This is one of the wrong investments that I made. I recommend you not to go for this epson inkjet printers.
I bought this Inkjet printer a decade back 28Feb2001 for Rs.10, 000. The sales people have told me this will print at a DPI of 2400.
This printer after installation, I printed a hand full of Black and White documents and may be 10 color photos 6X4" and the printer declared the ink is over. This happened over a period of 6 months. Then when I tried for new catridges, the dealers quoted Rs.2400 for color and Rs.1400 for BW. This is outrageous. I had left this printer untouched for almost 5 years. A BW document printing cost was Rs.2 in cyber cafes and a color photo 6X4 was Rs.5. So it was a unviable proposition to own this InkJet printer from EPSON.
After 5 years, I resolved to "use this printer" / "throw in dustbin" and I tried getting the catridges filled with ink from Chenoy Traade centre, Secunderabad. The printer claims that the catridges are still empty. I understood after losing lot of time that, they embed a chip in the catridge and record their assumed ink content, and make the catridge useless even after a refil. Some of the inkjet catridges from other brands also have this function, but the catridge can be reset to indicate that it contains ink. But EPSON doesn't allow this. Resetting EPSON INKJET CATRIDGE IS NOT POSSIBLE. They want you to buy a new catridge from them at exhorbitant prices.
Finally after lot of struggle to get value out of this, I found there are made in china compatible catridges which are available for as low as Rs.100 per black /color catridge. For a couple of years I managed using this printer, After a couple of years the printer head used to get clogged freequently and the print quality dropped significantly.
It was very tough for me to locate the Espon service station, and they told me that I need to bring the printer to their service station and they will try to clean the head and the chances are poor that the heads will get cleaned.
Since it was a decent amount of time, after I bought the printer, the catridge supply almost stopped in the market. So, I junked this EPSON Styluscolor 680.
Other draw back with this inkjet printer is that, even when my black catridge is full it refuses to print, if the color catridge is empty. And the catridge wil get dried up in less than 6 months whether you use it or not.
I donot recommend any one to go for EPSON Ink jet printer for home purpose. Also interestingly I didnot find a BW Inkjet printer in the market. Now a days the inkjet printer prices came down but the catridge problem is as fresh as it was before.
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
