Marketing Hype vs Disappointed Experience
Mar 05, 2024 11:40 AM 38 Views

Friends and I planned a lunch outing to Tamara based on the marketing hype. Was disappointed for a few reasons. First the 5 km trail to the restaurant reception was just views of coffee which is the view across all of Coorg! Would have been more scenic with drought resistant flowering shrubs like Bougainville that would have added colour along the route. Instead boring and continuous coffee plants - nothing spectacular.

When we got to the reception location and made clear that we were there for lunch only - we were asked for detailed contact information including mobile number. Email address etc. why is that needed just to have lunch?

2 golf carts were empty and a group of women were waiting to go to the restaurant. We were told to wait. That was fine except the women were not ready to go since they were waiting for one more person.

I was frustrated with the reception staff who could have asked the women if we(group of 3) could be taken to the restaurant until their person arrived. Instead I had to raise my voice and asked the women who gladly suggested that we go ahead.

The food in the buffet was mediocre, considering this was a high priced location. The Hyderabad biriyani was good and some of the salads were ok.

The spread was similar to most restaurants and did not stand out to have made the trip to this location.

The icecream choices were fine except there were no toppings provided and had to ask for at least some chocolate sauce.

This lunch experience was a waste of time, energy and would not make it to my list of worthwhile locations to explore.

Perhaps having lived and worked in the hospitality industry overseas, my expectations were high based on the marketing hype.
