Disclaimer: This is not a review of the product per se but a list of my all time favourite songs featuring Dev Anand
I was say 8-10 years old and already had the family passion of movies running in my blood. So one day I very earnestly asked my Mom, “Which Actor do you like the most?” She said in the present lot none but yes Dev Anand was my favourite at one point of time. The story which she narrated to me further made me curious. She said that Dev Anand was so handsome that girls used send him letters written with blood. The then government had banned him from wearing Black & white suit as he used to look drop dead handsome in it and created quite a stir amongst the female population. I know the story is unbelievable but at that age I thought it was true….Mom are you listening?? Please confirm where you making a fool of me???
I then started watching his movies on good old Door Darshan. I fell in love instantly with his hair style; the puffed one (I even copied it), fell in love with his shaking head, his romancing heroines...though the current crop if his movies or even the later ones (coloured) are not worth any praise but he has given us ample movies to be in love with him always.
Here I am presenting some my favourite songs featuring the Eternal Lover Boy Dev Anand. Though the music director, singers & lyricist are the backbone of these songs but Dev Anand has made them eternal….
~~Deewana Mastana Hua Dil~~
Bombai Ka Babu (1960)
Saavan lagaa, machal gae baadal, dekho. jise, huaa vahii paagal, Kaun huaa diivaanaa ...
Suchitra Sen keeps him company in this one. Dev Anand comes in late in this song…he loves Sen, can’t tell her as she thinks he is her brother. Hmmm nobody could have played the confused & in love guy better than Dev Anand. Asha & Mohd Rafi have sung this song beautifully with all nakhra’s. My all time favourite
~~Ek Ghar banaonga Tere Ghar Ke Saamne~~
Tere Ghar Ke Saamne (1963)
This one is a conversation between Nutan & Dev Anand
Kanton bhare hain lekin, chaahat ke raaste, Tum kyaa karoge dekhen, ulafat ke vaaste. Ulafat me taaz chhuute, ye bhi tumhen yaad hoga, Ulafat me taaz bane, ye bhii tumhen yaad hoga, main bhii kuchh banaaungaa tere Ghar Ke saamne….
Who will not fall in love when such words are being said…with that tilt to the head…
~~Abhi Na Jao Chod Kar Ki Dil Abhi bahar Nahin~~
Hum Dono (1961)
Picturised on Sadhna & Dev Anand
Abhi abhi to aai ho Bahaar banake chhaaii ho, Havaa zaraa mahak to le, nazar zaraa bahak to le…ye dil sambhal to le zaraa, Main thodi der jii to loon, nashe ke ghoont pii to loon…
Picturised on a lake side…this one is an ultimate for the loved ones wanting to stop their partners….I am sure most of us would have sung this song sometime….
~~**Tujhe Jeewan Ki Dor Se Baandh Liya Hai~~
*Asli Naqli (1963)
Ab zaraa koi aae to dekho to Nahin…koi behkae has ke to behkoon Nahin…tore matwali nainon ne jaadu kiya….
This one too is with the beautiful Sadhna…Picturised in a garden…he a bus driver and she a teacher….Lovely is the word for this song where they confess their love for each other.
~~Chod Do Aanchal Zamana Kya Kahega~~*
Paying Guest (1957)
Ajii aanaa dil main samaanaa, Ek dil ek jaan hain ham tum zamaanaa kyaa kahega…
This one is on Nutan & Dev Anand….ultimate in Ched Chaani. One partner not ready to accept in front of the whole world and the other all charged up to break every rules.
Till date if anyone teasingly hold your dupatta things song invariably comes on our lips.
~~Gata Rahe Mera Dil~~*
Guide (1965)
Pyar hame bhi sikhalaa degaa, garadish men sambhalanaa, kahin biite na ...
Waheeda Rehman, Dev Anand. The song, the hills Fog…Dev Anand wearing a closed collared shirt & if I remember rightly a red coloured sweater…to die for…the song captures the mood beautifully…
~~Kanchi Re Kanchi Re~~*
Hare Rama Hara Krishna (1971)
Tere haathon main hai meri Dorii jaise, Kachche dhaage se main bandhaa aayaa aise
Mushkil hai jeena, dede o hasiinaa, vaapas meraa dil modake…
I love this movie period. Dev Anand in this song is trying to woo the angered Mumtaaz. Had he sung this song to me even I would have accepted anything hehehe….
~~ Aasmaan Ki Nicche~~*
Jewel Thief (1967)
Lovely movie and Dev Anand at his romantic best with Vaijayanti Mala…
Keh do bahaaron se, aae na idhar, un tak, uthakar, ham nahin jaane vaale….
So lost in love that no disturbances wanted. I love this one because of the romance in it….great music.
~~Ankhon Hi Ankhon Main Ishara Ho Gaya~~*
C.I.D (1956)
Though this movie gave us Waheeda Rehman, it’s Shakila with whom Dev Anand romanced in the movie.
Chalte ho jhum ke, badali hai chal bhi, Nainon main rang hai, bikhare hain baal bhi kis dilaruba ka nazara ho gaya….
Picturised near a tree & lake….Dev Anand being teased by Shakila to tell the name of his beloved…I simply love this song for its music, naughtiness & obviously Dev Anand.
Have saved the Best for the Last
~~Tere Mere Sapne Ab Ek Rang Hain~~
Guide (1965)
“Laakh mana le Duniya, Saath Na yeh chootega, aake tere haathon main haath nay eh chootega….tere mere dil kaa, tay thaa ik din milanaa, jaise bahaar aane par, tay hai phuul kaa khilanaa….
He is confident, possessive…the song gives you an ultimate feeling of being loved. I love this song for its words & obviously Dev Anand.
Dev Anand these days doesn't come up with good movies or songs but its his spirit which is worth applauding. He can be summed up in one song...
"Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya......"
PS There are many more songs which I would love to add here but then the list would be never ending.
PPS Though a special mention should be made of S.D. Burman who has composed most of these songs.
PPPS These are my favourites but would love you all to share yours....
