Android is an open source software stack maintained produced and supported by the Open Handset Alliance, abbreviated as OHA, which is an Organisation of 84 companies that develop mobile standards.
This is by far the most widely used Operating system in the world. According to 2016 stats, more than 85% of the smartphones are running on Android. That itself is self explanatory how popular Android is, among us, now a days.
Well, The main reason for this is that it is an Open source operating system. That means, it is free and available to everyone. Plus, it offers great customizations.
Like you can change the wallpapers, ringtones, screensavers right at your fingertips. You can even change the while Operating system on an Android phone, using a custom ROM. This can be of great help in case your phone is not running normally on the Original ROM. This problem has been seen in many Chinese phones, Mainly lenovo, and Xiaomi Phones as their Own Software is not so good.
Besides that, Android lets you get access to developer options and play with some cool features. With the launch of Nougat, android has got even better. Now I can customize the status bar of my phone, disable the items that I don't want to see. Add a second timer to the clock. See the battery percentage right in the battery bar. And much more
Sharing data is easy. Whether same platform or cross platform. Android easily connects to all the devices at my home, whether its an iphone, or another Android phone or even PC. If your phone and PC share the same wifi network, then use can wirelessly transfer data between then using Apps like Share It.
However, Android is not considered Secure as it is very easy to break the security on an android phone. Someone can steal your phone and just reset it to set it up as a new phone. So, it definitely does not provides protection against thefts like an Apples iphones does.
Also, it allows the user to download almost anything from the internet. Like third party apps, games, which are often infected with bugs, viruses, cracks and sometimes they just don't work. This eventually leads to piracy. Which I guess many of the people enjoy. Knowingly of unknowingly. Some even reproduce data to make money. But that is an illegal offence and it results in loss of companies that put a lot of money in the creation and research and development of their product. This is a major con of Android.
So, I think Android is a good OS, if used properly knowing the risks of Security and Data piracy, Which you might have to face.
