Set in the Pre Independence era, the story revolves around the relationship between Queen Victoria and Abdul who is randomly selected to serve the noble. The main plot revolves around Victoria's loneliness after serving for 6 long decades. Having seen every one close to her depart she finds solidarity in Abdul. Had the film been only about this relationship it would have fared better. But director Stephen Frears tries to absolve Queen Victoria of any racial discrimination.

I am tired of seeing the Hollywood trying to glorify colonialism. They try to show as if colonialism here was an accident and not intentional which is false. I would have liked the film if it did not skip the narrative.
