Picassa 2 a must have
Jan 25, 2005 09:25 AM5329 Views

Picassa 2 the software tool for archiving photos made available by google is the one on which I have based my review today. Google seems to never stop in its venture form search engine to gmail google has always shown that when it comes to google it is simply the best .

Two years back everyone used ACDSeeas a photoarchiving tool but now even that has become a shareware. The funniest part of it is where ever there is google it arouses competetion and finally better products for the consumer.

Picassa 2 that was available as a shreware now is freely available over the net for download it is about 3mb. Once downloaded it searches the whole hard disk for images. The images once archived are neately aranged it has wonderful GUI. The software gives various editing options such as redeye, and many others.

SO it is not only a photo archiving tool but an editing tool as well. EXCELLENCE is one word to say about it thanks to google!!!!! and BEST OF ALL IT, COMES FREE!

Nice One

Well, I was for long searching for a image viewer which will help me in viewing all types of image and also have a good interface. I enjoy viewing images with ACDSEE, though the version that I use is 6.0. The interface is good and effective. It also enables us to browse through the directories. It acts as an explorer also though does not provide all the facilities of the explorer. It is definitely an useful one. It lessens your number of softwares that needs to be installed. It might take some time but not so much time that it will be an irritant.

What more can I say that it has really eased up my pressure. Before for every time I gotta view an image I gotta open a new software. (Well, I was actually involved in Image Processing for sometime... ) Now, with the nice, cool and simple GUI this software appealed me sooooooooo much that I recommend everybody this software.

PS: Ofcourse, this review is based on my limited knowledge over softwares. If there is anything more fashionable, better & easier to use, well am not currently aware of it. Please lemme know. :-)

ACDSee is a good, feature-rich image viewer but its way too slow to for just that. An ACDsee fan may want to argue over the fact that I call it just an image viewer, but I seriously don't think people who are really interested in image manipulation would prefer ACDSee after being daunted by the apparent complexities that arise during their first experience with a proper graphics tool like Photoshop or Fireworks.

Anyone with slightly deeper interest in image manipulation is not going to give up before trying out Photoshop or Fireworks at least three times. Most users simply want to see images, and perhaps convert between formats. For that, using ACDSee is overkill. It's like using the DHL Jumbo box to just courier a couple of CDs which you might just be able to hand deliver.

If ACDsee is the Jumbo box, IrfanView is hand delivery. That's not my best simile, but you get the idea ;). It does everything that ACDsee does: views images, converts between a plethora of formats, lets you experiment with a multitude effects, scans if you have a scanner, it even plays video and Flash files! It supports plugins, so you can view almost any format in the world including the new Jpeg2000. Its upto three times faster than ACDsee, its FREE!!

Making a decision is easy. Just try and think of what you want. An image viewer? IrfanView. An image manipulation program? IrfanView. An image editor? You should really try Photoshop or Fireworks, because ACDsee wasn't designed to be one!

http://www.xnview.com - another popular viewer, but I really don't need anything after IrfanView :)

The Best Image Viewing Toot
May 11, 2001 03:17 PM5717 Views

It's an outstanding image viewer and file manager for your system. It handles most image, multimedia and animation formats. The program currently supports over 40 different multi-media formats including image such as BMP, GIF, JPEG, PC, archive, sound and movie files.Though it includes a few tools, it simply allows you to look at images the way you want.

The program has image manipulation and photo enhancement features such as red eye reduction, image sharpening, brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, negative, emboss, and image rotation. There's also a handy slide show editor where you can put together images for a screen savers. You can play WAV files in the software's preview window or organize your image archives and sound clips. You can acquire images, generate contact sheets, create photo albums for the Web, create slide shows, e-mail photos, and adjust image properties.

It works like Windows Explorer allowing you too see thumbnails of every graphics file you have, and allowing you to move, cut, copy, paste and delete. It does everything you can do in Windows Explorer and much more. ACDSee is a 90-day trial. The cost to register is $49.95.

ACDSee is one of the most efficient viewers around

Lightening Fast Image Viewing
May 03, 2001 09:07 AM5374 Views

Image viewing? I wanted to view some images, select some and copy to my hard disk. What options do I really have? Lets check them one by one.

Adope Photoshop – a professional photo editor costing a few months salary for me. It took some 5 seconds and several clicks to open the photo. The program needs to initialize several things like color tables, suits, engines, menus, tools, plug-ins. This explains the time.

Photo Editor – It comes with Windows (I am not sure). I opened an image by Ctrl + O, and selecting the file, another Ctrl + O to open another file and another… Sea – Good one with most simple and wonderful features like quick previews and minor image enhancements but DOS interface (?)

ACDSee – 1 right click in Explorer + 1 left click (“view with ACDSee” in menu) and 0.2 sec. Space bar to open next image in 0.1 sec and so on. Is the message clear? Just a rhetorical question you see. But ACDSee 3.1 build 921 (latest as on 3rd May 2000, is what I am thoroughly impressed and I will tell you why.

Normal Features:

1) It opens nearly all the existing image file formats.

2) It’s AMAZINGLY FAST. I love this speed. You can verify by clicking on “view file with ACDSee option” as described earlier and BLINKING your eye!

3) It has a browser (image viewer with a browser of its own!) thus enabling file-handling features such as copy, move, delete, rename. Its like Windows Explorer, but there is a preview area where the image gets displayed. It has a thumbnail panel on right side where list of files is displayed with its size, type, date, and time and just as in Explorer you can view the files as small or large icons. But the uniqueness lies is thumbnail viewing where all images supported as displayed as thumbnail. All photos at a glance! This helps in easy and fast selection.

4) Changing file formats (memory hogging bmp to compressed jpg format) etc.

5) Easy zooming with plus and minus keys. I am extremely impressed by ACDSee because of its new unique features. Its like “Ah! Did you know….?”

1) ACDSee has a basic photo enhancer now. So you need not shell out large bucks on Photoshop or Corel Photopaint (unless photography is your profession). It can adjust levels of brightness, contrast, gamma correction, hue, saturation, whitepoint, blackpoint. It can flip and rotate images, crop them, resize them using box, triangle, Mitchell, b-spline filters. There are image filters that helps to blur, sharpen images and despeckle is a marvel in removing all the noise. This amazing wonder called ACDSee also has preliminary effects like converting to negative, sepia (converts to black and white), colorize (adjust hue and saturation). The “emboss” effects are wonderful with adjusting azimuth, weight and elevation levels.

2) The images can be grouped and emailed at a button click (it uses the default email client like Outlook).

3) If a file is copied to a folder where another image file of same name already exists, then it opens a unique dialogue box providing a visual of both the images and options to replace the file or rename the file being copied. This is a totally unique feature, which I fully appreciate.

4) The plug-in html generator creates a html album. Just select all the photos that you want in your album and select this feature. The file is generated in a snap of fingers…. complete with the code using nice table tags. Put the thumbnail image files it creates with the html file on a web host and then the album is available on the INTERNET.

5) A contact sheet with thumbnail images can also be printed using another plug-in called as contact sheet.

6) Try file-properties after selecting an image file (jpg for eg.) and details like size and uncompressed size and compression ratio, width, height are available at a glance. You can feed in notes, description for that file, too. Such a unique feature is also available at a heavy price but you can use it FREE for unlimited period too by connecting to their InTouch Service once in a month. It downloads some advertisements and messages (advertisements and links again!). Well you have to bear this one but the pan with “GREAT UTILITY FOR FREE” far out-weighs the pan with “INTOUCH advertisements”. I bet you cannot live without ACDSee if you are a net buff. Is there a close competitor? Ummm yes another small utility called Picaview – ACDSee’s child but it’s growing bigger now.

I see, You see

This is one utility you dare not miss. It is similar to IRFAN view but personally I feel it is better. This is a utility to see all images. Images have different formats such as JPG, BMP, GIF etc. Whenever you have different images in your PC and you want to see them all without having to open individual programs for the individual pics then this is the thing for you. It has an explorer like interface. You can do all the functions of the explorer like copying, deleting and moving all types of files and folders. You have a slide show option wherein all the image files in a folder will be shown to you at an interval like a slide show. You get to choose and adjust the interval.

Ideal for viewing family albums if you have a digital cam or a scanner. You also have an excellent facility to search for any image file. All you have to do is type the name or keywords and it shows all related files. An excellent utility. Alas it has one shortcoming, It shamelessly reminds us at regular intervals of time that it is free and we can buy it if we want at bla bla .com and all that just like all sharewares do. But that's not such a pain since you are using such a nice utility free. All you have to do is press Remind me later.

You can download it from https://acdsystems.com or https://download.com . GO GET IT and then thank me. Alternatively, almost every Chip CD has it.
