The useless piece of crap
Aug 27, 2015 10:41 AM

I beg people please come out of the APPLE CRAZE. Apple is an excellent marketing company that made us to believe any piece of plastic or metal that have a apple logo on it is of very high quality ever achieved by mankind.

But the real thing is that they are of normal quality electronics. At the same time I wont say that they are of very poor quality. But they are extremely over priced.

My Friend bought this ipod mini last year in Kolkata. Then we got transferred to Banglore. As soon as we reached Banglore, it stopped working. As it don’t have any display, its really hard to find in what state it is in. We claimed warrenty replacement which took more than 3 months and got a new piece. Please don’t ever buy any apple products just for the sake of its logo.

Gr8 product for its time bad battery after 1 yr :(
Oct 09, 2006 12:50 AM

I purchased my apple Mini 4GB a yr ago . it worked fine for a yr. No problems at all. Not once did it skip a track. It was always reliable, I rode my bike all day with the ipod kept in my jeans. Its a tough product and though the screen is scratched due to rough usage, the body is still good with no scratches and the paint still shines. The same cannot be said abt the Nanao which is so delicate. However after a years time the battery has gone bad. even though I charge my ipod for 8 jrs the battery doesnt last too long prolly for a few hrs of continuous playback, then even though there is some juice left in the battery the ipod restarts. This is the most irritating thing as all the settings, date, time, EQ, etc are restored to the factory settings. I guess the battery needs to be replaced, which will cost me Rs.3000+ This is very disheartening, esp after spending close to 10k for an mp3 player which isnt a year old completely. The sound quality is good but apple should ship a better set of ear-fones so that bass can be heard distinctly. Also the process of adding songs should be easy(drag and drop) instead of the complicated iTunes.

Battery life is horrible - after one year
Sep 23, 2006 10:36 PM

Hi,

I have IPOD mini and I am using it from past one year. I have extremely bad, very bad experience with IPOD battery life. IPOD mini is excellent in almost all the features except battery. After using regularly for one year, I have battery life problem with IPOD mini. Even after charging it for full 8 hours, the battery life doesn't last for 15 minutes. When I went to Apple showroom, on explaining the problem, the shopkeeper immediately told me that battery needs to replaced. The new battery costs Rs 3500/-.

From the immediate response of the Apple Technician, I conclude that Apple MINI (other IPOD products) have a severe battery problems. (may be many customers like me have gone to Apple Showroms at banglore and there is only one Apple Service centre in Banglore) If you guys are ready to shell out an amount equal to 3500/- for battery replacement every year, then go ahead and purchase Apple IPODs. If not, please look out for some alternatives that are available in market.

Rgds

Music on the move~!
Aug 03, 2006 11:41 AM

The iPod Miniwas a gift to me from my Uncle who got it in USA.,so dont know the exact price, infact he got me, my sister and cousin a mini each. We were all pretty excited cos it was around the time that everyone around us was talking about the iPod and now we had our own. I have an MP3 player by Maxell which is super cool but the iPod has much more than just music. So here is my take on my iPod

The Mini has a capacity of 4GBwhich roughly means you can store upto 1000songs and the battery will run for 8hours after which you need to charge it . It infact charges and syncs via USB ONLY, which is a wee bit of a problem cos you cant always carry it with you when you are travelling to remote places where you need to hunt high and low for a pc and sit around waiting for it to get charged.. This is the only drawback as far my relation with the Mini goes. :) It comes in multiple colours, so you can pick one that is your favorite( the one in pic is how mine looks .... blue )

Once the CD is installed in your pc,you can play around and explore your device. As I said before, its not just another music player, it has much more to offer the excited user. You can Syncs Contacts, CalendarsNotes,Games and the quintessential Clock feature. All you have to do is turn on your computer and you can export all contacts from your MS outlook or Outlook express, simply click and drag these to your ipod and voila, you have it all on this handy device.

The songs for the iPod are loaded through a software called iTunes, you can download it from the apple site and it acts as a medium , through iTunes, you can select and export all your favorite tracks to your ipod and change the collection , etc. iTunes can automatically synchronize a user's iPod with specific playlists or with the entire contents of a music library each time an iPod connects to the computer. You can also set a rating (out of 5 stars) on any song, and can synch this information with their iTunes music library. Super cool na :)

The iPod lets you choose between playing songs in order or shuffling them , playing a Music quiz where you need to choose the correct artist of the song that plays. There is also the Backlightfeature that lets you choose, or play around in the dark. All you have to do is Press and Hold the Menu button for a couple of secs.

My iPod Mini has 5buttons for you to access the contents and enjoy the full effect of the device. The buttons are:

Menu (to choose the menu and toggle the backlight) - on top

Center Select (this selects a menu item) - in the center

Play / Pause (this doubles as an off switch when held) - at the bottom

Fast Forward / Skip Forward - on right

Fast Reverse / Skip Backwards - on left

Click to fast-forward, rewind, play, pause or access menus. The touch-sensitive surface around the center button is used to control volume or browse music. It has the 4buttons around it and all you have to do is run your thumb over it clockwise to increase the volume and anti to reduce .

A Hold switch on the top of the unit, next to the headphones slot, when toggled, locks the device and avoids any accidental button presses(something similar to the keypad lock we have on our cell phones)

It also comes with a neat holder that you can slide the iPod into and clip onto your belt or pants when your walking, jogging etc. The Standard iPod unit comes with Apple's trademark white head phones ,the CD,user manual and USB cable..

Now that you have music everywhere you go, what are you waiting for ..... I have seen and heard that there are some newer snazy looking models that have come up. SO get yourself a mini,or Nano or Full size.. get yourself a Dock(where you can connect your iPod to big speakers made esp for the iPod) and have a party...

Get Moving.... Get Rocking.. ....

IPod nano is the best mp3 player ever!
Mar 31, 2006 09:11 PM

IPod nano is the best mp3 player ever! I got a black 4gig at home that I love to death. The music playback is great, the photos end up a little small (but who cares? thats what cameras are for), and of course...its TINY. its a wee bit expensive but worth it. My only problem with the nano is b/c it gets scratched REALLY easily. I don't have any major monster scratches, it just really bugs me when I look at it and see all these little minor scratches all over. It might be because I got a black one instead of white, that the cat scratches are so noticable. I honestly think that the white one isnt as sexy as the black. But if you hate scratches, get a white nano. So basically getting a case is a definite must unless you really don't give a flying...you know. Another pet peeve is that the battery cant possibly last 14 friggin hours. I listen to it about on average 3 hours off and on per day and the battery's half dead. I even tried turning off the backight and still got the same results. Plan on getting a portable charger - its a pain to have to turn on the computer to charge that little thing.

The Ipod Mini Addiction
Jan 24, 2006 03:17 PM

Now I have to admit I was sceptical about the ipod mini. I looked at it as a fad item, something that is not worth it's cost. However I have found the ipod mini to be fantastic. I have the pink 4gb ipod mini (1st gen) and I love it. Despite some bad reviews on battery time I find it to be excellent.

Five best things about the ipod mini

5 - Good Sound

4 - Easy to use

3 - Versatile

2 - Addictive

1 - Portable

In terms of who should get an ipod mini you don't need to be an expert but it is an asset to have some computer knowledge. It isnt complicated to use but if you get in trouble you may need some help. For example I had a problem with my ipod not working, just getting a flashing apple. So if you don't know how to put it manually into disk drive and re format it, and your warranty is gone, you could have some issues.

Itunes - I found itunes to be excellent. It's a great way to organise your ipod and load music on. Particually I felt it was excellent for loading on your entire music collection - very quickly. I orginally only had windows me so couldnt use itunes but after getting xp the difference was amazing. Much easier to use, less mucking around (especially if you can only use media player). Loading music from itunes can be an issue if you arent in the US and that is a majour bad thing about the programme. It would be much improved if the music could be EASILY downloaded internationally.

I love my ipod, and wouldnt be without it so if you are trying to decide, go for it - you won't regret it.

Damaged Mini iPod Replaced.
Dec 14, 2005 05:07 PM

Had bought the Mini from the grey market in Heera Panna in April 2005.

Was very happy with it.

During the rains,it got wet and stopped working.

THe seller at Heera Panna was not of much help.

Somehow after a lot of running around and searching, came across the official Apple showroom at Bandra.

I took it to them and said it is not working.

They checked it on their system and confirmed that it was a genuine piece.

THey said ,they will check it in 1-2 days, and if it could not be repaired they will replace it.

THe very next day, they called up and said ,we are replacing your piece.

With in a week, they called again and said that the new piece had arrived.

So I went and collected a brand new piece.

And , now alls fine and no complaints.

Fantastic service by Apple.

Frankly did not expect it.

So they have a great product and great service to back it up.

What more can one ask for!

Move over mini here comes nano
Nov 06, 2005 04:38 PM

The Nano is a looker.blink it was love at first sight.A sleek black thinnnnnnnnn piece of gizmo that was the deserving successor to the Ipod Mini. The color display makes it look like Volkswagon beetle 2.

The nano has two versions the 2 GB and the 4Gb.It still retails in the US for $249 but I picked mine up at Alfa for rs 13,500. A gizmo I really really wanted( a steep price though). The same thing sells for 13K in Sukhsagar Market in Bangalore and 18 k at the Forum.

The typical Ipod click wheel is someting to die for. One round on the click wheel with your thumbs smoothly increases the volume. The display is the same as any apple s/w .. simply superb.

The sound is amazing with the same accessories as the other ipods the ear buds do feel a little big ..but with time the nano takes over and the other things become insignificant. It is flash-based, so you don't have to hear the hard disk drives whirring and it is a little robust as well.

The sound is crisp and finally I can listen/understand a lot of https://lyrics. It may be for a few reasons... evolution (i can understand American accents much better) and the sound quality.

The snaps are easy to load but the screen is too small to offer clarity , use the memory for what the nano does best .......play music

The only disadvantage is the absence of the livewire.when on tours make sure you carry a laptop just to charge it . It is unfair for what the Ipod stands for.

The iTunes is not as easy as it is made out to be.The tranfer of music is quite a painful task.If you have an older version of the Itunes already installed make sure you uninstall it before installing the ipod+itunes pack.

The Nano does not have a separate charger it connects through the USB port and charges through it. Since most rechargable batteries batteries have fixed charging cycles.Do not keep putting one file by one file.

Put all the files on to Itunes and update at one go.

The other thing that reviews world over say that the Ipod nano screen is not as resilient as one would wish .The scratches come on a bit too easily. If you are someone like me who want to take off the plastic covers to get a full view of electronic. DONT. This is one helluva expensive piece and pray that it lasts long enough sans scratches and scars ...It hurts twice otherwise

For a person who does not go for looks spend 2000 bucks extra and buy a 40 GB ipod it is worth it.

Zen Micro from creative is a good buy it comes with 5 GB of space and costs about 9500. It comes with radio and file transfer is really easy. But it lacks the 'cool' factor.

It is heavy but functionality it is way superior to the Ipod nano. It is heavy and big.

There are other Mp3 in the markets like the Yepp which is a good entry level Mp3 player.

The extra features are good but does not add anything to your life .Most cellphones have it .The games are good

It is the MOTORAZR equivalent of ipod..only looks ...but winner alright.

Do you have a mini?
Nov 01, 2004 11:40 AM

The Apple iPod

Folks at apples are always innovating, and were innovative and manage to create a niche market for themselves. But with iPod they entered mass market. Apple iPod was an amazing product, but iPod mini is probably the greatest mp3 player on the face of the earth

About the Pod

Apple iPod Minicomes with a innovative click wheel, navigating between songs and volume control, all of iPod's moves can be controlled thru the click wheel. Good UI and very very user friendly The mini can store around 1000 songs, it has around 4 GB capacity.

It can store around 1000 contacts (compatible with VCF/MS Outlook) and comes with a calendar, clock, alarm and 4 games. So all the features of an organizer that you normally use; is also available in this baby. When it?s dark, you can enable the backlight.

The songs can be categorized by Genre, Album, Artist etc and the iPod and iTunes can do it automatically for you. You can create your own play lists too. Mini comes with Firewire and USB support, so you can hook it up with you PC quite easily, you need to have the iTunes software to keep you music library and iPod in sync.

Real player provides support for iPod but you can?t use both, songs imported thru Real player is removed by iTunes. I use only iTunes cos it has what ever I require. You can burn your CD's directly and the CDDB service looks up names from Internet so you don?t have to key in the track information. If the info is not found, you can key in your own and submit the info so that the next person can get it when he/she needs it

Ripping from CD's may take some time, particularly when you enable the error correction (useful for old and scratched CD's) but importing from iTunes is a breeze. Mini has various equalizer settings from Rock to Classical, but enable the Bass and it just Rocks. The default ear phone that is shipped is pretty decent but you can get a Sony in ear phones which are amazing. Playback is superb, and handling is quite easy and battery life is around 8 hours. It comes with a re-chargeable battery, and within 2 hours it charges 80%. I found this was enough for a day or two, as I normally listen when I walk to work.

Where to buy

Apple iPod Mini comes in various colors, I feel that green's the best and I have a green one. I spent 2 weeks looking for a green mini at Circuit cities and Best buys but finally had to go the Apple store. Yeah, I bought it online from https://store.apple.com, you can pick up ur mini and also other cool accessories from there. Pretty well organized site and option for normal and express shipping (for a extra price).

My iPod was shipped through FedEx and I got it in two days. (Within US). If you buy from the store, you can personalize it with Laser engraving, for extra cost. Useful if you are giving it as a gift for some one, you can club in a gift certificate for iTunes music store so that your friend can download some of his/her favorite songs as well.

Verdict

1000 songs in your pocket, where ever you go, good battery life, good looking, great playback quality, easy to manage and configure, and extras like contacts, games and calendar/alarm makes it a amazing product. It may be bit expensive at $249.99 but I feel it?s the best thing that money can buy. Get out there and get your own mini!!!

'Peace'

Ranjith.

Note

The only hitch is that if you want to buy track from iTunes, you need to have a Credit card issued in USA with a US billing address. I had to use my friend's card to download some songs as I have a international credit card issued in India. I sent out a mail to support and they informed me that there are more countries in the plan.
