Most memorable place.

I went to ponmudi with my family some years before. There atomoshpere was calm. We were travelled by twowheeler with my husbend and daughter. The ride was superb. there are 22 hairpin turnings.

Kallar is one of the main attraction in ponmudi. We were walked across the kallar. ho it was a nice experiance. the water are very cool and the small rocks are clearly visibledfrom under water. many monkeys are sited along the way. my daughter was excited. There hotel and accomadation charges are too heavy. Safety measures are average. the rockes are always slippery. other wise it is a very good tourist place.

A True Green Desert

I have visited Ponmudi twice and never found such a place of unrestricted peacefulness. A person who truly enjoy green, nature and scenic beauty will for sure find Ponmudi as an unique experience. Trivandrum is a city mainly known for beaches and temples. But just 2 hours drive from city will take you to one of the highest peak of Western Ghats.

As per travel and comfortability is concerned, one can take their own vehicle or take a KSRTC bus from Tampanoor Bus Stand, Trivandrum starting from 5 30am which will again take u to the top near the viewpoint. There are very few restruants here including a KTDC cafe and restaurant. Again the food is good. Also if you are looking for stay, check out the KTDC resorts along the hill.

You can find that there are 2 types of Ponmudi. One would be the clear one where you can clearly have a good view of surrounding scenic beauty. The other one is misty one where its very difficult to just have a view 10 meter from where you stand. Both are awesome though.

From what I had experienced, there are 2 sides for Ponmudi. One where all the people visit and roam around, up and down having a grass land hike. Which again is very difficult to find in other hill stations. Also there is another side to Ponmudi hills where you can explore by going on a small trekking trip. You need to take a ticket for this and you will be provided with a guide. The cost was Rs 800 for 8 members when I last visited one year back. You will be taken through a forest, climbing as you go by. Once you reach the other side it again clears to a row of hills. This part is even more beautiful and you would feel that you are walking through clouds.

Another unique feature of Ponmudi hill station is that you would not find the climate very cold even though there is continous chilling wind blowing. Hence it becomes a excellent place for all family members to visit.

There are 3 or more hills to climb here. Climb one and while you enjoy the calmness of nature, you can feel your mind at peace.

I have visited ponmudi last month and it was an experiamce. Being from kerala it took about 100kms to reach ponmudi. And the view from there is just breathtaking. There is loot of mountains to climb and explore. And the climate there is just chilling. The curvy roads are just brilliant for bike riders to courner. And it passes through jungle. Its the perfect spot for photography. Do visit.

Awesome Hill Station In Clouds.

I had visited ponmudi 1 years ago before. This time I went along with my family members. Ponmudi is one of the best hill stations I can never forget. It is a waterfalls spot. But you will enjoy the forest and trekking more than you enjoy the waterfalls. The most beautiful thing about Ponmudi is that you gotto cross a river in the forest to reach the waterfalls. The water will be moving with moderate speed. Ponmudi waterfalls is inside the forest, approximately 1.5km far from the place where vehicles could reach. From there, you have to walk to the waterfalls in the forest. Sounds exciting, isn't it? Well, it feels even more exciting.

This Hill station guest house is really bad with very limited choice of food. Advance notice on food needs to be conveyed. The rooms are shabby and beds stink.

About Safety - Sad thing is that you wont be allowed to swim in the waterfalls. Its too risky it seems. Life is about taking risks.

Soak in the scenic beauty and feel refreshed in pure nature. I’ll definitely go again if I have the opportunity.

In the lap of the western Ghat, amidst tea plantation, lush green hills, waterfalls lies Ponmudi.

This place is easily accessible from Trivandrum which is at 61 km from pon Mudi, The kallari river flows through the valley and that is a sight to behold, this place also famous for trekking. If you want a break from mundane life then Ponmudi is a place where you got to be.

This place is accessible only through road, it is located 61 km from Trivandrum main city and it takes around two hours to reach, by road it is a beautiful ride.

The lush greenery, the rubber plantation and the hide and seek of the clouds offer much of the beauty, the best time to be there in Ponmudi is early morning, talking about the local sightseeing while you are en route to Ponmudi, you can stop at Meenmutty falls which is a 10 km trek through dense forest.

Staying options are available through KSTDC. you can book your accommodation online it is advisable to pre-book your accommodations and try to have your own or rented vehicle if you are planning to stay over.

However, a slight word of caution try not to go around during the night and if are planning a day trip it is advisable that you reach early and leave early.

Ponmudi: Golden peak of kerala
Mar 16, 2017 06:59 PM 9759 Views

Ponmudi is, indeed, one of the most beautiful hill station in kerala, I was taken aback by its scenic beauty and serenity of the place . unlike other hill station that are either over crowded with people, ponmudi is calm and peaceful, there are not many shops and hotels

if I had to put in one line, I would say ponmudi is not a place to tourists: it's a place for travelers, if u happen to visit ponmudi, make sure you go all the way to cliff, and take some time around to gaze the beautiful open farms .there are no points in the hill station, it's just the experience that's amazing.

you could literally feel and watch the clouds floating besides you, the air is amazingly cool and if you happen to go around October-December, you can also feel the mild drizzle.

make sure u wear shoes with rubber sole, or the ones that have solid grip .Also, if you are too tightly wound, take an umbrella(i advice against it though), have enough water, since the uphill climb can get tiring .

you can hire a cab or if you are in a group, you can get a local bus from trivandrum station, it takes around 2 to 2.5 hours to reach ponmudi depending on the weather and traffic.

Ponmudi - Trivandrum

Every year when I visit Trivandrum, I make it a point to go to Ponmudi, which is also called the Golden Peak is a Hill Station. We have to travel about 60km fom Trivandrum city to reach there. This Hill station belongs to the Western Ghats at an altitude of around 1000m.

The climate is pleasant throughout the year. I like the many tea gardens situated here. The place is so famous for its natural beauty and is covered with thick forest. The Kallar river flows through here which is very beautiful.Nearby there is the Peppara Wildlife Santuary and many trekking paths. There is a deer park and cottages made of wood and stone.

Another famous place nearby is the Meenmutty falls is nearby situated.Another main attraction in the region is Agasthyarkoodam. This is one of the highest peaks in the Western Ghats and highest peak at 1868 m. This peak can be accessed only with the permission of the Forest Department.Travelling through the narrow winding road were really exciting. We always start early in the morning so that we don't miss the beautiful sunrise. There are also hotels of KTDC so that the tourists can stay. But we normally return in the evening as its just one's days tour. But one can never forget the beautiful place and it always calls us back, we feel we should visit again and again.

Dreamland...
Jun 01, 2006 12:53 PM 11126 Views

My hometown is Kerala and I belong to Trivandrum. This hill station was one of the places which I wanted to visit long back.and my dream came true last year when we had visited the ponmudi during the monsoon season. The place was covered completely with down lying clounds and was giving us a feeling that we are visity the heaven. The trip up was very good as we had booked a gypsy for the same. The hairpin turns during the journey seemed very dangerous as it was raining heavily and the road was looking very slipery. The vehicle was moving very slowly as we had asked the driver to do so since we wanted to enjoy the greenary around. Ohh!!! what a scenery!!!! On the way up we halted at a tea packing factory which was partially functioning. This also helped us know the exact system involved in the pakaging of tea. When we reached the top most point of Ponmudi, the weather was lovely. The clouds were kissing us the cool breeze which was blowing sent shivers down our spine but yet the entire feeling was very good. The view of the foot of the hill station was mesmerising. The feeling we got was as if we were sitting on a cloud and then looking down. The fog kept coming in and going every 5 minutes. This made me think weather GOD was playing hide and seek with us. One moment there and the other moment gone. After an hour of enjoying the cool breeze we headed down back to our starting point.

Our journey down way was much more memorable as it had already turned dark and with GOD's grace the headlights of our vehicle went off. We tried our level best to make it work and also went hunting for help but for no avail. We had to come back without the headlight working. The journey now looked very dangerous as the danger of skiding doen fro the edge of the road or meeting with an accident with any vehicle coming from the opposite side was quite possible.

Somehow we manage to reach down but the trip to double the time it took to reach on top as the vehicle was moving dead slow due to the risk involved in travelling fast.

When down I reliased the journey was a complete one as it involved fun, beauty, relaxation, adventure and danger.

Ponmudi in God's Own Country
May 31, 2006 01:03 PM 11449 Views

We all Know That Kerala in India '' God's Own Country''. Ponmudi the hill station is near (60 KM) from the capital of kerala Trivandrum. It was a wonderful day that I stayed there for a official meeting.

But the next time I should go with my girlfriend, because the climate of that area is unforgottable. Anyone can Go there because the Airport, Railway station are near too.

I had visited many hill stations, but here I feel the privacy and the chillness that I like most.

But I was afraid about the purchasing that was/will puchase in trivandrum. Because there is no shops and nothing else.

Ponmudi the very fantastic place for stay 2 days for a honeymoon trip. The Privacy is very Important for the vacation that is enough in ponmudi.

When I came there I met a man who said about the hills that there is a place in Ponmudi. No one was came out from that place. That is a very dangerous place. But he dont know about what is there.

By the next time I should go there and visit that dangerous place with some security. I am very interested about these things.

After that I will write my review on this issue.

bye bye
