This is not a schezwan sauce at all. It's just a tomato catch up with chat masala. This taste exactly like Maggi Tomchi masala tomato catch up but this is bit thickeker than maggi tomato catch up. Ching is much much better it has actual schezwan taste. I literally asked my wife to throw it in dustbin after I tasted it for the first time. Stay away. Overall for any dell monte product my experiance is always worst.

Waste of money

A week ago I bought this sauce to have it with fried rice. But seriously it was the worst experience ever I have. The quantity which I should use on any dish is just double.I mean if I use 1 teaspoon of sauce then I need to use 2 teaspoon of this del monte sauce to make any food much better

Other thing I dislike about this sauce is that it doesn't taste good like any other sauce such as maggi. If you will add more then usual then also you'll not be satisfied.

I strongly recomment you to go for maggi or any other company sauce as it doesn't tastes better.

Del Monte Schezwan Sauce
Aug 23, 2016 11:59 AM 3699 Views

I like chinese food specially chowmein we all know that in chinese food chilly sauce or schezwan sauce are commonly used to add spicy flavour along with the tomato garlic flavour. This adds taste to the food. So I have been using schezwan sauce for fried rice, noodles and other chinese dishes. After searching the internet, I came across DEL MONTE SCHEZWAN SAUCE . I wanted to try it. I checked all the list of ingredients which are like tomato, garlic and then ordered it online. I made up my mind to check it by using this sauce in my different chinese foods that I eat. But it's consistency is not so rich and I have to add more sauce in my dish than usual to make it tasty. So, I stopped using it as it is light and thick sauces are available which taste better with a few drops poured in chinese dishes.

You Need To Buy Different Brand's Schezwan Sauce
Apr 18, 2016 02:16 PM 5102 Views

I love Schezwan Sauce, It goes with every thing from parathas or fried items or for using as a pizza sauce and mainly as an add-on for Chinese food.

I bought Del Monte's Schezwan sauce because it was available at a great discount at supermarket. I thought Del Monte being a bid brand it's tastye would also be fine. But I was wrong, it does not taste like schezwan at all. Let me tell you schezwan sauce is made from soaking dried red chilles in vinegar and then they add garlic, ginger and other spices to it.

The sauce itself should not be a fine paste it must contain smaller granules of garlic ginger and red chillies.

But del monte's schezwam sauce had nothing to do with it, the consistency was very poor kind of runny and no granules of any spice it was a fine paste as they have used powdered ingredients. It lacked that spicy ans sweet and tangy flavour. You can but Ching, s schezwan sauce that is far better than this.

Better to go with other brand

Hello everyone,

I am  a big fan of chinese food  and we all know in chinese food chilly sauce or schezwan sauce are commonly used to add spicy flavour along with the tomato garlic flavour.

I prefer to prepare any dish myself at home, so, many times I use homemade schezwan sauce for fried rice, singapouri noodles, chilly potato etc. but it is little bit time taking process to first make this sauce and then start to cook main dish.

one day i'm browsing some online grocery stores and then I came across DEL MONTE SCHEZWAN SAUCE . firstly I check the list of ingredients which are like tomato, garlic and some other things, after check all things I make my mind to check it personaly by using  this sauce in my different chinese cuisine . so, I purchased this sauce from the online store in 190gm pack which cost 45 rs. .

and when next time I make fried rice, used this sauce in my recipe in the of homemade sauce . this sauce is little bit different from my homemade sauce and it's consistency is not so rich . so, I have to add more sauce in my dish.

my experience with this sauce is not so good and not so bad also.

you can use it if u have limited options. but if u want a richness in your recipe then plz go with homemade sauce or any other brand sauce.

Too flowy or runny - more like red chilli sauce
Jun 29, 2015 01:26 PM 7508 Views

I like to use schezwan sauce a lot, for 1  big reason, it has  loads of garlic that kills icky bugs and has  the reputation of  being god's own medicine along with ginger root.

Garlic improves blood circulation, counters  bad cholesterol and reduces  the risk of blood pressure and heart disease and as I said kills  pathogens, bacteria and viruses . Studies even link it up with better sexual performance in men .

The ginger+garlic duo augment hunger and aids  digestion .

Among natural anti-biotics, I can immediately think of ginger, garlic, turmeric and cayenne pepper . Some of  them are anti-inflammatory too eg, ginger and turmeric, I am not sure about garlic and cayenne pepper in that aspect .

According to Andrew Weil, M.D. Indians  have the lowest instances of Alzheimer's disease in the world, and it can be attributed to the consumption of  high concentrations of turmeric by Indians in their food  .

The Del monte sauce was something that I Brought only for  the sake of  reviewing the product as  no one had  till date done it.

Well I was  unpleasantly surprised . The product had  the wrong consistency, was too runny actually, had too much sodium and was low on the hot, spicy, pungent feeling I get from garlic, the ginger flavour  was completely missing .

On checking the very small lettered ingredients list, after I needed to procure my reading glasses.as  the print is too fine on this 190g bottle, my suspicion was right, no ginger used at all, plus onion and garlic used  only as  powders in chilli sauce .

I sorely missed  the minutely chopped  garlic and ginger pieces, that I so much like, they also ensure a thick consistency, which was missing here .

The flavor was of red  paprika, weak garlic component  and the taste is  dominated by too much sodium and even the sour component seemed overdone while the  color is too intense, no idea  why, maybe some colorants were used.

The sweet component from sugar  was also  completely missing, the extra spiciness and sourness  needs to be countered with very little sugar  and that's how schezwan sauces are made . I also found that this one from Del Monte used lesser oil, it's important to use enough oil as its acts like a preservative just as in pickles .

This 190g bottles  sells at an MRP of Rs 45, though I paid just Rs 40 when I got it off D'Mart Store.

The verdict then is  very clear-  The flavours are all out of whack, ginger was  not used at all and onion and garlic have been used as powders . The sauce is  too runny or watery and feels more  like red chilli sauce . I think its a very ordinary product that will never get my nod again and I will stick to its counterpart, closest cousin or rival - Chings Schezwan Sauce .

But this sauce is  no good stand alone as a saucy condiment  or for indo -chinese recipes as an add-on.
