I still remember the days where we either rely on local guides or physical map for directions. Which was difficult and I will always get lost from my directions.
Luckily we have Google maps now which shows exact directions, shortcuts. Even if we are lost we can always rely on Google maps.
I'll list few pros and cons:
Pro:

.Show travel estimate, traffic delays and congestion
.Shows shortcuts ideal for two wheeler, four wheeler
.It can announce when to take left or right when you're a solo driver. Just plug a hands free and the companion will guide you.
.Day and night mode
.Can add multiple stops before your destination
.Can identify the distance between two locations
.Can view satellite map as well
.Can locate nearest shopping mall, restaurant, petrol bunk or anything
Cons:
.Battery usage is high, since it uses gps for accurate device location
