It is best you do not even engage such dishonest sellers-you will just get abused as you found out. Recognize the obvious price scam, know the true value of such things and shop accordingly in non-tourist areas/shops where locals do. You need not be taken in by shysters; they will just gloat over another high markup sale on tourist-intended items. Most travelers do not need such warnings, and any subsequent item appraisals by legitimate expert appraisers will educate one about any monetary losses. Why be conned? Just say "NO!" in such foreign approaches or situations and keep walking away. That avoids any possible violence of sorts against you.

I was in Kerala varkala beach in March and found a number of times that tourists are charged more than the local, often quite significantly. I definitely do not like being asked to pay in$US when the rupee is the local currency, and not being American, I don't tend to carry around$US.
Much of India really seems to have three pricing structures; prices that that the locals pay, prices that Indians that are not local pay and then the high prices charged to foreigners.
Where I live, we offer tourists discounts that the locals cannot get.
The best solution is to not go to these places where they overcharge. The only way that they might lower their prices is if people don't shop there.
The visit started on a bad note with a cheating from the car parking shop who charged high costs . no complaint worked out to authorities. No tourist place can be enjoyed with a bunch of organised cheaters prowling to steal you. All are organised with the authorities
When we asked they said this is normal the prices are high in beach. So they don't care for maximum retail price as if there is no law.
YOUR RATING ON
I had a visit to varkala with my friends 2 weeks before and as we were passing through the beach side we saw an attractive shop called Searock store near the coffee temple cafe. We were so thirsty that before looking into the price menu we ordered 4 fresh limes and one mineral water bottle thinking that a standard rate will be imposed near to the mrp. But as we finished our drinks and asked for the bill we were shocked to see the total as 240 rupees!
When we inquired about the huge sum we get to know that the fresh lime was charged 50 rupees each and the mineral water costs us 40 rupees which is almost double of the original price. We realized that they manipulated the mrp and price range for a great extent but we had no other option left other than to pay that money. So friends be aware of such cheating shops before ran into it so that you don't get cheated like us!
I went to this shop sea rock in Varkala beach which is near to coffee temple café and close to Helipad in Varkala Trivandrum district -695141 Kerala state. In India
I have known that every product is selled in M.R.P(Maximum Retail Price)
But here the price of these product are been manipulated by their own price by putting a barcode label over it and they are charging double than the actual price which is really unfair and
when I asked about it they started to abuse me. They said buy if you want we didn’t call you .This is how it works They are charging 100 to 150 rupees more than the actual price . Even they charge 5Rs extra for water, Kwalityicecream they charge 50Rs when the actual price is 30Rs.all food items they are charge 100Rs to 150Rs extra for Cashew, Dates, pista etc………. The cosmetic are also priced double than the actual price
