albums or any other music type.It is good and goood.

Windows Media Player - Oldeest media player
Jul 20, 2015 10:13 PM

Windows Media Player is oldest media player available today. It was released by Microsoft. This player is pre installed in Windows.

There are may version available, but I think 11 is the latest one. This player is not recommend at all. As there are many good options available like VLC player, why should any one use Windows Media Player.

Firstly not the all type of formats are supported in Windows Media Player. Next thing is as there are many shortcuts available in VLC, you can control it from keyboard itself, no such features available in Windows Media Player.

There is no separate codec file for VLC, but for Windows Media Player, you have to download codec file . All these constraints make it to lesser user friendly.

Today every one wants ease of use, which is not at all in the case of  Windows Media Player. Due to these reasons, I do not like this player & I do not recommend to upgrade it as in windows you don't need to install it, its already pre loaded, you just can upgrade it, which is not recommended.

Windows Media Player 11
May 08, 2009 05:02 PM

Windows Media player 11

WMP 11 is an inbuilt player that is available in Vista and XP (SP3).

* General factsSupport:

Software needs to be installed in a genuine version of windows XP or Vista. In vista and Windows XP SP3 this is the default player.

Supported formats:

WMV, DVD, AVI, MP3, ASF, MPEG, DVR-MS and musc CD playback.

Features:

Black design, stylish look, superb buttons adds comfort to users to use. Media library, a feature you can add music, photos, videos and make organized playback. No need to look over for files.just add the file and WMP will look after. There is an option to *normalize *volume too, when adding.

Supports playlists and plug-ins support.

Visualisations are reduced compared to WMP 10.But you can add the WMP10 Enery bliss visualization to add good looks.

Now playing:

Currently playing items are listed. Has Enhancements such as Graphic equiliser, SRS WOW effects, Speed settings, video settings, Album art support, cross fading and auto volume leveling.etc

Other options include Rip, Burn, device Synchncronize and media guide.Media guide is functional for users with internet. It displays tracks online for buyers.

You can Rip and burn to mp3 and wma formats.

Supports skins, users can find skins in internet and add them to the player.

My Review:

Till this day I use only media player to hear music and see videos. The only disadvantage I feel is that the supportive codecs are less , i.e, only few formats are supports. I use K-lite codecs packs ( Mega pack- Full install(lots of stuffs-with player) to support media player.I always integrate the codecs to my media player so as this is my default media player.

When comming to playback, the audio quality is best when compated to all other players (real, VLC, Media player classic, BS player, Ashampoo media player, Win amp, Jet audio, Aimp, Cool player, J.River Media player, KM player etc) Mine's is a simple Creative 2.0 speaker. All other players fail to give me my desired Bass effect.Only WMP 11 gives a good bass effect-when graphic equiliser and wow effects enabled.Jet audio gives good effects, but comparatively less than that of WMP.

Video playback is also excellent in WMP 11, till now I am able to play AXXO ripped movies in high quality audio/video.Its excellent to see movies.

I used to organize all my music files in media library, so I never search for files in my computer to search for the file and play.

Also this version supports to organise Photos and videos too-*like Media Center Edition.

Simple construction, so easy too use.The buttons are good looking and attractive moreover comfortable. That too the option Windowsmedia toolbar makes the player to me controlled from taskbar.

Everything has its positives and negatives. Comming to the negative things.....

Supportive codecs are low so you need a codecs pack to be enabling the format supports.

Single dvd can't be played. But a whole DVD will play !

Also you cant resize videos manually, Only fit to video/fit to player, zooming:50%, 100%, 200%, full screen.

Plugins support is also poor.Need more plugins

Moreover, this will install only in genuine Windows XP.

Annoying media guide, connects to internet at background, so reduces your browsing/download speeds. To prevent this you have to select Work offline - each time.Or can use XP antispy to prevent conecting WMP to internet.

So in my experiences, i have **never faced any major problem

such as hanging, crashing etc**.So I trust all these days.I dont know why people always go for other softwares for playback. Here I tell you some basic bitter experiences by me with players.

Real - Annoying adds - if connected to net, confusing interface

Ashampoo media player - poor audio support

VLC Player** - consumes more ram, must configure audio whether it is 2.0, 5.1, Mono, Stereo.etc

Winamp: Good player, once ! Now a days the player size is big, and drinks off my ram.But good support.

J.River Media center: Excellent! but Shareware !

KM player: beware when uninstalling, this completely removes all associated file formats, leaving you all media files unidentified.

The beta version is worst , crashed my whole system.

Confusing, highly technical controls above all drinks ram eventhough if we select Perfomance option in install.

Media player classic: Best to use, good control, ease to use, but poor audio and video effects.

Quicktime player: Good ram drinker, My computer hangs a lot

Mplayer: Open source, excellent but drinks all of your ram.My PC notified me "Running out of low virtual memory"

So over all this Windows Media Player 11 is the best.I recomend it to use it with K-lite codecs pack. Tweak with XP-Antispy, add plugins and visualisations and enjoy !

WMP7 - Sonic Boom, Visually Impaired
May 15, 2003 10:20 PM

Microsoft might be a giant when it comes to developing Operating Systems but that doesn’t mean that it always does the right things. Case in point being its Windows Media Player 7.0 (WMP) that comes as an upgrade to the 6.x version bundled with Windows 98 (FE & SE). Subsequent versions of Windows have come out with 8.x versions and now there’s even a beta version of 9.0 available for free download from its website. I’ll concentrate on Version 7 because that’s the one I’ve used the most on my PC.

1. Beauty or Beast?

The most heartening feature with V7 is that it comes as a two-in-one replacement for the erstwhile CD player and WMP 6.x. It therefore does the double job of playing audio and video files as well. Making useful applications that are aesthetic looking as well has never been a virtue with MS. What goes against WMP7 is its lavish interface. The main screen occupies three fourths of the desktop space when in the 800 X 600 resolution and more than exceeds the screen size when maximized in the 640 X 480 mode.

This compares rather poorly with Real One Player and more recently, Winamp, whose interfaces are comparatively smaller and don’t cramp up on desktop real estate space. On the looks department, WMP turns out to be the corpulent wife of an opulent “Seth”. There are various skins available for download, but without them, it’s a drab affair.

2. Sight & Sound

I was happier with its sonic capabilities than its pretentious optical potential. Let me explain. Simply for the quality of sound playback (in terms of clarity, tone and equalizer settings), I put it on a higher pedestal than Winamp. I’ve experimented with WMP and Winamp by playing songs and listening to both on desktop speakers as well as on BA headphones. While the effect on speakers (300W) is not too variable, the difference is more perceptible on the headphones. WMP comes up trump over Winamp and for that matter even over Real player here. The clarity and changes in equalizer settings are simply too good to be true.

As for the video feature, the less said about it, the better. Suffice to say that it just about passes the muster. Video CD’s that run very well on Xing MPEG Player stutter and splutter on WMP. The picture output is pathetic and there’s no such thing as clarity unless one has a high-end machine. This is probably because WMP is a major memory gobbler needing an average of 20-25MB whenever its run.

3. File Handling Capability & Other Utilities

WMP can handle Audio files, CD audio tracks, MIDI files, Movie files and Quicktime formats. The only thing it can’t handle is Real Player formats and quite understandably so since both are fierce competitors. Apart from that there are no concerns about its playback capabilities.

The “Media Guide” is a major joke. This feature is supposed to search for audio files on the Internet but it seldom does that. I give a search query, say, for a Shakira number and it throws up all results from Britney Spears to Madonna through Gwen Stefani but still no Shakira in sight. Quite simply, nothing to beat “Morpheus” on this front.

The “CD Audio” enables Encoding - the process of copying an audio file from an external source (like a CD) to the hard disk. Though this feature is present in WMP, the all-limiting restriction is that it can copy any kind of audio file format, BUT only as its own Windows Media Audio (WMA) format, which effectively implies that this format cannot be played on any other media player except itself. Considering that the MP3 format is so popular these days, this is a rather severe limitation.

The Media Library is a major development and takes the art of managing audio files on your PC to a totally new plane. It automatically scouts the hard disks for audio files and sorts them according to their artist, genre and music class. This is a great boon and obviates the need to pick and choose each and every file for playback. Take care not to include the “*.wav” files in the initial search or you’ll end up with a major headache later.

There’s one “Radio Tuner Feature” that’s supposed to connect to AM/FM radio stations around the world. I’ve tried using this about half a dozen times with the same result - “This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down”. End of story.

There’s also a “Portable Device” feature that allows recording/copying of songs onto pocket PCs and palm tops. Never tried this – so no wisdom to offer.

4. Other Minor Frills

The pre-installed skins are only four in number and their looks are worse than my universally acknowledged, pathetic dress sense. What’s worse is that these skins only result in squeezing WMP into a “compact mode” which is makes me wonder what’s there to “skin” about in the first place?

It also has some cool “Visualisations” which can be chosen from a pre-installed list and there’s also the provision to download new ones. However, I’m yet to figure a way of turning this off except for putting it in the compact mode. Secondly, there’s a small iconic button marked “Visualisation Properties” which is purely an adornment as it serves no particular function (or does it happen only on MY WMP?)

The “Help” section is fairly comprehensive, in that it covers all the crucial information on using the main features but nothing more. There are no examples, no tips, and even the help rendered is quite reticent in nature and that isn’t saying too much about it is actually capable of.

Thus Spake TiC

Microsoft’s idea of entering the relatively untapped “all-in-one media player” segment is laudable and some concessions can be made for the fact that this was one of the initial versions. The Beta of version 9 was out a few months ago (any idea if the actual release is out?) and though TiC didn’t try it out Himself, He got some very favourable feedback about it.

MS had already made quite a few changes when its version 8 was shipped early last year. A few bugs like those in “Radio Tuner” were rectified and there was also some improvement on the video file management front, though it’s still not what it is capable of being.

TiC was pretty satisfied with WMP7 and is almost on par with its peer (Real Player 8). With Winamp coming out with its own advanced video playback version recently, the battle for the best media player is hotting up. This kind of intense competition surely bodes well for the PC users whose media needs are ever increasing by the day. As for TiC, He’s hell bent on screwing up His PC again – this time by experimenting on the latest versions of Winamp, WMP and Real One Player, all at once.

I like it, but it SUX !!
May 07, 2003 02:50 PM

Well, I think you must be a lil amused by the title of this little essay of mine. Please do not be coz I think it is more apt than apt can be.

Basically, I belong to the vintage clan of people who believe that Microsoft is simply the best and theres no replacin' Windows. I know theres an enthusiastic bunch of Linux fans out there waiting to make a comment on this one, but hey...me and my fellow clan members don't care. Well it really is pretty obvious that Windows is the best operatig system when it comes to basic hardcore everyday functionality. Every goddamn layman can understand whats happening when he can see someone working on Windows. Its a breeze to learn most of Windows and it simply is the ost user-friendly piece of software around. When you see a GUI of Linux, you really cannot deny the fact that it is basically the same look as windows with just a few itty bitty superflous changes in the interface here and there, but all in all, the fact really is that the Windows interface is simply the best and easiest environment to work in and thats the main reason why even Microsoft has kept the interface same in their newer versions of Windows.

The other operating system that claims to have one hand over Windows is the Mac OS. But really, you just cannot tell me that you are the greatest OS around and so I gotta sell my house to be able to use it. Also, it doesn't work on any other computer other than the Apples. Its like saying, we've got a better brand of petrol, but if you wanna buy it, you gotta buy a whole new car too. Also, Mac doesn't really care about the Asian users, they think a little too lowly of us. Is there any reason whatsoever, then, that we should care a damn about a company like that?? I think not. Look, what I think is, if you want me to buy your software, come and sell it to me...and, at a price that I can manage.

Getting to the main topic, the Windows Media Player 7.0, I'd like to say that its really a good player with a lot of features. Read about them in the review by Achougoo. Its basically a great player with a load of built in features for audio, video playback, ripping, conversion and even streaming. Its also got a really nice interface and a good skinnig feature. The controls are good and pretty useful. Also, unlike like what Ameet(Achougoo) sez, I did not find any fault in the 'Search computer for media' feature. It works well. You can find all videos, audios and arrange them into multiple playlists. The player is basically very good. Also, its got a GREAT graphic equalizer feature that has a control called as 'TRU-BASS' when you crank it to maximum and turn the 'WOW Effects' setting to minimum, you will get the best bass effects that your speaker could ever produce. You don't even need a woofer. Try to use this feature and you'll be absolutely in love with the player. If you got a better set of speakers then don't forget to use this baby in that house party where you are playing the DJ with your keyboard as the turntable.

Now, for the cons. The player really sux, as I mentined in the title for its singular most irritating feature. That is its memory requirements. I got a teeny weeny 64 MB RAM and it really crawls here. It is absolutely and excruciatingly irritating to actually wait for ages for the player to even load up. When it does, you've to again wait for ages to actually switch from audio to video playback or vice-versa. I most of the times end up crapping the player and turning to loyal old Winamp coz of this. It hogs a huge lot of your RAM and if you are a poor chap like myself, please do not make this your default player. If you still would like to try it out.....go ahead...and don't forget to write down a comment here if you do ever get back.

So basically, to round it all up....if you have a huge lot of RAM...128 min....256 is better still..then believe me, you will never find a player better than this one...NEVER. This is simply the BEST. But I just wish that MS did something to tone down its memory hog. Maybe tuning down its interface would help. That would help poor people like me to use it too. Lets hope WMP 9.0 is just that. Its been launched quite some time ago, but I haven't tried it yet. Pray for me ... and all other underprivileged brothers that Billy boy listens to us.
