It has been nearly a year since I've used the product and guess what, CoolPlayer has not had an update in over an year too :-)
The last review for this product was in 2002. I thought I'll bring the review up-to date.I basically was looking for a simple media player to place on the MP3 collection DVD. CoolPlayer fitted the profile very well.
1) It does not require any installation nor does it require any space. Just download the file from https://coolplayer.sourceforge.net/ and extract it to any directory. The file size is just 500 kb.
2) If you create playlists for the files in the CD/DVD/Pen Drive and then copy CoolPlayer to the DVD, you have your own carry-and-play-in-any-windows-system CD/DVD/Pen Drive. No MP3 players need to be installed on the system.
3) CoolPlayer natively supports MP3, Ogg and WAV files. Besides, there are plenty of plug-ins listed here: https://coolplayer.sourceforge.net/?plugins
The Plug-ins found in the site pretty much cover the entire spectrum of formats available. All you need to do is to extract the DLL from the Plugin Setup/zip and copy it to the same folder as CoolPlayer.
Cons? Let me think hard about them. All are forgivable since you cannot expect the world from a tiny player that performs well. But, here are some...
a) Interface is not going to have any marks from you if you are looking for finesse found in players that consume oodles of hard disk space.
b) It's not updated frequently. So, if you have a feature request or a bug fix, you may need to wait a long time.
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
