Serving My Purpose
Aug 03, 2007 09:41 PM 5494 Views

I bought this set from Tata Indicom almost 20 months ago and still using it, it came in Rs. 1500/- with a Traveller's Bag free. Though I didn't expect a good model, still this one was not a good choice. The battery can't store charge for long and if you talk continuously for more than 10 minutes this turns so hot that it becomes impossible to keep it in touch with your ear.

In rainy days network goes out, and it has a tendency to go powered off whenever network is not found. That eventually tells upon the battery charge. The message memory is poor, and ringtones can't be heard in crowdy buses. The keypad is worst among all, and needs to be pressed with all your pressure. There is an another problem with the LCD display. Sometimes the LCD screen simply disappears and the total display goes out, also sometimes the screen decays.

But the set is very handy and has an attractive looks. That is why I fell in love with it when I first saw it. Another thing is it has a clear resemblance in features with Kyocera K112 (most probably), another product Tata Indicom was marketing at that time. Another attractive feature of it is a four way driver switch, which is not a copycat of Nokia. So users very much familiar with Nokia can't understand it's operations just at first look, which helps me. Don't mind, now-a-days it's an era of bloom of colorful and trendy tech- savvy mobiles, and I won't recommend my set to any of my friends and to those so-called college girls, who can't live without their mobiles (it appears that they are busier than Bill Gates, chief of my company). But those who hails from simple middle class family like me, and have a restriction on their pocket can easily buy and use it.

Surely it will serve the purpose of legitimate talking, despite the facts I mentioned above. By spending this small amount of money you'll get a mobile built upon CDMA technology, which has additional features like scheduler, organizer, alarm clock etc. Without burning YOUR POCKET how much can you DEMAND?

My company has given me this mobile three years ago which is my first mobile at that time we have purchse four mobile of this modle only in a scheme of reliance mobile at Rs.3500/- in it Rs.3240/- talk time vouchars were free. I am stll using it  it's a very tuff piece and out come is good enough not a very stylish piece but works good. Water went inside three times and once it has fallan into water pipe line.

But than I don't need to take it to companys work shop and adove that it has fallen down by me or my wife several times but still it works in a very good condition. I know looks wise or features wise this piece is not very good but than at this cost this is a best piece. Accrobing to if a person requires just a mobile phone without mp3 or camera or other fetures in cheper sagment he should go for it wiht reliance connection   abhay

I used this set nearly 3-4 yrs ago when it came along with reliance ,that special offer at Rs 3500 with 3240/- talktime. This was my first handset. But believe me,I wont be either emotional or nostalgic. But believe me,its not a set worth of using.

Battery durability is very very poor.If u talk 4 sometime u will find the charge bar will go down.It seems 1 has 2 carry the charger wherever he or she goes. Its simply ridiculous..

sound is quite poor.it is really a tough to hear the ringtone when one is outside home. The ringtones r also not that good.No stylish ringtones.N its sound reception is also quite poor. Its difficult 2 listen wat others r saying when one is outside.

I think tata may give sum extra features.

Take my word.Dont go 4 this set.Just wait for a few days ,get ur budget a big higher n go for a better set.

ABSOLUTE WASTE OF MONEY!!
Sep 05, 2006 02:56 PM 5282 Views

I was shocked when I saw some people's reviews stating this set to be a recommendable and "I GET SIGNAL ANYWHERE"was most schoking...one This was my first cell phone,i bought this exactly 3 years back thinking that tata indicom would be cheaper than GSM connections... There are loads of problems in this set, anyone who has bought this phone as their first phone would have been completely dissapointed with this phone.. where do I start...?ha!the good things first,:good things are it's design characteristics ,good looking and easy to carry around and is the ONLY GOOD feature about the phone..!! the first problem that I faced was that I could not receive signals at any place inside my house.. !!!thats the reason I found the statement by a fellow member"I GET SIGNAL ANYWHERE"to be shocking..This as some of us may have thought was the network problem..wich even I thought was at my place..i brought another indicom set which was not motorola but a nokia set wich was able to receive good enough signal to make calls at any time.. another big problem is the battery backup..in the time that I bought the connection INDICOM was providing the phone + connection for 1999rs.and for the first 4 months the outgoing call inside the state were FREE! so I used to make a lot of calls with this phone.. the thing is,i would charge this phone allnight and when I would call a person in the morning for about 25minutes,the battery stick with 3pictoral units when fully charged would reduce to a single stick after the call of duration 25mins. after the call, when kept at standby would reduce to zero within half an hour and the phone would get switched off!! so much for the battery back up. and a new problem started to come up a year ago where the phone suddendly without any human intervention would go to hag up mode where it will be producing o beeeeep noise and is absolutely unstoppable.even when the SIM card was removed it continued this BEEP noise for around 10minutes where the screen will be blank and no buttons will have any functional effect.. you cannot stop this untill it stops byitself this keeps happening every week, even when I am expecting important calls,if the signal is available i.e (NOTE*:i have not dropped this set even once and looks like brand new till today) there are lot more problems that I am not keen on writing... SO I would NOT recommend this phone to anybody on this planet EARTH...

Not user friendly
Apr 22, 2006 10:06 AM 5277 Views

I whet for this phone when I lost my nokia 3310. since I needed a phone and connection I opted for tata indicom+c131 offer. to start of it was a very attractive offer, consiering that u get an hanset and connection for Rs 1500.

as I went on from a nokia, the keys and menu's in C131 was not at all comforting to start with. I had a tough time to understand their menu system. it's not for a lay man to grasp that, for even the manual is not elaborate. you need certain intelligence and should never be a first time mobile user to try to make out the C131 menu. its for a more seasoned intelligent guy!!!.

though value for money, its not user friendly compared to nokia. one f the major draw back is that, the phone keeps seraching for signal when network coverage is not there. this can drain your battery. when there is no signal and you need to switch on the phone to retrieve a number from your telephone book, it can take an annoying 5 minutes before the phone is ready for that. that's the cruelest thing a phone can do to you!!!!

Very nice mobile set
Aug 23, 2005 08:05 PM 5748 Views

I bought this mobile because this is cheapest one. TATA indicom is service provider . cost only

approx 1300. I can get almost all facility of nokiya ., except some game . good feature is that sound pickup is good , it get signal at any place . easy to handle all facilty . I have not got any problem till from 6 month I bought. good lokkng as well. voice quality of this phone pretty good. The mic is very sensitive, and can even pick up the speaker’s breathing. one problem I got sometime that connection

got disconnected by itself. it require much frequent charging almost daily . looks is really nice. other facility is usefull like alarm. coustom care is not good (TATA INDICOM) massaging require lot of time to get tools. font is also small . only selected ring tone is there. but all are good

if u need mobile at low price this will be perfact for u . one more problem , it start (after swich off )like a computer start (takes time) . and if u set pin no , u will find that if signal misses at one time , u have to use always pin no to start connection . this is really leborios .

Excellent basic economical CDMA phone
May 09, 2005 12:11 AM 8639 Views

Motorola C131 is an excellent basic CDMA cell phone. The first impression that comes to my mind is the excellent clarity is sound reception, though perhaps the credit may go to CDMA technology

The drawback is the SMS feature. It has a complicated mode to convert the ''ezitext'' mode to ''multitap''.i.e in Ezitext mode, it helps the SMS user to automatically insert the word after enterig few characters. But in reality this is of not much use.So every time one needs to send sms he has to change the setting which can be tedious, ands irritating at times, considering in the age when one likes to send quick messages.

Lookswise as a basic phone, it looks good.I have purchased this phone for my father which is offered by Tata Indicom. But the Tata Indicom seems to have some problem with network in some areas in Kolkata, though the the phone cannot be blamed for this problem.

But I am sure Tata Indicom will soon ensure strong coverage and network going by their reputation.

Going by the attractive price tag(Rs.1499/-), it is perhaps cheapest first hand phone which is neither bulky nor ugly.It is perhaps a phone which is suitable for senior age group who prefers the basic features i.e just for calling/receiving calls, with economical tariff(by Tata Indicom), and excellent sound/voice quality.

If u r looking just for a basic phone but at economical, and first hand instead of searching for an cheap handset in grey market I suggest go for this handset. But it is certainly not for one who requires advance features like GPRS,colour, camera etc.......

Motorola c131 a literal waste
Mar 14, 2005 08:56 PM 5276 Views

Yes, my friends its a literal waste of money to buy such a phone although it comes hardly for Rs. 1399/- in a reliance scheme even then I would suggest that its a waste of money.

Follwings are the key points that u might look into before going for diz baby.

  • For the looks I give a 2/10 rating

  • The key pad is as worst as it could be and the phone really responds like a pc which really needs na be defragmented.

  • Although it has got a ezi text messaging but it could be a real frustating to even go with.

  • Not even a single ring tone is worthy 2 be listened.

  • Its voice reception is also not that gr8 in its segment if you really want to buy sum thing go for a samsung slim that one - check out baby.

  • May be while preparing this phone motorola forgot that its not 19th century - lol (in respect of games, ring tones etc)

Motorola C131- Indicom
Dec 30, 2004 12:07 AM 5755 Views

Hi Guys

Few days back I bought Motorola C131 cell phone. It is an excellent piece for 1150 Rs (box packed) with 1 yr warranty. It can be used for SMS, support smart text entry, unique way to remeber contacts ( I prefer its style over Ericsson and Panasonic). It is very elegent anf attractive at the price of 1150 obviously.

Backlight is a problem area , needs to be rectified by Tata or Motorola .

Games, not to mention are very boring and once u play u wont like to tell anybody that this cell doesn't have games.

You cannot download ringtone, games, pics mesg but I still insist at price of 1150 it is hell of bargaining that again with warranty.

It is very light weight and sound quality is superior.Pressing buttons is a bit notchy but again the thing called money peeps in.

Overall I wud like to say if u dont wanna invest now in an expensive and advanced cell then this will be a good handset..

I have tried using this CDMA handset with GSM ... it didnt give any error but it is not able to dial no...

I'm working on this .... If I succeed I will inform you on the same forum....

If it works for both ... then it is goin to be the best buy for entry level market cellphone...

Motorola C131:An intolerably BASIC phone!!
Nov 17, 2004 08:17 PM 5097 Views

I got this cell about 9-10 months ago. IT IS TOO BASIC!! EVEN MORE BASIC THAN WHAT WE CALL BASIC.It's just a box which allows you to operate within the VERY BASIC limitations of a cell phone.

NO WONDER ITS EFFECTIVE PRICE WAS RS.250 AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE AS RELIANCE WAS GIVING 10 RECHARGE COUPONS.

The display is POOR REALLY POOR!!

THE BATTERY (ALTOUGH BEING NEW) IS A DRAINED ONE - GETS DISCHARGED WITHIN 1.5-2 DAYS - TALKTIME HARDLY OF 1 HR. U MUST recharge it every 1.5-2 days or it will sleep like a dead one.

NEVER GET LURED BY ITS LOOKS - THIS PHONE IS COMPLETELY DEAD, SICK, VERY VERY BASIC ABD HAS A VERY POOR DISPLAY

P.S.: IT IS JAVA-DISABLED WHICH MEANS THAT NOTHING : I MEAN NOTHING CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM SMS SERVICES AS WELL AS OTHER CONNECTIVITY CENTRES.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.

Worth a Buy for a common man
Jun 22, 2004 10:50 AM 5176 Views

Hmmn... Hey folks. Let me tell you something great about Motorola C131. This phone is really good for making STD calls only. This is absolutely not prefarable for making local calls. I guess some amendments must be made in this regard by the providers soon. Otherwise, trusted customers like me may be lost.

It is really good for making and receiving phone calls and the sound aspect is also technically sound. I like it. This vibrator mode is a blessing in disguise for me instead of ring tones as I am averse of sound.

But, sometimes even the vibrator doesn't work and there are instances wherein I have missed some important calls. So, please take of this aspect.

Another interesting thing which requires adhoc attention by both users and providers is that, the billing is not calculated instantly for SMSs. This really hurts me as I rely on SMSs and I dont know when my account expires.

The style is really good and it really stands out. I feel the quality must be somewhat better eventhough there are no problems. Also, the buttons are not that user-friendly.

SUMMARY : I recommend this mobile with this package to all users who are in need of a normal cellphone with basic facilities.

Nice basic phone
Apr 16, 2004 02:46 PM 6226 Views

I got one in the middle of march '04. Till now the service seems good. My reason of buying it is Reliance is giving away this phone + Rs 2000 talktime in installment scheme. So I need to pay Rs 500 per month for 7 months.

The good things first.

The phone is attractive and lightweight compared to other CDMA phones.

Voice clarity is extremely good, almost like landline.

Signal strength is somewhat ok in shadow areas.

Backlighting is good but everytime the signal fails it comes up and that causes a lot of battery drainage.

Now the minus points.

The navigation key is very hard and difficult to operate.

For menu, first thing that displays is settings instead of contacts. I wonder why they thought everytime we will change the settings.

For SMS , default is ezitext which is a kind of dictionary and very irritating with all kinds of suggestions. So every time you want to send a SMS you need to change the setting to get to normal typing.

Viewing a missed call is difficult. It shows, you have a missed call , but when you click ok it comes to default screen. Need to navigate down to missed calls section and then view it (maybe I don't know how to operate).

Ringer volume is very low. This makes it difficult to hear the ring if the phone is in your trouser pocket.

Another thing is local calls make up for most of the cost as billing starts as soon as the other end starts to ring no matter whether te called party picks up nor not.

Overall the set is good for recieving and making calls, but no fancy addons like d/loadable ring tones, picture SMS, RWorld, mms etc.

Good but Not good Enuff
Mar 29, 2004 09:51 PM 6424 Views

Well we cant ask for more with the price demanded..I liked almost everything in this piece(motorola c131) but the only thing which broke my heart was when I learnt that ringtones cant be downloaded to this piece.. I am very fond of ringtones and this was a major setback for me..

I agree that The backlighting is very poor compared to nokia pieces. The battery life is also less. The ringer is not that audible , even sms's are a real exotic. The buttons are hard enuff. The vibration is not upto the mark..There is no picture message, games are just two and not worth mentioning..there is no proper dictionary for SMS..And reliance had made the service ven more pathetic..No doubt the range is good but we cant send SMS to any contests..it says Invalid number..We cant SMS trump service It again shows the same messages..I tried to download a few ringtones from 8888 It again shows the same message..Well all this had made me feel really sad...But I could have still managed had it allowed ringtones to be downloaded...If anyone finds that this is possible please email me I would be really thankful..

The Phone is good by looks but not the service..besides reliance doesnt even update the Charges automatically..I have to wait the other day to check what my real balance is..This is Pathetic service...

Motorola phones

Thanks to all Mouthshut members who have reviewed this product. These reviews came extremely handy to me at a time when I needed it the most.

As most of you know that Im doing my BMS and have loads of projects in hand (though our University exams are at hand), me and a couple of my colleagues are doing this Market Research on Reliance Pre Paid. Inspite of visiting a lot of the Web Worlds, we couldnt catch hold of any Rel Pre Paid Customer.

Thanks to all your views about this product. I am definitly going to include this in my project report.

I too made a similar mistake a year ago by buying a Motorola handset. Im currently using C 330 though I have an Orange connection.

The phone comes with three interchangeable housing shapes (express ons) of three different shapes.

The tones are extremely low, if I'm travelling and have to keep the phone in my pocket, I have to keep it in Vibrator mode.

As compared with the C131, this phone is much better. It has almost 45 polyphonic ringtones, downloadable tones, pictures etc. It has a white display and even the contrast can be adjusted. It has GPRS, Web Browser and a unique composer. It has 3 games the best one being Grand Prix Bike Racing.

The only biggest problem is the battery. Each call of about 10 mins brings the battery down by one bar. A call of half an hour brings the phone in low battery mode. Whats worse than that is that the phone suddenly switches off and on on its own even if I am on a call. All this happens inspite of charging the battery everyday the whole night for about 11 hours.

On the whole its a fairly simple to use phone though I would never recommend Motorola to anyone.

Paisa vasool, but the cellphone is horrible.
Mar 29, 2004 10:06 AM 5583 Views

This is the new motorola handset launched by reliance with its RIM prepaid service.

The package offers a good value for money but the cell phone is not user friendly.

This is a good cellphone for making & receiving calls only. The joystick buttons are very hard and quite annoying. Also the screen display is not bright. The worst is messaging. You have to type the ''ok'' & ''joypad'' button atleast 10 times inorder to send a message. This is the only cellphone which asks for the number prior to the text and becoz of this there is no ''send to many option''. Also there is no option to toggle between the built in dictionary and manual typing. You cannot add new words to the dictionary and hence you have to toggle between these 2 modes everytime u send new message.

The 2nd drawback is tones. The volume is so low that you wont be able to hear the calls if u keep the cell in your trouser pocket. The only way out is to keep it in vibrator mode. The alarm is not powerful hence u cant rely on it.

The games are horrible. Forget it.

When u click the ''ok'' button it 1st goes to the settings option instead of messaging. Whose gonna change the settings everytime ??

Overall the cell is good only if u wanna receive & make calls. Forget messaging, tones and games.

If you want Reliance prepaid go in for a Nokia or a LG phone.

You get what you pay for!
Mar 27, 2004 11:03 AM 8865 Views

I bought the phone 4-5 days ago for my father visiting me for a few weeks. Out of the 3 phones available as part of the RIM Prepaid launch offer, I picked this one because itoffered most value for money.

I will be comparing this phone against the Samsung N191. That's the other phone I have from Reliance. Since the network is the same, the difference in experience should be because of the phone.

I find it a decent phone, but one whose time has come & again. It is a very good looking phone, and its surprisingly light but it looks like a phone from 1999. The body seems to be made of cheap plastic, but I trust Motorola to make their phones tough. I am sure that this phone can take a beating, and still survive.

The signal strength on this phone is quite good, but its not as good as the Samsung N191 (from Reliance). It frequently loses signals while Samsung N191 continues to be on the network at the same spot.

The voice quality of this phone pretty good. The mic is very sensitive, and can even pick up the speaker's breathing. No kidding! The speaker is not as good. The other person's voice doesn't sound quite as rich as on the Samsung N191.

A major disadvantage in this phone is that it does not support T9 predictive text input for text messaging. It uses eZiText for predictive text input. I have taught myself to use it, and I find that it can sometimes be faster than T9. But you can't teach C131 new words, e.g. using Hindi words in an otherwise English message, so you have to switch to ''MultiTap'' to enter Hindi words. This is a major pain in neck for me because I usually type out my messages very fast. The phone also doesn't have an option to ask for message delivery ack.

The menus on this phone take some time getting used to, but I guess that would be true for every new phone. My only gripe with it's user interface is that there is no shortcut key for text messaging. It goes without saying that the UI is not as user friendly as Nokia's. We Indians have been spoilt by Nokia UIs. They are so simple & efficient.

The Reliance dealer told me that the phone's ringers are very low. He was right!! I have never been able to tell that my phone was ringing. Not only is it's ringer volume low, it vibrates very slightly too. You need a quiet environment to tell if you are receiving a call.

Moto C131.. Basic phone.. Worth the money..
Mar 23, 2004 03:02 PM 9830 Views

Motorola C131, at Rs.3500 comes along with 10 gift vouchers for Rs.324 each (Reliance connection). Appears to be a pretty good deal. Lets see whats in and what's not! Now this is just a Basic phone. That means you can't access the Reliance Rworld (Which is offered free). Ofcourse you can access this on the other handsets (Nokia 2280 and LG RD2030 priced at Rs.6500 each).

Appearance

The phone looks pretty good. Nice shape and handy. The keys, are little hard. Especially the direction keys. The screen backlight is good enough.

Features

Coming to features, the phone doesn't boast of any extravagant things. It has no WAP, no USB, no GPRS. It has 15 monophonic ringtones among which 10 are conventional ones, and 5 are from Hindi movies. Ringtones can't be downloaded. Ringtones are loud enough, and not as annoying as N-3315. However Vibration Alert is not strong enough.

Messages

SMSs can be sent and received. Picture messages can't be received or sent. This is a major drawback.

Others

The phone has three screensavers, one is 'TIME', 'Decay' and the other is 'Ink Blot'. It has no wallpapers. These cant be dowloaded also. Alarm function works pretty good. The Phone has few Really boring games.

Battery

For normal use the phone comes for 2 full days before charging.

Conclusion

So apart from making calls or text SMS you can't do much or customise your phone. If you just need a basic phone, just go and get it. Coz its worth the money.
