Specially in the year 1965 or 1966 when I was studying in 8th std; I used to sing ur songs of Dosti pictures in my classroom then I had started playing mouth organ of my own and played "Jane walo jara " on Harmonica "HERO" Made in China, but I just want to know what is name of MOUTH ORGAN played by R.D.Burman in DOSTI MOVIE. I shall be highly obliged if you can get me the name of Mouth Organ till my death as it was awesome and unforgettable and unbelievable as I  have seen this movie 7 times with lots of tears. Always. Today I am 62yrs. old but still want to know the name of Mouth Organ which was fantastic and matchless. Please send your reply I shall be highly obliged.

Laxmikanth Pyarelal.
Jun 24, 2012 09:47 PM 8089 Views

To me, 90% of their songs are best songs, and picking 20 best songs out of these songs is impossible.

To me, they are one of the best music directors of indian cinema.[may be best ever]

Even music directors like Naushad, S D Burman, Shanker Jaikishan, Kalyanji Anandji, R D Burman, and many big names have appreciated Laxmi Pyare's works.

Big directors [to name a few] like Manoj kumar, Raj kapoor, Manmohan desai, Subhash ghai have gone behind them for there work. Better try to pick 20 bad songs and see, that will also be difficult to pick, and also those bad songs also will be a gem to today's music and music directors.

Immortal songs by S/Shri.Laxmikanth & Pyarelal
Nov 16, 2008 10:30 PM 8400 Views

Shri Laxmikanthji and Pyarelalji in combination composed vaareity of film songs and provided enchanting music to lovers of hindi film music.  The following are the some of the immortal songs composed by them.

1.'ek rithu aye ek rithu jaye' rendered by lataji and Mannadey sahib from the film 'Sau saal baad'.  Unfortunately audio/video cd of this song is not available anywhere.

2.'Kabie tho miloge jeevan saathi' sung by lathaji from the film 'Sathi Savithri' is noted for the great rendition and classical touch.

3.'Resham ke dori' of the film 'Saajan'(1969) is a beautiful duet rendered by none other than lathaji and Rafisaheb.  This is a dream composition.

4.'Ohe zara Khafa Khafa' is another inimitable duet by great Lathaji and Rafisaheb from the film'Shagird', which is noted for western touch.

5.'Neend Kabhi Rahathithe ankhon mein' is another beauty by Lathaji from the film 'Asra'.

6.'Dhayya re Dhayya Yasodha Mayya' from the film'Asra'is also a beautiful song rendered by lathaji, which takes you to lord Krishna whenever you hear it.

7.'Ram Kare aisa ho jaye' is a'lori' sung by Mukeshji, which is a wonderful song from 'Milan'

8.'Raath Suhane jaag rahe he, dheere dheere chupke chupke' a duet by Rafi Saheb and Suman Kalyanpur is a rare composition, which seemed to be forgotten by many. This came from the film 'Jigri Dost'.

  1. Who can forget the song'Bhahosom Hawas mein deevana' sung by Rafisaheb from the film **'Night in London'

10.Another noted composition comes from the film "Humjoli"** which is none other than'Dal Gaya Din' rendered by Rafisaheb and Ashaji.  This number is enchanting.

.There are several other songs of the same calibre composed by them.

.My thought  is that the sweetness associated with their music continued  throughout their entire career, which is amazing and  no other director can claim such a consistency.

Laxmikant Pyarelal & downfall of bollywood music
Apr 25, 2008 12:46 AM 9261 Views

The duo were most commercially successful music composers  They Worked as assistants of S.D burman and kalyananji

Anandji.  Pyarelal, the son of trumpet playeri"Ramprasad

sharma" was excellent arranger & violinist of Zubin Mehta's calibre. They

played in orchestra of Husnalal bhagatram first commercially successful

duo of bollywod who were later on taken over by Shankar Jaikishan(

talented, prolific duo for whom both commercial

succes & offbeat musical score coexisted.). Pyarelal's  Goan music teacher  "anthony Gonsvalves" was  remembed thru the song "my

name is Anthony gonsalves "by kishore in "AAA"!  SJ took a

back seat paving way to LP.  Sant Dnyeshwar, Dosti &Parasmani were hits in early

carrear. In Dosti RD. burman played Mouth organ. Their

friendship with him lasted  lifelong. They said that they regard R.D.

burman as their only competitor!

However their music had same theka in almost all songsl leading to

monotonicity a fact mentioned by Asha bhosale's son. It is surprising

looking at beautiful orchestra arrangement in many of their songs. It

is unclear why the duo resorted to a monotonous and rather dull theka,

not toe tapping as that of OP Nayyar, given their command as arrangers.

The commercial success of LP & replacement of SJ by LP was argued

as  the main reason of the downfall of bollywood music. It is true

that Kalyanaji anandji produced superior music than the duo overall.

But due to growing commercial success of the duo other composers were

helpless. The composers Rajesh roshan, bappi lahiri, Annu malik worked as assistants to LP.  If u observe rajesh

roshan's later work with kishore u can't miss the rajesh roshan stamp

on the singing of kishore and the orchestration( the use of whistle)

in the song "Yeh Jeevan Hai" of LP. T. They were often termed as

bandmasters due to music style. It is also said that the duo used to

mastermind "Fermaish" of their songs on Vividhbharati and "Ceylon"

through listener's letters hailing from "Rajanandgaon' and

"zumaritalaiya" & were accused of managing the band players to play

their songs. The downfall of bollywood music & poor musical score

is clear in late seventies & eighties when R.D. burman had to take

back seat, . As  professional  ego  the duo promoted Rafi than kishore

to get a miracle to their credit like miracle performed by Burmans for

Kishore replacing Rafi with Aradhana. However the effort could meet

only limited success as  like Rajesh roshan, Bappi Lahiri and

R.D burman continued to give their best compositions to kishore &

Kalyanaji Anandji using Kishore for Amtabh  As music style of the duo

suited to rafi more they promoted singers l Balsubramaniam,

Suresh wadkar, shabbirkumar.  they composed a song consisting of only film names for "ek duje ke liye"  But the duo had great respect for talent of kishore and

were the only composers to use kishore in sixties apart

from Burmans. Lata's voice  was must for them but later on anuradha

Paudwal was promoted.

There were few memorable musicals of the duo( like Saraswati

chandra, Safar of Kalyanji Anandji or Amnar Prem, Kati Patang, Teesri

Manzil of R.d burman) which were  successful with outstanding & offbeatmusic . Music of Dosti, Parasmani & the likes is not in  the category as all time great. **However

Bobby & Daag could be ranked as their outstanding musical scores with O grade, and hero was excellent in eighties. they introduce chanchal in boobby " beskak mandir todo) andpakistani singer  Reshma("hiye lami judai in HERo! excellent) **The

duo did compose some extraordinary gems. Though they used lata &

rafi  extensively there are more gems in the voice of kishore!

In  mid eighties they had to take backseat with the

prominence of "BappiLahiri" . But they rose to the occasion by composing "rote rote hasna seekho

by kishore for Rajnikant to compete with bappi. *

MR. India, Hero, tejab were the good scores in their last phase. Most leading filmmakers worked with them. T**he ghai  episode

where ghai wanted to do the music with Rd burman for his next movie

"ram lakhan"and later on backed out is very famous.Rajkapoor fell out

with them after Premrog and shfted to Ravindra Jain. **At one time

they were so busy that they could not complete background music of

Subhash ghai's Krodhi. It was composed by KAlyanaji anaandji with

separate credits. **Sahir ludhiyanwi was not happy with their

potential for songs of "kabh-kabhi" and asked Yash Chopra to change

composer or give his songs back. "khayyam" did the music of

"kabhi-kabhi"  They were invloved in the controversy over song "choli ke peche in the last phase.

* They produced music of all types folk music -classical based, Western, ghzal, quwwali. etc.

Their song "ek do teen " was instrumental in making Madhuri Dixit

numero uno and alka yagnik was star singer after this song!  cholike

peeche is also regarded classique in it's type songs.*

Best of Laxmikant Pyarelal
Dec 13, 2005 03:39 PM 20368 Views

Why Laxmikant Pyarelal?

Only last week Himesh Reshmiya admitted during Sa Re Ga Ma Pa   show on TV that his music of Tere Naam) was inspired by Laxmikant  Pyarelal. I am sure many other music directors have taken inspiration from them. LP, as this team was popularly known, has scored music for more than 300 films! They worked with some of the biggest names and gave us some memorable music.

What others have said so far?

We all know 20 songs are not easy to select. Some really good ones are bound to miss out. I did some search on the net and most articles that I came across had said virtually similar things. I also read some of the reviews about LP that other members have written. Many have covered the topic in depth.  I have taken inspiration from all these sources and I have presented here what I liked.

Laxmikant Kulalkar

Laxmikant was born on the Laxmi Poojan day of Diwali in 1937. He spent his childhood amidst dire poverty in the slums of Vile-Parle.  It was here that some street-side toy music instruments vendor was playing the harmonica(mouth organ, something new then).  He purchased one of those and later in life; he was also impressed by the mandolin. He used to play on street functions and mesmerise people with his art. Laxmi learnt mandolin from well known player Bal Mukund Indorker. He also learnt violin from none other than Husnalal of the popular duo of Music directors  Husnalal Bhagatram. Laxmikant was barely 10 years old!

Pyarelal Sharma

Pyarelal R. Sharma was born on September 3, 1940. He was the son of a renowned trumpeter Pt. Ramprasad Sharma. Pt. Ramprasad had an in-depth knowledge of most musical instruments and the ways in which they were played.

Pandit Ramprasad was a guru for an overwhelming number of people ranging from slum dwelling children to great maestros. A few names would be Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshksar, Uttam Singh, Surendra Sodhi, Anu Malik, Zarine Daruwala, Mahavir Prasad,  and of course Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Pyarelal learnt his music basics from his father and later went on to learn the violin from a Goan teacher Mr. Anthony Gonsalves. Pyarelal started to play the violin when he was eight years. By the age of 12, his family's financial condition forced him to earn money by playing in studios. Pyarelal then used to frequent visiting and playing the violin in studios such as Ranjit Studios. In Shor for the song Ek Pyar Ka Nagma – the violin is played by Pyarelal himself.

Laxmikant Pyarelal – What a team!

Sometimes Pyarelal used to be indulged in playing cricket on the ground after working in the studio with the other people. On one of these occasions, Laxmikant came and asked them whether he could join in, and everyone agreed. That's how Laxmikant and Pyarelal first met.

As a player for other music directors they got enough to put food on the table but they had determination and will to do better. It is not easy to get out of ones comfort zone. Slowly, they got an opportunity to play for music directors Kalyanji Anandji in 1953. Once during the absence of Kalyanji Anandji’s regular arranger Sebastian D’Souza Pyarelal got the opportunity to be arranger for one of the songs. Pyarelal showed unusual prowess in this.  From then they became the assistants of Kalyanji Anandji.

Laxmikant and Pyarelal besides having been musicians, arranged music for many composers such as for S. D. Burman in'Ziddi' and for good friend R. D. Burman in is very first film'Chhote Nawab'. Although the first released film that credited Laxmikant-Pyarelal as Music Directors was Babubhai Mistry's mythological B-Grader Parasmani released in 1962, Laxmikant and Pyarelal faithfully remained assistant music directors to Kalyanji Anandji right till 1966-67

When their struggle was not getting them anywhere at one stage Pyarelal had even decided to leave India and go to Venice to play for symphony orchestras, similar to his colleague Zubin. Laxmikant discouraged him from doing this. Imagine if Laxmikant had not succeeded in persuading Pyarelal!

Songs that I liked

Following is my list of 20 songs. It is by no means complete and I am already feeling that some good ones have missed out.

1. Mere mehboob qayamat hogi MR.X IN BOMBAY   Singer: Kishore.  Even today this song has a special effect on listeners.

2. Hansta Hua Noorani ChehraPARASMANI   Singers: Lata Mangeshkar & Kamal Barot, Lyrics: Asad Bhopali.

Even kids those days liked this song. The tune was so catchy.

3. Ek Do Teen… TEJAAB   Singer: Alka Yagnik,  Lyrics: Javed Aktar.

A school principal in Gwalior said, “This song makes our life easy because all new students already know how to count”.

4. Jane Se Uske Aaye Bahar JEENE KI RAAH   Singer: Mohd. Rafi

This song was a hit. One of the movies where Jeetendra was not a jumping jack - but was still liked.

5. Achha To Hum Chalte Hain AAN MILO SAJNA   Singers: Lata & Kishore, Lyrics: Anand Bakshi.

Who can forget this song from that era? Well I can not.

6. Ajnabi Tum Jane Pehchane Se  HUM SAB USTAD HAIN   Singer: Kishore Kumar.

Very well rendered song of Kishore. It is an evergreen song.

7. Bindia Chamkegi DO RAASTE   Singer: Lata Mangeshkar.

Rajesh Khanna was on top and girls used to marry his with his picture. What a beautiful song.

The following are in no order -

fir ye sitam humpe ki dekhna guroor se.

oh deewane.tu kya jaane.

dil ki bekarariyan hai kya.

-

Dafliwale - Sargam

-

One of my favourites sung by Lataji and Rafi Saab. From Sargam, a lovely fast paced track with brilliant vocals and a brilliant background beat. Original music at its best! If they ever remix this song, no-one will be angrier than me!lol!

tere bin mein kya.mere bin tu kya.

ik duje bin hum akele.

dono ke man se.man ke milan se.

lagte hai sargam ke mele.

-

Main Shayar To Nahin - Bobby

-

My list would have been incomplete without this song, sung by Shailendra Singh. This song features in quite a lot of my lists.but I love the vocals, the music.but my favourite part is the amazing lyrics!

pyar ka naam maine suna tha magar.

pyar kya hai ye mujhko nahin thi khabar.

main tu uljha rahan uljhanon ki tara.

doston mein raha dushmano ki tarah.

-

Chitti Aayi Hai - Naam

-

This is the song where I first recognised Pankaj Udhas as a brilliant singer. This song is another tearjerking one. Currently, I have a friend living with me from India(he used to be one of my best friends in India who didn't have anywhere to stay, so I let him share my apartment - how nice am i!) Anyway, his girlfriend sends him loads of letters and txts etc. so we have this personal joke where he sings this song to her down the fone to get her all agitated and she's on the other side of the fone shouting SHUT UP, YOU'RE COMIN BACK!! Sorry guys, just giving you some background information;-)

upar mera naam likha hai.

andar ye paighaam likha hai.

o pardes ko jaane wale.

laut ke na aane waale.

-

Aa Jaane Jaan - Inteqam

-

Lataji sounds so seductive in this song. This is a change from her usual sweet voice! Lie back in your seat and let yourself be seduced;-)!

aa jaane jaan.

aa mera ye husn.jawan.jawan.jawan

-

Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai - Shor

-

Possibly my favourite LP song, sung by Lataji and Mukesh. This is slow romantic song which really touches the heart.

ik pyar ka nagam hai.maujon ki rawani hai.

zindagi aur.kuch bhi nahin.teri meri kahani hai.

-

Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai Pyar - Amar Akbar Anthony

-

A bouncy love song with Rafi Saab, Mukesh and Kishor Da all flirting with Lataji. A nice easy listening one - one to sing to your loved one!

humko tumse hogaya hai pyar kya karen.

bolo to jiyen.bolo to marjayeein.

-

Tere Karan Mere Sajan - Aan Milo Sajna

-

A sweet song sung by Lataji. The main reason I like this song is beacause of its simplicity!

tere karan tere karan.mere saajan mere saajan.

aag lagi saari duniya ko.mein teri ho gayi.sajanji.

-

Ye Galiyan - Prem Rog

-

A sweet song sung by Lataji again. This is talking about a bride leaving her maike. Played in sangeet's all over England!

ye galiyan ye chaubara.yaahan aana na dubara.

ab hum to gaye pardesi.ki tere yahan koi nahin.

ki tere yahan koi nahin.

-

Hum To Tere Aashiq Hai - Farz

-

A lovely romantic number by Lata-Mukesh. One to sing again with your loved one!

hum to tere aashiq hai sadiyon purane.

chaahe tu maane chaahe na maane.

-

Hawa Hawaai - Mr. India

-

A bouncy lively track sung by Kavita Krishnamurty. Come on guys, you must have sung this once when you were young?

bilji girane.main hoon aayi.

kehte hai mujhko.

HAWA HAWAAI!

-

Om Shanti Om - Karz

-

A personal favourite of mine by Kishor da. I love the energy of this song. It shows how Kishor da can make a simple song into such a great one!

mere umar ke naujawanon.

dil na lagana o diwano.

maine pyar karke.chain khoya neend khoyi.

-

Dil Bil Pyar - Shagird

-

One on the simplest and sweetest songs I have ever heard, sung by Lataji. Listen to it to know what i'm talking about!

tu hai bura to hoga.

par baaton mein teri ras hai.

jaisa bhi hai mujhe kya.

apna lagey to bas hai.

Laxmikant* Pyarelal-- The Indian Music History
Jul 02, 2005 01:44 AM 9282 Views

Laxmikant Pyarelal worked a lot in Indian Cinema and produced son\me of the very best tunes of all times. Their work was appreciated by critics as well and they won eight Filmfare awards which gives us the idea that how superbly they work that in presence of other music directors they lead from the front. My Favorite twenty songs by LP are as follows:

  1. Chahoon Ga Main Tujhe-Dosti

If you ever heard the song you must be a lover of this song. The first formal recognition for LP in music industry. People start admiring their music from the day one. Rafi sung the song with such a joy that make you a fan of LP and Rafi. The one very special song of 60’s.

  1. Aane Se Uske Aye Bahar & Aap Mujhe Ache Lagne Lage —Jeene Ki Raah

M.Rafi sings the song in such a manner that young singer today sing this song and learn many techniques of singing and MD’s offcourse learn the music from this song. You don’t need very up beats to make people shake their legs its melody which can also do the same work. The other song sung by Lataji. She won Filmfare award for the song. A unique tune never produced after LP by anybody.

  1. Aaj Mausam Bada-Loafer

Again Rafi Sahab sings in joyful manner.i don’t know why when ever I listen this song a special mood overtakes me as if there is a cloudy weather smooth cool breeze blowing a beautiful spring day is around me. That is what the power of LP’s melodious music.  Simply one landmark in Indian music.

  1. Sola Baras Ki—Ek Doje Ke Liye

The song seems at first as it is plain LP style but when it goes on you see there is no pause in the singing that is what is called experimentation. LP blend melody fine music and superb singing together and produced a highest quality product for music lovers. Lataji sung the song as usual superbly.

  1. Yeh Dil Tum Bin-Ijazat

A wonderful melodious song. Rafi & Lata produced superior quality of singing. LP produced sweetest of their tunes. I bet any new singer try to sing this song and luckily able to sing it rightly he can be said as singer. The one outstanding production by LP. Showing not only their talent to world but also to the Industry.

  1. Pyar Karne Wale Kabhi darte-Hero

The kind of technique Nadeem Shravan and Anu Malik uses these days. So we can say LP are the pioneer of this technique. Simple melody and soft music. Ghoongroo Jhankar is obvious in the song with the Been and big drum beating. A very good song indeed.

  1. Yeh Galiyan Yeh Chobara—Prem Rog

I remember the song from my childhood as my Mom like the song and she use to listen the song. It has many memories to share and that is the song all about. A high quality song with some exclusive tune. Lataji was on her peak when she sung the song. The one very best wedding song as well.

  1. Jane Kyoun Log—Mehboob Ki Mehndi

Though I did’nt like the picturization  due to lyrics and situation dosent match but if you just listen the song it shows you an impression of a sad song with some very emotional singing and https://lyrics. Lataji sung the song so perfectly that I am simply speechless.

  1. Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara—Do Raaste

  2. Lata-Rafi duet. Chup gae Sare Nazare Ooye Kya Baat Ho Gai. the start ensures the song is loving. LP produced these kind of melodies in early 70’s and outplayed Shankar Jaikishan and ruled for next two decades.  A very special song. These kind of song are rare these days.

  3. Who Jab Yaad Aye-Parasmani

Rafi Sahab sung the song in a mood which take you to another world. LP explored many worlds of music and this is one of their destination. Thought he song enters sometimes in SJ territory but originality and purity of tune is guaranteed.

  1. Mere Dil Main Aaj Kya Hai-Daag

A plain melody remembered for years and people loved the song. Kishore Kumar at this point of time outplayed Rafi Sahab and the song become one of the finest in both Kishore’s and LP’s career.

  1. Hansta Hua Noorani Chehra—Parasmani

Lataji sung the song so cutely that it speaks itself. Dilruba O Dilruba. in between the song is quite loving. LP established their own style and stiked to it forever which proved their success.

  1. Bindya Chamke Gi-Do Raaste

Lataji sung the song with joy. The Dholuk beats gives a very superb impression. The music and tune is outstanding. Whenever these type of masterpieces come in front one question which strikes my head is that are the today’s MD’s doing justice to music or not the answer comes NO. this kind of songs are said to be hard work. A unique composition and simply the best.

  1. Jhilmil Sitaroon Ka—Jeevan Mirtyu

Rafi Sahab sung the song in his natural mood and LP produced the everlasting melody. The one thing is clear from this song that LP tries theiur best to chage the musc face and partly able to chage it.

  1. Dafli Wale—Sargam

Lata-Rafi duet. Everyone likes this song so there is no other question about the song. Any album with Lat-Rafi duet releases today has this song why the answer is simple the most favorite song of public.

  1. Mere Mehboob Qayamat Hogi—Mr.X in Bombay

Kishore Kumar sung the song. My favorite song and I am sure any body who ever heard it before would certainly have liked it. A sentimental song with a very soft music and a superb tune gives a soothing impact to the song.

  1. Chitthi Aai Hey—Naam

Pankhaj Udas sung the song. If you love Sanjay Dutt you must have listen the song. Later 80’s best song. Lyrics are very special. So LP not only produced good music but good artistes as well, like Pankhaj was never had that position which he got after this song.

  1. Woh Hain Zara Khafa Khafa—Shagird

A simple and hummable track. Lat-Rafi duet once again and with LP combination the song becomes more special. The simplicity of the tune and the softness of the music is the highlight of the song

  1. Ek Pyar Ka Naghma—Shor

A rare Mukesh and Lata duet in LP album. But a very inspiring song. The song talks about a persons life and with some cute lyrics the soft music and superb singing gives the song multi-loaded result.

  1. Acha To Hum Chalte Hain—Aan Milo Sajna

Lata & Kishore Duet. Another very special tune and some regular music by LP. But the worth listening is its tune and arrangements. The singers singing is relax mood and that gives the impression how cooperative LP were with the singers and produces high quality music for music lovers. A cool song or conversation between a lover and beloved.

That is what a problem I face whenever writing a review on any legend that I still have 1000s of songs which can be listed very easily here. But due to spce and topic restriction I am bound to have these 20 only.

Laxmikant Pyarelal is great name of Indian music industry I guess almost half of the Indian music work is done by LP. They are simply the legends.

LP: MAXIMUM Number of hits with diverse music!
Aug 16, 2004 07:12 PM 11083 Views

Lakshmi-Pyaare:

A few days back I promised'Sirji'(Ajay55: huge database of Hindi songs & specialization Lakshmi-Pyare) that I will be writing a Lakshmi-Pyare review soon. I had some text written but couldn't finish it due to several other reviews(The Worst Suckers!):-) & the work-load. Also, wanted to check out a few more songs before I posted 20 best!

Lakshmi-Pyare have the most number of hits in the Indian Film History period! There is no challenge to their longevity, quality & variety of the music they offered. They gave all sorts of music: Classical, Folk Tunes, Kawwalis, Gazhals & what not. It is amazing how they adopted to the changing tests & westernization of the Indian movie music.

In the era of Annu Maliks & Nadim Shravans it is good to see at least one quality name from the golden era in the Indians Movie music. Except for A.R. Rehman I do not see any other music director that can measure up even today with Lakshmi-Pyaare.

There were a few strained moments in their relationship but they soon realized that they are the best when together.

I wonder why Lakshmi-Pyaare do not appeal to me as much as others say O.P, S.D, C Ramchandra, R.D. Prob'ly it came from my parent's listening habits. I was not exposed to Lakshmi-Pyaare as I should have. It was only in the last few years I started collecting their music.(I am glad I did!).

Lakshmi-Pyaare often chose simple but elegant tunes for their music. Many music directors have some specialty & they created pockets of their influence in Indian people but LP is the sole pair that enjoys nationwide popularity. Right from the villages to small town to highly polished urban areas to nightclubs to social events music played by LP is appreciated.

Same is true for the age groups. R.D is more popular among the younger generation with Shankar-Jaikishan/SD taking the middle-aged. LP again have a VERY diverse base hear too that goes across gender, age, religion & what not.

Here is a list of a few movies & the songs in bold font that I would like to include. From #12 I have started with only songs & not the movie

(1) Their innings started from the hits of Parasmani: Hasata huwa Nuraani chehera is one of the most heard/played song in India. The same movie features'Woh Jab yaad aaye bahot yaad aaye'

(2) Shagird is my personal favorite: Woh hain jara khafa khafa, Duniya Pagal hain, Bade Miyan Deewane, Dil Wil pyar war, Udate pawan ke(Ruk ja ay hawa, tham ja ay ghata)

(3) Dosti: I hate melodrama & all that but who can ignore the gazab songs from this movie? Rahi Manwa Dukh ki chinta is the one I would like to include here. Meri Dosti Mera pyar, Chahunga main tuzhe are other great ones.

(4) Aaye Din Bahar ke: Suno Sajana papihene kaha hain ye pukarake

Again a personal favorite & all time great song. One more from this movie with amazing lyrics is: Mere Dushman tu meri dosti ko Tadape

(5) Farz: Jumping Jack Jeetu: The logevity of songs in this movie is also apparant with Hum to tere Ashiq hain sadiyon purane & Masta baharon ka maini ashiq.

(6) Pathar Ke Sanam: LP gave marvelous songs to Pathhars in this movie!:) The title song, Mehboob mere, Mehboob Mere, Touba ye matwali chal

(7) Milan: Sawan ka Mahina pawan kare soe(are shor nahi baba soe).! Who doesn't know this song? Wonder how I missed this song from Mukesh's top 20! Another from the same movie is'Hum Tum, yug yug se ye geet milan ke'

(8) Mere Humdum Mere Dost: This movie also has'Oh My God' songs! Just take a look at this list: Chhalkaye Jaam A personal favorite: Aapahika naam lekar pi hain sabhine; Na ja kahin ab ja ja, Huwi Sham unaka khayal Like this due to Rafi performance, lyrics & the tune; Chalo Sajana jahan tak ghata chale.

(9) Aaa Jan-E-Jaaan, aan mera ye husna jawan jawan

Don't know the movie for this one but this is the Asha-type song sung by Lata(filmed on Helen.: I like this as Lata hasn't sung many such songs.

I have covered 11 songs till now, here are the others that I love:

(12) Main Shayar to nahin

Hard to quantify why, I just like it, it is the same with'Gunche lage kehen, phulon se bhi suna hain tarana pyaar ka keheta hain aake mil O meri Jindagi, tanaha na beet jaaye deen bahaar ka' from Tarana. May be different voice of Shailendra or maybe the quality of the music.

(13) Mere Mehboob qayamat hogi'

From Kishor from Mrx X in Bombay? This one for Kishor!

(14) Sanz Dhale Gagan Tale Hum kitane ekaki' & Man Q beheka re beheka adhi raat ko. Sung by Mangeshkar bhaginis it is one GREAT song. Sanz Dhale is also a Permanent fixture in all time greats. I am sad that these BEAUTIFUL songs are wasted in this sub-par movie like Utsav.

(15) Khilona jaan Kar tum to, Mera Dil tod jaate ho

Great actor like Sanjeev Kumar & Rafi's voice.

(16) Ik pyar ka nagma hain, Maujo ki ravanee hain

A very mediocre acting by Manoj Kumar(what else is new) is made tolerable by the music LP gave! This one is a GREAT song.

(17) Dard-E-Dil Dard-E-Jigar Dil main jagaya aapane

Rafi's last recorded song. Kab Kaha Sab Kho gayee jitanbhi thi parchhaiya, Utha gayee yaaron ki mehphil ho gayee tanahaiyan!

(18) Ye mulakat ik bahana hain pyar ka silsila puran hain

Not sure if RD or LP in this song. Please let me know.(Jeetendta's movie forgot name). Lata has made it a great song, the lyrics are simple but beautiful.

(19) Jumma Chumma de de

Based on an African tune, this is one of the all time HIT songs. Record audio cassetes were sold of this movie(Nothing new for LP).

(20) Achha to hum chalate hain

Romantic song for the romantic hero. Appropriate song to end this review too!:)

Regards,

~Milind

Dar-E-Salam Tanzania
''Parasmani'' of Hindi Film Music. LAXMI-PYARE.
Apr 13, 2004 08:27 AM 43123 Views

Undoubtedly, LAXMIKANT-PYARELAL, the most prolific and consistent music directors of Hindi Film Music. The Duo represented an archive of hit film music that was churned out non-stop right from 1963 till the end of the century.

Still difficult, but I have selected some of the best Musical Films in which almost all the songs are excellently composed by LP who have won as many as 7 Filmfare Awards but LP surely deserve to win even more Filmfare Trophies.

PARASMANI(1963). This was the very fist film of Laxmi-Pyare. All the Songs Hit and are still in demand. They jumped in the film industry with Super Hit Song Hasata Hua Nurani Chehara(Lata-Kamal Barot) followed by Woh Jab Yaad Aaye Bahot Yaad Aaye(Lata-Rafi), Ui Ma Ui Ma Ye Kya Ho Gaya(Lata), * Mere Dil Main Halki Si(Lata), *Roshan Tumhi Se Duniya(Rafi), Gali Gali Ye Baat Chali To Log Kya Kaheng)Lata-Mukesh).

DOSTI(1964). It was Rajashri Films second movie. All the prominent music directors of that time refused to give the music to this film as there was no star cast(two teenage unknown actors) and also they feel there was nothing in the film to compose the songs for Blind and Physically handicap Children. But LP took up the challenge and the film became History. The film was a great success and the credit goes to LP's immortal music. The sweet melodies includes Chahunga Main Tuze, Meri Dosti Tera Pyar, Mera To Jo Bhi Kadam Hai, Jane Walo Jara Mudake Dkho, Raahi Manawa Dukh Ki Chinta(All by Rafi), *Gudiya Hamase Ruthi Rahogi(Lata)

MR. X IN BOMBAY(1965). Kishor Kumar was passing through the lean phase of his carrier but he along with LP produced some of the best songs. Mere Mehaboob Quayamat Hogi(Kishor), Chali Re Chali Re Gori(Lata-Kishor), *Khoobsurat Haseena Jan-E-Ja(Lata-Kishor), Zulmi Hamare Sawariyan Ho Ram, (Lata), Allha Kare Tu Bhi Aajaye(Lata)

AAYE DIN BAHAR KE(1966). LP?s one of the best Musical Hit Film. By this time LP started cementing their place in the film industry. Who can forget the melodious songs Suno Sajana Papihe Ne(Lata), Mere Dushman Tu Meri(Rafi), Ye Kali Jab Talak(Lata-Mahendra), *Khat Likha De Sawariya(Asha), Ai Kash Kisi Deewane Ko*(Lata-Asha).

FARZ(1967). This was LP?s first?Golden Jubilee? Hit film. The?Super Hit? music of this film was solely responsible for the success. The songs of the films are popular even today. Mast Baharon Ka Main Aashiq(Rafi), Hum To Tere Aashiq Hai( Lata-Mukesh), Bar Bar Din Ye Aaye(Rafi), Tumse O Haseena Kabhi(Rafi-Suman Kalyanpur), Dekho Dekho Ji Socho Ji(Lata).

SHAGIRD(1967). Yet another?Golden Jubilee? Musical Hit film for LP. Just listen to the evergreen music Bade Miya Deewane, Duniya Pagal Hai(All by Rafi), Wo Hai Zara Khafa Khafa(Lata-Rafi), Udate Pawan Ke Sang Chalungi, Dil Bil Pyar Vyar, Kanha Kanha Aan Padi Main(all by Lata)

PATTHAR KE SANAM(1967). Another musical blockbuster from LP. LP had a clean sweep over all its competitors. Bata Du Kya Lana, Koi Nahin Hai Phir Bhi Hai(All by Lata), *Patthar Ke Sanam(Rafi), Ai Dushman-E-Jan(Asha), Mehaboob Mere(Mukesh-Lata), Tauba Ye Matawli Chal(Mukesh). All are melodious songs.

MILAN(1967). Truly, 1967 belongs to LP. LP firmly confirmed and consolidated the No 1 position in Hindi Film Music. Mass appealing and Quality music is the class example of the Milan songs. Just recollect the songsMubaraq Ho Sab Ko, Ram Kare Aisa Ho Jaye(All by Mukesh), Sawan Ka Mahina, Hum Tum Yug Yug Se, Bol Gori Bol Tera Kaun Piya(All by Lata-Mukesh), Aaj Dil Pe Koi Jor Chalata Nahin(Lata).

DO RASTE(1969). By this time LP?s music became an essential component of the every successful film. This?Golden Jubilee? hit musical movie is remembered because of super hit music. Bindiya Chamakegi(Lata), Mere Naseeb Main(Kishor), Yeh Reshmi Zulphe(Rafi), Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara(Lata-Rafi)

JEEVAN MRITYU/UPHAR/PIYA KA GHAR(1970/71/72). These year Rajashri Films released 3 films all have Music by LP. All the songs of these three films are totally different but very melodious. JAL BIN MACHHALI NRITYA BIN BIJALI(1971). Outstanding music. This V. Shantaram classic, non-star cast film will remember only because of its?Class? music. Each and every song the film has a unique composition.Man Ki Pyas Mere Man Se, Kajara Laga Ke Re Bindiya, O Mitawa O Mitwa, Jo Main Chali Phir Na Milungi(All by Lata)* Baat Hai Ek Bund Si*(Lata-Mukesh).

MERA GAON MERA DESH(1972). One more?Golden Jubilee? musical hit film. Excellent use of?Punjabi Folk?. Dholak, speciality of LP, is excellently used in all the songs. Once again all the songs are sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Sona Lai Ja Re, Mar Diya Jay Ke, Aaya Aaya Atariya Pe Koi Chor, Hi Sharmau Kis Kis Ko Batau, Kuchh Kehata Hai Ye Sawan(with Rafi).

BOBBY(1973).?Golden Jubilee? musical hit. Yet another non-star cast film. Not only star cast was new but also the male singers were new. Shailendra Sing and Narendra Chanchal was introduce to the film music by LP. Yet again the success of the film was carried away by LP?s music. The music of the film created a History.

DAAG(1973). This is Yash Chopra?s first film as a Producer and Director under the banner of?Yashraj Films?. The superb music once again.

AMAR AKABAR ANTHONY(1977). Yet another?Golden Jibilee? Musical Hit movie. Manmohan Desai?s first film as a Producer Director. Outstanding music once again. Rafi was given re-birth

UTSAV(1986).

Twenty best songs of L-P
Aug 19, 2003 05:39 PM 20661 Views

When one  music reviewer of a film magazine  asked R D Burman, while M/S Bappi Lahiri and others were at the peak in eighties,  whom he considers a complete music director, he mentioned the names of Laxmi-Pyare duo which is a great tribute to the abilities of Laxmikant-Pyarelal from a master himself. When Jaikishen of S-J duo died Raj Kapoor who entrusted all most all his film music composition to S-J, looked to L-P who composed hit music for ‘Bobby’ and ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’.

Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar(1937-1998) and Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma(Born. 1940) formed a team under music directors Kalyanji-Anandji, when Pyarelal joined K-A . Earlier they had worked as musicians and assistants to a few music directors separately. They got their independent assignment as music composers for the film ‘Parasmani’ released  in 1963 and there after never looked back until early nineties.

L-P(Laxmi-Pyare), were the composers who excelled in all forms of film songs such as classical based, folk, qawwali, mujra, western, lori, bhajan and ghazal. They teamed with lyricist Anand Bakshi and Majrooh Sultanpuri for most of their films to compose evergreen songs.

Though they composed chart busters like Ek-Do-Teen(Tezab), Ilu Ilu(Saudagar), Choli Ke Peeche(Khalnayak), Chabi Kho jaye(Bobby)  etc., my choices are folk and  classical based songs as only these songs last for ever. The so called popular(pop) ones last as long as the films are in circulation and then die down. It is very difficult to select 20 best ones from innumerable best songs, but I present below my choice(not in order of merit).

Laxmi-Pyare, The Music Directors of the Millennium
Aug 15, 2003 03:23 PM 13205 Views

When it comes to films, I feel that a particular movie is remembered for its songs. So much has been talked about the actor of the millennium, actress of the millennium but there has been no mention about the music directors of the millennium. My finger points at Laxmikant Pyarelal who have dominated film music since 1963-Parasmani down to 1998-Diwana Mastana. The duo has given some remarkable music and maintained consistency for 37 years, which is a feat in itself. LP have bagged as many as seven filmfare awards but they were capable of many more. Films like Sati Savitri, Sant Gyaneshwar, Aaye Din Baharke, Farz, Aaya Sawan Jhoomke, Mere Humdum Mere Dost, Do Raaste, Khilona, Intequam, Shor, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Bobby, Daag, Roti Kapda aur Makaan, Aasha, Main Tulsi Tere Angan Ki, Ek Duje Ke Liye, Eeshwar, Utsav, Tejab, Sursangam, Khuda Gawah, Khalnayak etc deserved to win best music award, which they missed narrowly. There was hardly any year in which they were not nominated for the best music directors award. The duo had a variety in their music whether it was classical, folk, westernised, disco, bhajan or mujraa. Most of the songs composed by them were simple, catchy, melodious and was liked by both masses and classes. Songs composed by the duo are so popular even today that they are rendered in marriages and functions by changing a few words here and there. Their music had a magic to the extent that even non-star cast films like Dosti, Sant Gyaneshwar, Lootera, Wapas, Farz, Bobby, Jal Bin Machli., Ek Duje Ke Liye, Hero, Sursangam, Prem and many more became successful because of the good music. The duo, moreover, worked with many top notch producers like Raj Kapoor, Manoj Kumar, Yash Chopra, Raj Khosla, Manmohan Desai, K Vishwanath, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Prasad Productions, Rajshri Films, Ramanand Sagar, Subhash Ghai, Shekhar Kapoor and David Dhawan etc.Though it is not easy to maintain consistency in this field, L-P were able to maintain the same for 37 years at a stretch. For this, no mere achievement, they could be named as the music directors of the millennium.

Laxmikant-Pyarelal has given the music for about 493 films.  They have served the Indian Film Music from 1963 to 1998.  It is very difficult to select only 20 songs of LP. Since I am fond of their music I have tried to select best 20 songs of LP. Of course these songs are of my choice.

As I said earlier that is a very difficult job to select only 20 songs, I think we should increase the figure up to 200 if you really want to know the depth of LP’s music.

An Admirer of L-P

In the 70s-80s, Laxmikant and Pyarelal duo were at the top of their profession. They are the most successful composers of Hindi film music.

They both started as performers in orchestras, later becoming arrangers for Hindi film music. Laxmikant learnt violin with Husnlal while Pyarelal learnt music from the Goan music teacher-Anthony Gonsalves.

Their first brake came in 1963 with the film Parasmani.

In 1964, Dosti proved to be the second turning point in their career. It fetched them their first Filmfare award.

The song'Chahunga mein tujhe'for which Mohd Rafi & lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri also won Filmfare awards. And then there was no looking back.

Here is the list of my all time favourites(personally the list had much more songs, but, well, 20 is the limit, anyways):

Sad/Sent' songs:

Satyakam-Abhi kya sunoge suna to kahoge-Lata

Bobby-Ankhiyon ko rehne de-Lata

Mere Humdam Mere Dost-Chhalkaye jaam-Rafi

Aap Aaye Bahar Ayee-Mujhe teri mohabbat ka sahara-Lata, Rafi

Satyam Shivam Sundaram-Sainyan nikas gaye-Lata, Bhupinder

Izzat-Yeh dil tum bin kahin lagta nahin-Lata, Rafi

Do Raaste-Khijan ke phool pe aati kabhi-Kishore

So here I m to tell u why I like the songs chosen by me more.

Satyakam is the film tht has left an unending impact on me for its ideals. Specially the msg Satya(the hero) gives *

I am a human being, God's most superior representative.*

In the song the lyrics to me suggests What one knows of life, even if we, humans try hard to live to our ideals, the life remains unfulfilled, for GOOD & EVIL r 2 sides of a coin. To produce something as beautiful as gold jewellery, you have to add an element of impurity, which is unacceptable to Satyakam's chief protagonist.

In Bobby I liked another song(by Chanchal)-Beshak masjid. beautiful, meaningful lyrics as he compares Dilbar(one's lover) with the GOD, yet Lataji's song won over this song, as for me True lovers can sacrifice their love for others good. They r immortal. this is more meaningful to me.

In Satyam Shivam., I like this song as the heroine is trying to explain she is not at fault nor she did fight with her love, yet he deserted her, I always hv an association of duskyness with bhupinder's voice he sounds like Sunset to me-mking me gloomy.

Soft/Romantic:

Sati Savitri-Jeevan dor tumhi sang baandhi-Lata

Daag-Mere dil mein aaj kya hai-Kishore

Jal Bin Machhli Nritya Bin Bijli-Taron mein sajke-Mukesh

Karz-Ek hasina thi ek deewana tha-Asha, Kishore, Rishi

From Sati savitri- Jeevan dor tumhi sang. I love this song as it brings me closer to my love, the words r so simple yet so romantic & sacred-my only love is everything to me kindda feeling it gives.

Daag-all the songs r gr8 but this one is the hottest with rajesh & sharmila in the lead.

Taron mein sajke I love for its words & music & ofcourse Mukeshji.

Catchy tunes:

Do Raaste-Bindiya chamkegi-Lata

Inteqaam-Aa jaane ja-Lata

Bindiya chamkegi is all time song, it makes me as naughty as Mumtaz is, even if I m in worst of moods.

Aa jaane ja is gr8 no' with its melody, the situation & ofcourse due to Helenji.

Inspiration Vs. Sacrifice:

Harishchandra Taramati-Sooraj re jalte rehna-Manna Dey

Dosti-Jaane walon zara mudke-Rafi

Sur Sangam-Aaye sur ke panchhi aaye-Pt. Rajan-Sajan Mishra(they r basically classical singers & one of my fav's)

Imtehan-Ruk jaana nahin-Kishore

Dastaan-Na tu zameen ke liye-Rafi

Khilona-Khush rahe tu sada-Rafi

Atlast but not the least, my fav category-

Sooraj re-1st-of-all, one of the Best singers Manna Da, then the song inspires me to keep going. No matter wht I hv to face I must go on like Sun & reach everyone to give the Warmth-this is the association I hv with the Sun & the song too.

In Dosti-all the songs r gr8, but this one I hv chosen for its words, the hero's only wish is to treat him like other Humans, if one is sacrificing or keeping quite doesnt mean he isn't Human. So this is wht the msg is.

Sur Sangam I liked it more for its being classical based & Pt. Rajan-Sajan Mishra, the film's theme.

Again this song Ruk jaana nahin inspires me. The msg behind it is-if its ur mistake, don't give up, better accept it at the earliest, face it & come out in flying colors. It gives me mental peace & power to analyse my actions, learn frm them & stand strong. B firm while mking decisons.

The last song Khush rahe is abt the sacrifice made. Even if others do bad intentionally or unknowingly, yet we must forgive & forget their actions. Better Wish them the Best, for life is reflection of ur actions. Wht u do, u get.(tho sometimes its wrong), but ultimately, sacrifice made by u, mks u more content & satisfied in life.

& at this happy note I will end with this beautiful song from-Milan-Ram kare kahin aisa ho jaye-Mukesh. I like this song as here again the true love is ready to sacrifice his happiness fr the sake of others good. No easy job, hmmm?

I hope this will surely be fav's of my frnds included in my trusted circle. Thank u fr giving ur precious time reading the rev'.

MUSIC OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE
Jun 09, 2003 05:01 PM 7962 Views

Laxmikant-Pyarelal, fondly called L-P, have been music director of the people and for the people. The music served by them has been mostly in folk style or the'Sugam Sangeet' style. It is neither too classical or too western. But it always has melody. They have used western instruments, western tunes but still it always appears as'Apna Music'. This is the thing that makes them great!

You can start recalling their great tunes but probably not end up!

I can go back to sixties and recall'Jyot se jyot jalate chalo' from Sant Gyaneshwar in raag Bhairavi.

In the same era, you can recall'Saawan ka mahina, pawan kare so.o.o.r from Milan in folk tune.

If I do not follow cronology, title song of Satyam Shivam Sundaram in raag Todi was simply out of this world.

I would like to take a special note of'Meri umar ke naujawanon' from Karz. This song is studded with western instruments, a tune which is certainly not traditional to India but was a roaring hit in it's time.A tune so much indianized, a background music-score so much indianized.

Jai jai shiv shankar the superb'holi' song from Dushman is to be remembered as long as holi is celebrated.

CONCLUSION: L-P ARE MUSIC DIRECTOR OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE AND(INSPIRED) BY THE PEOPLE.
