In every house there will be dvd or cd players in their house . Maximum number of people don’t have an idea that lens should be cleaned and should protect from dust . Those gives extra life for their lens and good value for money spend in purchasing  of dvd products  Always  have a CD or DVD inside your player or recorder or whatever it is.

It will prevent the dust settling directly into the lens. Avoid dust at anycost. Don't place ur recorders or players near the windows. Try to cover your player but only when not in use. If u cover ur player while playing it may get hot without ventilation. Dont use lens cleaners that is available on the shops with a little brush attached to the CD. Its very injurious to yous lens and almost ends ur player or recorders life prematurely Always place the CD WITH ITS REFLECTIVE FACE DOWN. Many have misconception that the reflective part is very important.

Its just a protective plastic layer and nothing else Dont keep many CD's or DVD's layered together. Dont stick anything on the CD cause it may spoil the balance of the CD or DVD which will lead to player or recorder's rotating mechanism to misfunction and sometime will cause the CD or DVD to break inside.if all this precatutionary measure is taken than we could protect the lens for a long time

Dont ignore her!

CD's and DVD's have replace all form of video audio and data mediums. Its important to maintain both the medium and its hardware to make it go on and on. Lets see what to do and not with ur CD, DVD players recorders and to the medium. Go on and read all the points cause all are very important that u should know.

Do's & Donts:

1)Always have a CD or DVD inside your player or recorder or whatever it is. It will prevent the dust settling directly into the lens. You can get dummy CD's which is ideal to use.

2)Avoid dust at anycost. Don't place ur recorders or players near the windows. Try to cover your player but only when not in use. If u cover ur player while playing it may get hot without ventillation.

3)Dont use lens cleaners that is available on the shops with a little brush attached to the CD. Its very injurious to yous lens and almost ends ur player or recorders life prematurely. If ur lens gets dirty call up a service engineer and let him clean. He will also remove all the dust from the tray and the circuit boards(once the lens is dirty its a sign tat the player or recorder needs a service not the lens alone).

4)If she is not opening dont pull her out forcefully. It may cause permanent damage. If the tray is struck service it. Dont use keys or screw drivers to pull her out.

5)Always place the CD WITH ITS REFLECTIVE FACE DOWN. Many have misconception that the reflective part is very important. Its just a protective plastic layer and nothing else. Its the label side is which we should take care of. A scratch in the label will wipe of the data at that point while nothing will happen at the bottom. So place ur CD or DVD's upright placing the reflective face down on ur table or case.

6)Use quality non water based markers while writing on CD or DVD's. Make sure it doesnt have a sharp tip which will leave an impression on the data layer and spoil it.

7)Dont keep many CD's or DVD's layered together.

8)If u use pouches make sure the material is soft else it will scratch everytime when u take or replace ur CD.

9)If CD or DVD gets dirty wipe it in either vertical or horizontal motion with a clean cloth but not circular. Its a general habit tat ppl clean it circularly cause it is round. The data is writen in the CD or DVD in a circular patern so it wont create a much of a difference if a scratch is created in horizontal pattern while circular scratches will cause a severe damage.

10)Dont stick anythin on the CD cause it may spoil the balance of the CD or DVD which will lead to player or recorder's rotating mechanism to misfunction and sometime will cause the CD or DVD to break inside.

Even though a CD recorder/player uses a highly focused beam of light to read/write data, unlike the record/phonograph players of yesteryears(!) the lens which beams that light can still attract dust or dirt. Over a period of time, whenever you open your CD disc tray, dust particles tend to settle down inside and start to then interfere with the beam of light leading to either the CD is not read by the player at all or skipped songs!

There are many CD lens cleaning disc out there in the market. Most will have a kind of a small hair brush stuck onto the playing side of the disc. Like a regular CD, the disc put inside the player/recorder, it is spun and the lens gets cleaned. There might be options available which let you hear music while this cleaning happens. Some even have a solution bottle, invariably a variation of a quick evaporating alcohol, which you need to dab on the brush before putting the disc in the player/recorder. These cleaning disc work fine and you need to periodically use them for a long lens life. If you can access the lens you could even clean it with a soft lint free/chamois cloth. BUT please make sure that the CD player/recorder is turned off and the mains plug is disconnected form the wall a/c output socket!!

A small vaccum cleaner is handy for cleaning the tray area or the area around the lens, if accessible.

Needless to say keeping the cd player/recorder in a relatively dust-free area is of great help in prolonging the life of the lens. Also try not to keep them close to any air-conditioning units since condensation can form on the lens and again ruin the path of light. Remedy...cleaning with the cleaning disc or cloth. Same applies to people owning CD players and living in areas with high humidity. Conversely do not keep it anywhere in direct sunlight as well or close to a window, which is open for most part of the day :-)

NB - In the case of a CD Recorders, please remember that the lens has a shelf life in terms of how many hours the laser can be used to burn a CD. Hence try not to shorten its life by playing regular CD's in it. Use it primarily for recording CD's only.

Sometimes the problem is not the player or the recorder but the CD itself. Scratches or dust makes the task of the lens much more difficult. There are CD cleaners in the market, different from CD LENS cleaners, which basically have a lint free brush and some clear liquid to wipe the disc with. Please do the cleaning, lightly, in a circular fashion, along the groove. Personally I have used light soapy water to clean some and got them as good as new. Warning - no granular soapy stuff like detergents. They will only scratch the surface more. In humid climate CD's are prone to catching fungus and over a period of time the protective coating starts to either peel off or wear off as well. Store them in a cool, air-tight place for longer life.

Happy music listening!
