Grand Palace Hotel & Spa, Salem, Yercaud Reviews

Chennai India
Days on your own at GRT Nature trails
Jan 23, 2011 07:44 PM 6597 Views

GRT Nature Trails is located exactly on the 20th Hairpin bend of the Salem-Yercaud road. As far as location, you couldn't ask for a better spot since this offers what I would probably consider as the best view overlooking Salem.

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud is constructed with a great deal of planning on the cliff, each room offers you something different from the other...But of all, I would probably consider the "Panorama View rooms" especially the top ones (403 and 404) to be the best. They have an expensive balcony and offer you one of the best views in the resort.

The other two (401 and 402) come with a little bit of spice with glass flooring in some areas including the bathrooms (some people may find it a little iffy). We stayed there for 3 nights and 4 days with two little kids and never felt out of place or boring even for a moment.

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud has so much to offer both with space and with service. What tops it all is the attitude of the staff overall (especially the ones in the restaurant Salem heights), always ready to serve you. A good example what, when I called up the room service at 5 am to ask for milk & tea and I had someone knocking my door with a smiling face in the next 20 minutes with hot milk and tea and some complimentary cookies.

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud No connectivity: The food is amazing and I would thank the chef Sanjay especially for the quality of the food he and his team churn out. A couple of points for the management to consider. There is absolutely no coverage so please don't bother with your mobile phones (except if you are a Cellone customer).

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud Though some would consider a forced break... The problem compounds considering that the wired connectivity (through BSNL) wasn't very stable in the 3 days we stayed in.b. The swimming pool is in a pretty nice location, but considering that we are talking about a hill station, I would have expected some weather control...

The pool was pretty chill even during the mid-day and I had to get the kids out without giving them enough time in the pool. Overall the experience was amazing, We hope to be back there very soon

Heaven near Bangalore Grand Palace Hotel
Sep 12, 2010 12:57 PM 6279 Views

I visited this place this year on 1st January along with my family and friend's family. It was a phenomenal experience at Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud as this place is overall a nice package. Spending some time in this place is as good as covering entire Yercaud. It is located on the edge of the Yercaud Plateau. Entire Sales city, the approach road to yercaud is visible from here. Valley view is excellent.

Yercaud is 4-4.5 hr drive from Bangalore; straight highway drive, no hassles at all. 4-lane toll highway till Salem and hill road of 40KM from there. This hotel is just on the entry of Yercaud.

Yercaud doesn’t have many things to do - Lake, Boating, Hill View from Child Seat, Ladies Seat, Gents Seat, Kiliyur Waterfall.

Lake and its boating are horrible. However, people do give time there as nothing else to do in Yercaud. Kiliyur waterfall has good trekking route. No stairs, but slippery if it rains. One needs to be careful with kids. With just adults, it is a trek of 45-60 mins while going down. The place is good. However, the slippery route makes it'adventurous'.

Hill view from Child/Gents/Ladies seat is same as from this hotel, Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud. Hotel's rooms are very good. From the respective Balcony, entire Salem city is visible through a beautiful valley. The night view is also equally good. Rooms interiors are 4-star quality. Great fun. Night campfire is very soothing. There is a bar available. BarbeQ was missing.

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud Buffet: Buffet breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are very good and completes the overall joy of a weekend.

Getting a reservation at this hotel is very difficult as there were hardly 30 rooms. They were constructing more. I hope it has improved now. Cost of buffet is a bit on the higher side but one doesn’t mind. Mobile signals are extremely weak.

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud recommendation: Overall it is an excellent place to be in.

Bangalore India
Worst Experience in Hotel Grand Palace Yercaud
Feb 15, 2010 04:29 PM 5179 Views

We have started our trip to Yercaud after collecting sufficient inputs from my friends, this place is just to relax as there won't be many places to visit. Due to this, we were very particular about the hotel to be booked.

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud How did I understood the presence:I have found this hotel on the web. Hotel pics were decent showing spacious rooms and nice view from the hotel.

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud Self-Acclaimed 3 star hotel: This hotel claims to be 3 start hotel. We have opted for a lake view room ( my first mistake) and paid a decent amount.

We reached the hotel in the afternoon, found that Yercaud is really warm during the daytime. Hotel was up on the hill and looked decent from outside. I have completely disliked my room in first look as I have only the parking view from my room and I could barely see the lake. There was no balcony in the room. Room was crumbled with furniture and had no A/C.

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - YercaudThe bed-sheets were stained and torn. It seems room was not cleaned properly even floor had dirt. It was just a switch-off for my holiday mood. Unfortunately, the hotel was packed and there were no rooms available to change or upgrade. Since we had no choice we have started our day but worse was yet to come... We have ordered sandwiches in evening snacks, it took 45-50 mins for them to prepare 2 sandwiches and tea... not sure why? there were only 3-4 guests in the Restaurant. Even dinner arrived after more than 45-50 mins in the night. I felt we need to place an order for dinner during lunch itself.

Next day morning, there was a breathtaking view in the valley as it was misty all over. I have ordered for morning tea in my room. Surprisingly tea has not arrived until one hour and it was time for breakfast. Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud canceled the order out of frustration:I have canceled an order and gone for breakfast and calmed me down as my frustration level was rising. During the daytime, we have decided to go out and have our lunch in some other hotel (Shevroys). I found their restaurant staff very efficient. It would have been bliss for Grand palace if they have even 50% of efficiency. I visited Cloud 9 Lounge of hotel grand palace in the evening. Same story drinks arrived in 50 mins after 2 reminders and dinner after 1.5 hrs don't remember how many reminders.

Grand Palace Hotel & Spa - Salem - Yercaud Speaking to the person in charge also doesn't help: We were happy that we are leaving this place tomorrow afternoon. I have spoken to the restaurant manager who seems to be a very decent fellow. I have observed a change in service the next day during morning tea and breakfast but I am sure they are not that good regularly but somehow they want to get rid of our regular complains.

We were leaving the hotel on a positive note. When we have asked for a hotel bill. Much to my surprise, they have added previous day morning tea amount which they have never delivered.

Their staff was adamant to say they have delivered this order. The staff of the hotel shaved and tossed the money saying he will pay this amount. Their manager was a mute spectator and allowed his staff to behave this way. It was too much and frustrating for us that they do not honor their guests at all. There is no hospitality. On top of this when you complain saying that your service is pathetic they will say "Thank You" instead of saying "sorry".

Excellent hotel in a tiny hill station
Feb 07, 2010 12:18 PM 6530 Views

We reached GRT Nature Trails hotel Yercaud around 1:00 pm after 4 hours drive from Bangalore on 30th Jan. We expected cooler weather since it was still winter all over India. But on reaching Yercaud, we felt that our trip was waste since it was as hot as in Chennai.

On reaching, the person at the reception told us that the rooms are being cleaned, so we can roam around for a while or have our meals and come back. We checked out the hotel facilities for a while and got disappointed earlier because it was so hot around. After around 15 minutes, we got our room. This was a real surprise. We had taken the valley view room, that is the cheapest in their categories. The room was huge with most facilities that a 4 star hotel can offer. It had a bigger than king size bed, LCD TV, coffee maker, wardrobe, locker, writing table, coffee table, room heater, etc. The LCD TV was connected to Airtel DTH that presented most channels. The bathroom was also big sized. They could have provided a bath tub. Their penthouse room has a jacuzzi in the bathroom and a lawn instead of balcony. The room had a decent sized balcony where you can relax in the evenings. Afternoons are too hot to sit in the balcony.

In the valley view rooms, they had artificial waterfall coming to the doorstep. They used to switch it on at around 7:00 pm daily. They have advertised a lot about they skywalk (sky roca). I was too excited to see that but was quite disappointed to actually walk on it. It is too small a walk but may excite others. The Salem Heights restaurant had a decent variety of items in the menu. They give complimentary breakfast which was ok. They could provide more items in the breakfast but I think there are too few rooms to cook more items.

Other items in the menu are quite expensive as compared to other hotels around. But the ambiance in Salem Heights was very good. They have a bar called Salem Rocks which was too small but artistic. The bar was decently priced and they had 20% discount accompanied by free chef's snack of the day along with the drinks. They could also serve liquor in the open lawn near the bar. It was a nice experience to have drinks in open air in the evenings. It gets too cold in the evenings and nights. From the open lawn, you get very nice view of the Salem city. They also had indoor games like carrom, chess, table tennis, etc.

Overall, it was one of our best holidays in this tiny hill station.

Cool mist @ the Nature trails

Yercaud always had a special place in my heart. Every trip to Yercaud has been memorable. Whether you intend to hike, or just chill, this place offers it all.

This December, we stayed in Yercaud for just 2 days in Sky Roca. We were pleasantly surprised at how perfect it turned out to be.

GRT Nature Trails(Sky Roca) is located just before you enter town. Its located in a cliff facing a valley and hence offers great views from various vantage points.

The architecture is wonderful - pleasing colors, built along the contours/levels etc.

I loved the grey and blue theme throughout the campus.

Rooms:

We stayed at the Valley view room with a balcony. The room was absolutely gorgeous. A huge king size bed and a flat screen TV. A wonderfully designed bathroom. And of course, the balcony with amazing views. Be aware that monkeys are a menace and you always have to keep the balcony doors closed and never take food outside. Also, they do allow you to borrow some movies to watch in your room. And they had some fine collection of books.

Service:

The service was excellent. Most of the staff seemed very young and happy, and their service was prompt.(Please note, we went during off season)

Food:

We pretty much ate all our meals here. The complimentary breakfast was adequate.

The bar'Salem Rocks'(what a cool name!) serves beer and some hard liquor. The prices were at par with a pub in Chennai. The ambience of the bar was impressive and they served some snacks and appetisers. The food was decent( we mostly had some appetizers and some sandwich)

Site:

You could endlessly ramble about the campus, for the place has plenty to offer. The skywalk is an interesting addition to add some excitement to your leisurely stroll.

You could walk up multiple levels and savor the views(and the cool mist).

The site has plenty of birds(we saw whiskered blubuls, coppersmith barbets, paradise flycatcher, oriental whiteeye and more!). Be sure to carry your binoculars if the avian creatures interest you, or the hotel rents binoculars for around 400 Rs for a few hours.

If you are visiting Yercaud for the n'th time and all you want to do is relax, this is the place for you. You could spend a few days just being inside the hotel complex and enjoy your stay. A nice cup of chai and the cool mist hitting your face - priceless.

Stay at Sky Roca
May 06, 2009 01:11 PM 5668 Views

We visited Yercaud in May and decided to stay at the Hotel Sky Roca, a 3- star hotel, owned by the GRT group. The hotel is officially named GRT Nature Trails. The hotel is located at the 20th hair pin bend just 2 kms before Yercaud town and lake. Our main reason for choosing this hotel was the fantastic view and the ambience this hotel had to offer. Being a 3-star hotel, naturally everything is priced high. But when you compare it to other places, the rates are value for money (Rs.3500/-, in the off-season there would be a 1000/- discount) .

Ambience is good, the front office staff are very courteous and helpful. Check in was smoothly done and shown to our room. The Valley view rooms have a balcony with a lawn and a sit out. You can get a magnificient view of the Shevaroys mountain range from your sit out. This is the best part of the entire hotel stay. It is worth splurging on a star hotel for this view alone. You can sit and watch the hills, you can watch monkeys play in the tress below and you can see the ghat roads far away, where you can see the vehicles driving in. And at night, you get a great view of the city of Salem with its lights on.

The maintenance of the hotel is great, room maintenance is good, there is a mini bar, DVD player, room heater(for winter) in the room. Housekeeping is prompt and all staff have a great customer friendly attitude.

The main feature of Hotel Sky Roca is the Sky Walk. When you go to the terrace, you see a lawn and a sit out with benches. Connecting the terrace with the restaurant is a bridge with wooden planks and a part of the bridge is made entirely of glass. You get a thrill, when you walk over the glass section and can see the valley below and you get a feeling of doing a tight rope walk mid-air. Youo wont get tired walking over this bridge any number of times. And don't worry, the highest safety standards are in place.

Other attractions at the hotel are:

1) A library with books, computers with internet facility (though the connection was done because of a BSNL problem) and DVD's of movies (only Tamil movies though!)

2) The hotel has thoughtfully provided cycles at the entrance for kids to have an enjoyable time.

3) There is a indoor play area, where you can sit with your family and play Scrabble, Chess, Carrom or any of the other board games.

4) Just sitting out on the terrace is itself a great attraction

5) There is a tree house in the adjoining plot, where you can enjoy the evening breeze in the sit out.

6) The elevator with glass walls allows you to get a great view as you move up to the terrace.

The restaurant of the hotel is called Salem Heights. Breakfast is complimentary and the hotel provides a vast breakfast buffet. Buffet is available for lunch too, but as in all star hotels are overpriced (Rs.275 + taxes). But the only downside is service, which is not upto the mark. Service time for al-a-carte orders is very slow. And the food taste also is just average. That is the only downside of this hotel.

If you want to enjoy a relaxing vacation at Yercaud, then Sky Roca is the place to go. Yercaud is not a very costly place, so the money you can save on other expenses can be splurged here. Overall, a great experience, which I would recommend to others.

Great place to stay- near perfection
Oct 29, 2008 12:38 PM 4621 Views

Place:

Yercaud itself is a small place to lazy around- at least to me. I agree there are few places to visit- A temple, the lake, some points (Pagoda etc.) and some seat (Lady's, Children, Gents).... but we preferred to stay at our rooms and view the clouds attacking our hilltop. (For those who do not know, the 'seats' are nothing but view-points.

Hotel:

The hotel was very easily located.. by its address itself.. it is just after the last (the 20th) hairpin bend. Front desk was courteous and gladly extended their cooperation when I wanted to see their special rooms with private lawns/ glass walls/ glass floors! https://hoteltheskyroca.com/ Yes, booking is recommended. I had booked through travelguru.

It has a Library + Playcorner + Browser. Best thing I liked is the Skywalk- see their website to get a feel. They also had arrange a lot of crackers for us the guests.

Even our low-end room was pretty good, large for our 2.5 member family! It also had a DVD player attached to the TV. (No, we didn't use it) Like all other rooms, it offered unobstructive view to Salem. We really wanted to spent most of our time lazying in the hotel.

Food:

But our attempt to have lunch was not so satisfying. The items were more or less average, if not lower. They were not worth the value of money. Definitely, they need to work on the cook.

The staff was very kind to accommodate our 7 yr. old into our quota of dish during all (twice) our visits to the restaurant. But, this was not motivating enough for us to look for better food elsewhere in the town.

Service:

Very good. Of course, if you are familiar to Indian hotels, this one requires less push to get the things done.

Finally...

Would definitely recommend this to family travellers. If the food does not suit you (I have seen some reviews where people are satisfied with it), go to the town and have a look.

On top of the clouds..
Apr 08, 2008 09:18 PM 7062 Views

SkyRoca is a pretty new resort situated a few miles ahead of Yercaud town. The resort is situated right after the 20th(and last) hairpin bend and is aesthetically very pleasing. The rooms are large and spacious, and I believe all rooms have a balcony overlooking the valley. The entire resort, in general, has been built thoughtfully and beautifully. If you visit the resort during the right season(as we did), you can be a spectator for moving clouds and fog that encompasses the entire resort.

The open terrace on top as well as the Skywalk are interesting attractions for the resort. Walking on the glass floored Skywalk at night was exciting!

The room prices at the resort are reasonable - considering the services offered, but other services are charged quite heftily. Still, I feel it is fine considering the resort's excellent class. The front desk served food(good food, I might add) at all odd times of the day.

The only issue we had was with a front desk executive, who was a bit rude to us. Other executives were polite and well-mannered, and the weekend that we spent in Yercaud turned out to be very relaxing and enjoyable, mainly due to the excellent resort we chanced upon!

The Sky Roca - The best place to stay in Yercaud
Mar 06, 2008 04:27 PM 9299 Views

The resort is relatively new; it opened only around December 2007. It is tastefully done with almost every thing one need and more on a holiday. The rooms are very spacious and every room has a view of the Salem city below. The resort has 23 rooms but around 45000sqft of built up area, which means there is a lot of open spaces. The deck just out side the restaurant gives an amazing view at night and the SKY WALK was very famous with us as well children. The promoter of this resort is Mr. V. Sekar; a very famous coffee planter in Yercaud has built this place with a lot of effort. Taking minute details into consideration so has to keep the guests happy all the time. The staff is so well trained, polite and always smiling.

They are ready to attend to u at any point of the day or night. We visited the place for our 5 th wedding anniversary celebration, and I just inquired if I could get a black forest cake, to be delivered at 12 am sharp to my room with 5 candles. I wanted to surprise my husband but was not sure if I’d get a cake in Yercaud with the following specifications which were too demanding. Can u believe the manager made a quick phone call and agreed for the cake to be delivered as required. There are three boys at the front office Mr. Sridhar, Mr Vijay, and Mr. Dhanraj (who I remember ordered the cake) they work in shifts for day and night. They coordinated among themselves…

they ordered the cake, arranged for the candles and it was there in my room at 12 am. And all this was done in utter secrecy. My husband was surprised to see the cake. And I was happy to see him so surprised the front office people and the staff made our anniversary celebration possible and in a very pleasing way we both would like to thank them and the staff who were so kind and polite (to my demanding wishes) The restaurant here is the best in Yercaud…with good food which looks like is specially prepared for u, unlike in shevoroys we had our lunch there on the first day after driving for 6 long hours tired and hungry We had to wait there for almost 30 min for some one to take the order and when the food arrived we were just trying somehow to eat it shevroys boast of a catering college… but the food was not good enough they need to improve.

One more thing about this restaurant. UNCLE SAM’S at the SKY ROCA is even if you are hungry at night say 1 am they are ready to serve you something for your MIDNIGHT FEAST with a smile Sounds lovely and too good to be true some more to come. Now listen !!!!!!!!!! And when we were ready to check out. I inquired how much I had to pay for the cake and the extra service that they provided a voice interrupted and inquired about the occasion. For the cake. We casually replied that it was our anniversary he just asked the manager to put the cake charges in the office account and refused to accept the money for the cake we were surprised and actually didn’t know what to do or say there was a man who barely knew us he didn’t have to do any such favors for us (his staff had done enough) its his kindness, sensitivity and a BIG HEART which completely won our hearts…this person was Mr. Sekar we d like to thank him again for the lovely stay we had !!!!!

The atmosphere and the vibes one gets in this resort are so pure and pristine…you are always calm and can enjoy and absorb the beauty of the mountains because u don’t have to tax your mind with other problems like. Where would we go to eat. Would we get food at this hour. Would they return the laundry in time.

The staff the back office people and the restaurant takes care of all this with an eagerness that doesn’t look like it is forced on them. They do it because they want you to be happy and they succeed in this it is the brainchild of the promoter Mr. Sekar who has taken pains to set such standards. I have written lots and actually have no complains but to sum it up and excellent place…to stay the rates are not very steep. For the kind of rooms u are getting. For almost similar rates.

The other rooms we saw were pathetic with insects in room stuffy rooms and dirty sheets and drapes we had taken another couple(our friends) with their daughter along with us and even they agreed with us completely they enjoyed their stay and our anniversary thoroughly…. SKY ROCA has nothing close to it for comparison in yercaurd!!!!!!!
