Today is the best day to write about Pankaj Udhas so I had to do it today !

Guess what (Today is his Birthday.May 17th)

The ghazal is an ancient Persian form of verse,it is generally erotic in nature, limited in the number of stanzas, and uses a recurring rhyme.

Pankaj Udhas's name needs no introduction in the world of ghazals. He is responsible for changing the world of ghazals as we know it now.He is not only a ghazal singer but also he has sung a great number of songs for Hindi movies as a playback singer.

Pankaj udhas has also done concerts in every part of the world singing his movie hits along with the ghazals.

I Happened to be at a concert ( Not at Albert Hall) But at Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle Mumbai a few days back,This was the first time ever I got to hear the Maestro performing live and tell you what, It was quite an experience. His soothing voice and the way he took the concert ,he had the crowd swaying and singing along .

What I have attempted to do here is to present (my)10 best songs sung by the Ghazal Maestro.

Who can ever forget this soul stirring,Passion igniting song from Naam.wonderfully picturised.The song will really touches a place in heart for all the people who are away from home and folk back home really really miss them.

A really sad but inspiring ghazal.Seems like a song that would be sung by a very lonely soul,Living really really alone and sad

Best line in the song Duniya bhar ki yaaden humse milne aati hain.....

Shaam dhale is soone ghar mein mela lagta hai

The meaning of the song conveys a person , unable to decide whether to go to a Mai-k-da (Place where wine is served) or to his beloveds house.

..... 'Uske ghar se utha to kidhar jaaoonga Maikada chhod doonga to mar jaoonga Sakht mushkil hon kya karoon aye khuda Ek taraf uska ghar ek taraf maikada'

5) Song - Ghoongroo Toot Gaye

This ghazal seems to depict the happiness of a girl who has been able to get the love of her life ,And is crazily declaring it to the whole world.

Best line in the song Main basi thi jiske sapnon mein...Vo ginega aub mujhe apnon mein Kehti hai meri har ungdayi....Main piya ki need chura layi

7) Song - Niklo Na Benaqab

8) Song - Saraab Cheez hi aisi hai

This songs compares wine with a most dear friend,And the poet has beutifully compared his dilemma of not being able to stop drinking wine , as it is as dear and close to him as his Friend.

9) Song - Thodi Thodi Pia Karo

This ghazal compares all the Pros and Cons of wine in a very suttle manner.

It gives many reasons why people should drink( In limit of course , as the title suggests) and should not drink!

Phoonk dale jigar ko shraab ke thodi thodi piya karo.....Ke thodi thodi piya karo. Ke thodi thodi piya karo

( wine will burn your heart... Drink in limits)

And One Ghazal which I did not include in the Ten as I did not want to compare this Master-piece with any other ghazal.

Chandi Jaisa rang Hai Tera Sone jaise Baal...Ek Tu hi Dhanwan hai gori...Baki Sab Kangal....

A wonderful poem to praise the beauty of your beloved,... Pankaj Udhas shares a wonderful real life Anecdote before singing this song in his concerts...
