They Know Nothing and Do Nothing! Beware!

Most pathetic experience ever with any computer-service professional, here's an account of what happened:


My Dell laptop stopped booting one day, it was out of warranty and 2 years old, so I searched the internet for nearby services. I came across Madhu Infotech Pvt Ltd, Domlur, Bangalore, and called them, mostly because of their proximity to my location.


Madhu Infotech sent a person home to inspect my laptop - I was impressed and happy that I didn't have to run around with my laptop, but the misery had actually unknowingly started!


Mr. Soleman came home, opened my laptop, struggled at first to disconnect keypad connections, etc., but somehow managed after tinkering a bit. Then he took out a small blower (looked like a cycle-rickshaw horn to me) from his bag, and started blowing here and there. Then put the cover back and tried starting, obviously failed! Then he again opened the cover, and blew. Then closed, started, failed. This went on for about 20 mins - then he closed the cover, made a sorry face, and said "sir, motherboard gone it seems". I was surprised, how did he find out by just blowing some dust?? I was obviously not convinced! So I told him that I would like to take a second opinion, may be from a Dell authorized service center. To which he said, "OK, but you need to pay Rs. 250 for the inspection". Rs. 250 for blowing air into my laptop for 20 mins?? I asked him what is my 2nd choice. He said he would take my laptop away to his office, they would check it, and let me know in 2 days. I did that, because I didn't want to pay him Rs. 250 for what he just did. So he took my laptop away.


3 days went by - no news of my laptop. I called the operator, she transferred me to someone who had no clue, gave me a couple of other numbers to call. I tried, the second number was answered, and the lady said, I don't know, but let me find out and come back to you in 10 mins. I got busy with work, and no one called back the entire day.


Next day again - I call them and they don't have an update. They don't know what the problem is, and they don't know how long will it take to know that. But they do promise you that they would call you back in 10 mins - which they never end up doing.


On the 5th day - I call them. They say "sir, motherboard problem, we need to replace". OK, go ahead, how long will it take? You know the answer now - "we'll let you know in 10 mins"!


On the 6th day - I call them. They lady who was communicating with me all this time, Rini, happened to go on an indefinite medical leave, and I was in a bigger soup now. No one to promise me a call back in 10 mins.


I called up managers, technicians, Soleman again, I tried every way - nothing!


After 8 days, I get a call for the first time from Madhu Infotech. News - my motherboard is gone, and it needs to be replaced! Thank you!! I was dying to know that! Then what?? They tell me they need to get a motherboard from Delhi and it will take 3 days. "sir, your laptop is old, and this model of motherboard is no longer available, so we have to get it from a vendor in Delhi" - did they expect to replace the motherboard in a new laptop?? OK, go ahead, just do it, damn it!!!!


Another 5 days go by - I call them, "sir, motherboard from Delhi didn't work, now we have to get one from Mumbai". What?? OK, how long will this take? "1 week sir". OK, go ahead!!


8 days later - I call them. "sir, we are unable to resolve the issue, we will return you the laptop, sorry for the inconvenience caused".


So, what is the moral of this story? Madhu Infotech employs incapable, substandard, dumbos and have no defined system in place! So, if you want them to sit on your laptop for 3 weeks and lay eggs, please go ahead try them - if not, please try another route, do not call Soleman home! If you do, you are doomed! Beware!
