4 The People Movie Movie Reviews

Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jun 13, 2006 04:51 PM 3631 Views

I went to watch this movie on first day first show.there was a great curiousity going around with the songs becoming a phenomenal hit.fortunately I got d ticket.n d movie started rolling. The story of 4 The People is all about 4 brilliant engineering students (Arun, Bharat, Arjun and Padmakumar) who feel that they should stop the rot within the society and clamp down on corruption and muscle power in our society. They open a website and ask the public to mail them about their grievances and problems. They shortlist the person with maximum complaints and track him down and punish him by chopping their hands or fingers! Their target include a corrupt doctor, a government sales tax officer and a local ‘goonda’. The modus operandi is to wear black leather outfits with helmets and to travel in latest souped-up bikes for the operation. The group is known as “For The People” and they have the public support and they slowly become icons with the youth. The government is forced to curb the growth of such a group who according to them is a parallel law and order force. They entrusts the job of tracking down the group to Sunil the new city police commissioner, a smart guy who uses his common sense to unravel the culprits in the end. I dont know why ppl here keeps telling dat dis movie is bad.its not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u ppl like only routine stuff.if movies like RAAJAMANIKYAM or THOMMANUM MAKKALUM deserved to b a hit den dis movie deserve to b a BLOCKBUSTER.atleast d director tries something different.APPRECIATE D GOOD THINGS. n d song picturisation was a let down.i agree.but why making dat a big issue.i think dis movie is certainly better dan dose so called family entertainers like BALETTAN,VESHAM n so called comedies like RAAJAMANIKYAM,THOMMANUM MAKKALUM etc.

If you wanna watch this movie to enjoy it - FORGET IT. You will not.

What went wrong:

> Poor Direction

> Songs when it's not necessary

> A new standard set for BAD ACTING

> Poor story line and visualisation

> Bad Camera

What was right:

> ''lajjavathiyee'' the only good song in the movie

> The hype and publicity which it doesn't deserve

Is it worth watching?

NO WAY

This movie could have been made better if the director was a little more creative in visualising this movie. There were movies on the same story line of people fighting against injustice in the community and they have been moderately successful. But this one falls way below the mark. To a normal person, it is an enigma why this movie made it to the box office. This movie makes us realize how much publicity can make things work.

Swades - The Album: A Master Piece
Nov 08, 2004 09:13 PM 3497 Views

A R Rahman - undoubtedly the best in the world of contemporary Indian music is back with a bang. The music of Swades is as good as any director or a producer could ever expect from his musician. All the songs are extremely well composed and gives you a flavour of something new to be listened to.

However, it remains that one needs to listen to Rahman's songs for at least a few times before the music could literally be absorbed. But as what even Aamir Khan mentioned in one of his interviews (post Lagaan release) - it takes time for Rahman's music to pick; but once its in, its legendry.

Swades is one such example a must listen especially when you only have the same type of music released by all the musicians. I am sure that Rahman's music is in flow with the entire idea of the movie unlike some movies like Asoka which although ended up having good music; but in no senses resembled the theme of the movie. Credit should also be awarded to Javed Akhtar for consistently coming up with lyrics that could only be described as 'classy'.

With the movies like VeerZaara soon ready to hit the market and of course not ruling out the presence of Shahrukh on the screen, the music of Swades could just not be compared with the existing music in the market.

All songs are different and one could mention that they are flawless. By flawless I mean most of the songs by other musicians seem to have some part of extended music just to give a breathing time to the singer before the next paragraph could begin or may be just to fill up the length of the sold music.

Lastly, I reckon Rahman will bag the Filmfare award and he deserves the same.

Although all songs are excellent, following could be put up as the top 3 of my choice in order:

  1. Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera

  2. Dekho Naa

  3. Yuh Hi Chala Chal Rahi

Warning: Do not rule out listening to the other songs. I am sure everyone's choice could be well sufficed by the album - Swades

Ten points for the people!
Oct 21, 2004 08:25 AM 4706 Views

I am trying to give ten points here. I don't know how many may have heard of this movie, but this one really was a hit film. But when I went to see this crap with high level expectations, what I got was pure wastage of money mainly because of these reasons - eight of the ten points I have mentioned in this review.

THE MINUS POINTS (8/10)

1) I don't support any one vomitting while singing and alcoholic addiction needs to be treated in rehabitaion centres or your career will disappear without any trace. (When Jassie Gift is singing, I think so - did you hear the song ''Lajjaavathiye''? Is he drunk or what? Me myself is the worst singer, but I feel that I am better than him)

2) I want no one purposely handicapped and especially four people beating up one man with weapons is no fair play. (These fellows goes out in motor bikes and cut of the hands of people who does even a small mistake - even terrorists only cut the heads off, they spare the body)

3) Only constructive violence is supported, I don't have a destructive mind. (While watching the movies like Predator, Alien and Terminator, we know that they are fictional and the evil has to be slayed - but what this movie gives the youngsters is the power to be violent and destructive in mind instead of being creative and thoughtful)

4) Acrobatics is not even near the word ''dance'' and smiling needs to have a limit. (Look at Bharat, he is just jumping in the movie - if want to do acrobatic moves, go to crcus or WWE, what in the hell are you doing here? And the actress Gopika - she is just smiling and waving her hands instead of dancing)

5) Too much hype and somewhat fans. (The movie was too much talked about and every one had high expectations after those who viewed the movie kept on telling - ''This one's great''. Jayraj and Jassie Gift got too much fans for that time, I'm glad that it is low these days)

6) This is not for the people, this is for themselves or may be for the devil himself. (In the movie, four young men take law into their hands - this is not mainly due to the sufferings of the people, but as their own families had to suffer a lot. They seems to have become some kind of psychos due to what they have undergone - what have they undergone? It is not shown in the movie! Thats what I call devilish ideas!)

7) You call these songs picturised? (The songs are picturised in the worst way as the idiotic Bharat and Gopika are shaking in front and behind some Kathakali or in boat. They even throws their arms in the air as if they are going to fly away! Please fly away to hell and let us escape from the torture)

8) Never take the law into your hands. (The movie shows us how these people take law into their hands - if this practice is allowed in real life, any one may get killed - not all people may search for some criminals to stop their itching - I don't think so. Atleast why don't they use the brains?)

But, I have to say there are some good sides of the movie. They were only a few and two out of the ten points I have mentioned in the review. I will not avoid them as they too makes up the movie and made it better than the worst.....

THE PLUS POINTS (2/10)

1) Corruption and bribery needs to be stopped. (They are against those who take bribes and those who are corupt - thats not a bad idea, but the way they faced this was purely satanic. Even Dracula bhayya and all his vampire friends may be sad about this)

2) Atleast something to listen to and the three out of the four actors and the other actress was good. (The song ''Mizhimuna'' was not bad and the actors except Bharat seemed good and so did the other actress Pranathi. That gives the movie something to cheer about)

I'm so glad that the second movie of Jayaraj-Jassie Gift combination was the biggest disappointment ever - ''Rain rain come again'' - you can realise it by the name itself. This situation makes me remember the proverb - ''All that glitters is not gold''. Watch for the vomitting Jassie Gift - he will give your eyes a never ending infection and prepare to lose your ear drum if you are too much exposed. I don't support anything ridiculous like this for sure.....

I'M CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE WORST MOVIE EVER - JAANI DUSHMAN TO COMPLETE MY 150.....WHAT A WAY TO BRING UP MY CENTURY AND HALF!

THANKS FOR READING THE REVIEW. PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO RATE IT AND LEAVE SOME COMMENTS BEHIND BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

Open letter to the film director
Sep 02, 2004 07:39 PM 3598 Views

Dear Jayaraj,

Went with my parents the other day to watch your movie, 4 the people.

Guess what? I liked.

I liked the capacity crowd in the theatre.

I liked seeing the various brands of cars lined in the parking lot of the theatre.

I liked observing the madness of many in the audience, groups of them coming forward to the aisle & dancing in ecstasy to tune of Jassie Gift's(music director) hugely popular Lajavathiye song in the movie, not bothered that they were blocking the view of the screen.

I liked everything Jayaraj, I liked everything except the movie!

Infact, when we came out of the hall, I immediately turned to my parents & apologised. Apologised for inviting them to witness this spectacle.

I guess I got carried away by reports of the Kerala youth going crazy(over the songs) in the theatre(police helpless), the box-office collections(super hit) & ofcourse the peppy songs including the famous lajavathiye.

One newspaper even went to the extent of telling that lajavathiye has almost become the new national anthem of the malayalee youth.

Ofcourse, you(especially Jassie Gift) must have been flattered by the adulation.

But tell me honestly, amongst all these showers of praises, did anyone criticise to you about the movie as a whole? Any negative comments?

I think not, because if there were any, you would have been more cautious with the making of your just released movie, Rain Rain, Come again(which got a verdict from Sify movie review as Trash!).

So, money talks. No one complains or comments when money talks.

Why was this movie named, 4 the people?

Let me try.

Is it because the story is about 4 idealistic young men, who disgusted by corruption, take law into their own hands & chop off those hands which are greased by undeserving Rs.500 notes(?!) & become instant heroes for the people?

Is that why? You mean, these 4 men are for the people? Excuse me, for the people, you say?

I am one among the people. This movie should have been named, 4 the police! - they, not the people should have accepted these 4 with open arms!

You know, I know that this movie succeeded, even became a super hit mainly because of Lajavathiye & some backing from few other decent songs in the movie.

But even the song picturisations were disappointing.

For lajavathiye song, the boy(Bharat of Tamil Boys fame) & the girl(a newbie, I dunno name) were either sitting in a boat flailing their arms(silently crying for help?) or standing & shaking their booty!

Just forget how the other songs were picturised.

I never prefer violent movies(some touches okay) but only did I have to sit(& my poor parents) for this 2 hour long purely violent movie but the sore sight of seeing these 4 ladkaas being glorified from start to end left me with a sick feeling in my stomach.

And remember, they were chopping away happily not because the victims were involved in murderous crimes, but that they were only corrupt!

Jayaraj, 4 the people came, saw & conquered(to my dismay).

Nows your chance. Its not late to make amends.

If I was the director, I would have rushed to the nearest temple to offer a neyi villaku *(ghee lamp) to the God or went to the church to do a *kumbasaaram(confession) or.or.done anything to cleanse myself of what I did.

I am scared Jayaraj, scared thinking of your future releases( if they go 4 the people way).

What's in store for the helpless, hands-tied-to-the-back Kerala audience?

Are you thinking of going national or even global with this movie? Thinking of dubbing this movie in other languages & releasing them?

I request, plead in fact, not to do it.

Kerala danced enough already, let not mother India too dance(or dare I say shiver) to the tunes of 4 the people!

Thank you for reading my letter to the end, Jayaraj.

We still have faith in you.

Make a movie that's truly 4 us, okay?

With love,

Manoj
