The HP Pavilion dv6 is the company's workhorse consumer laptop, with a 15.6-inch LCD panel and a nearly full-size keyboard. When you first see the dv6, it seems thinner than it really is. The gently curved back surface of the LCD housing hides some of the bulk in the rear, which is thicker than the front of the laptop. In fact, the curves of the entire shell disguise the fact that this notebook is nearly 1.25 inches thick in places. The keyboard is quite good, offering excellent tactile feedback, sufficient spacing between the Chiclet-style keys, and a discrete numeric keypad. The touchpad works well, and won't pick up floating palms ( a good thing) . It also supports multitouch gestures, but I found that it can get confused between the scrolling gesture and the magnification gesture while in a Web browser.

My friend purchased this laptop almost a year ago from now from eBay and complains about it as -

I've had this laptop a little over a year, and since having it, I've always had heat problems, but never thought much of it. Lately I have physically burnt myself on the laptop while even using a laptop cooler.

The heating problem was always there but of late the temperature of the laptop is extreme. Even under AC, it still is warm. Only the left side of the laptop facing me gets heated up while the right side remains cool. I have not seen any solution for this anywhere till now.

Got help from HP -

  • Cleaned vents.no help

  • Changed power plan.no help

  • Updated bios.no help

  • Replaced motherboard.same problem again happens.

He finally bought a new Dell PC about a week ago and sold the HP one on quickr.

Worst laptop
Apr 16, 2016 02:04 PM 4027 Views (via Android App)

This is the worst laptop which I had ever bought. It worked really well when it was in warranty. The laptop cost Rs 30, 000. The laptop has 500gb memory and 4gb ram. The processor speed of the laptop is less and it lags and hangs most of the time. The laptop sound and picture quality is worst. The laptop screen has turn dull. I had contact the service Centre but they ask for huge amount for repairing this. The person at service us very harsh and rude.

The laptop has a heating problem and the battery drainage. I just suggest you not to purchase this laptop as it will just waste your money.

Hp laptops are the most stupid ones on the earth

It was 3 years since I bought my laptop from hp . I worked fine for 1 year from then and suddenly after an year my battery stopped working, I came to know that hp is doing this wantedly for their business. I called them for almost a hundred times ..and I am vexed doing this all since 1 year. They don't respond properly, they don't have valid contact numbers, they say that they have a world wide warranty but nothing of that sort is there ..and the worst part is that the laptop becomes so hot that we can even toast a bread on it ......

This is my suggestion to my friend who wants to buy a new laptop or pc " NEVER BUY HP ONES."

HP DV2519TU
Nov 18, 2008 07:18 PM 4112 Views

I bought HP 2519TU notebook computer on August 2007. Now its more than a year and I believe, this review will help users to identify what to anticipate while buyinh HP laptops. The laptop was bought from a retailer and the purchase price was Rs 52K. This model did not have a graphics card. ( This is something that youngsters should watch out for ; if you are planning to run any decent games dont expect the integrated INtel Graphics is going to support it.)

The Factory fitted memory was 1 GB (512 X 2 =1024 MB)

DVD writer combo originally manufactured by Liteon .

160 GB SATA Hard Drive

Where the HP people missed while conjuring the configuration was the memory. For Windows Vista Home premium that came loaded with the laptop 1 GB was way too low for decent performance.

They also refuse to partion that 160 GB HDD into manageable partitions, instead you have a 145 GB C drive and a 15 GB data recovery partition.

As with every HP laptop this one also could be used as a room  heater. The bottom left portion, just above the hard drive heats up like a frying pan.

After 8 months of usage, a chip controlling the video failed. The failure was imminent as I had problems accessing the desktop once the screensaver was running. Essentially there was a conflict between the power saver/manager circuit and the video controller unit. I took it to an authorized service center and the no word from them for two weeks. Later contacted the HP customer care team in Bangalore. (got their number from the HP India website)

Some pressure from the HP team resulted in my mother being replaced. Once the warranty got over , I upgraded memory with two Transcend memory sticks of 1 GB each.

After the motherboard replacement, the heating problem is much less and the memory upgrade resulted in drastically improved performance.

Moral of the story: Buy proven **Dell laptops with no Operating system. Take it to a local expert ; get the Hard drive partitioned and get Windows XP installed.

Windows Vista is not worth the money you pay.

I have put the word proven in bold as Dell laptops can also be problematic. First and foremost only buy laptops thats been in the markets for a minimum of 6  months.

In case of Dell ; their case the support man will come to your home ; so you know whats happening with your laptop.

Dont buy HP dv6767 tx Special edition
Nov 18, 2008 06:22 PM 3989 Views

I brought HP dv6767tx laptop 7 months back and I think it is a frying pan I mean you can make omlette, dosas, chapathis etc at the backside of this laptop. In this 7 months it has already crashed 2 times. Thank god its still in the warranty period. First(3 months ago) the power board went bad because of excessive heating and the HP got it replaced for free. Two weeks back Hard disk crashed and they replaced it with a brand new one. I had an argument with them about their product and they replaced Windows Vista home premium with Windows Vista Ultimate as a compensation.

This has been a bane as the system has slowed down considerably and I don't feel like I am using a system with 3GB RAM with NVDIA card with 256 MB dedicated memory. Now I am getting calls from HP to extend my warranty for another 2 years but I am thinking of selling this off and go for another one which oozes less heat and gives good performance. HP has good customer service but somehow I am feeling bad about their products. Never ever go for this by looking at the high end configuration of this laptop.

It has got heaps of problems.

Sleek & Sexy - HP Pavilion DV 6114TX
Apr 07, 2008 02:59 PM 4914 Views

I got the HP Pavilion DV 6114TX in November 2006.. It has a 1.8Ghz Processor , 2 GB DDR II Ram, 100 GB IDE Hard Drive, 15 inch LCD. Its got the looks that most other major Laptop manufacturer's couldn't have thought about. They are are just copying from HP.

I have used this Laptop very roughly. I have its switched on for over nights downloading movies & music and also sometime for ripping DVD's. Its 8400 Go Nvidea graphic cards coolly renders the best graphics possible.. I have even played NFS Underground on it..

Though it needs to heat up and the DVD writer from Lite Scribe is supposed to be the best in burning ..i found that not so up to the mark..  And had to have it replaced once from HP.

The price of HP accessories and replacement parts are the killers.. for example - an 1 GB DDR II Ram would cost around Rs.11, 000... That's right...!!!!

Overall, I would still recommend this device..

Decent Value for money

I own HP pavillion 6502

with AMD Turion processor, 64-bit dual core, 1.8ghz

2GB RAM,

160gb hard disk, wireless broadcom, bluetooth

finger print reader, nvidia graphics card,

inbuilt 1.3 mega pixel camera

15.4 inch screen and windows vista for Rs.42k

Seems to have good performance and other features is cometitive to dell and lenovo. I read that it has lot of problem with the service center guys. I am lucky enough that I didn't get any problem. Screen view is not that comfortable. This is a better selection if you consider the cost but lenovo has lot of features than HP. Battery life is 2-3 hours depending on my usage of video or audio and how loaded it is. Vista sucks and I would have a bad time before I got XP or linux in working condition with all the drivers properly installed. Its recomended that you use with vista because getting the drivers will be a difficult task.

One thing that I wanted to highlight is that if you choose the intel model it costs 15k more than this. The performance of Intel is better than AMD according to experts but even they admit the difference is so less that a normal user would be affected by it. So think before you purchase. AMD with nvidia is good with graphics stuff and I can feel it in gaming arena. Gaming is good with this combination.

After the usage of 2 years I am updating the performance of the laptop and the service provided by HP:

Battery backup is very low about (30-45 mins). HP service center personnel recommended me to get a new battery which would cost me about Rs 6500

One of my laptop speaker stopped working, since it was withing warranty period I got it replaced from the HP service center.

HP service center has good response( I had to visit there twice in two yrs), but their service is costly.

Caution with HP Notebooks
Aug 26, 2007 12:02 PM 4606 Views

If you do not want to cry later** then please do not buy an HP/Compaq Laptop. Firstly you will be forced for Windows Vista costing any thing between Rs.4000 - 8000 because of pressure from Microsoft that every new laptop should be shipped with Vista. If you go for a DOS based Laptop then they will not give you any drivers CD. More important HP or Compaq do not manufacture their own Laptops they get them outsourced from Quanta an Taiwan/China based OEM. HP Just put their logo in BIOS.

Quanta does not provide drivers or any kind of support. You will not get any drivers from HP website except for vista forget Linux or XP. Even XP drivers are also washed out of their website in favour of Vista. I am still searching for drivers after churning out Rs40, 000.00 for a DOS based model V6425TU from HP.

So take care**. If you go for DELL they will simply refuse to ship without Vista. It seems that all big players are conrtolled by Microsoft's dirty gaming tricks. I you do not want to use Vista then why should pay for Vista and why one should pay for a buggy OS like vista.

It is the duty of hardware vendor to ship drivers for all mainstream OS alongwith equipment. But Microsoft doe snot allow them to ship drivers for any other OS other then VISTA.

HP nx7400-your journey to hell via HP service cent

I had bought this one devil of a laptop from HPs authorised dealer at kolkata(Millenium cyber works Prop Francis Basu Sarani , Kolkata-69 on 27th jan 2007.I paid thru my nose an amt of Rs.65, 000 and ws told tht dis ws one wonder of a laptop being a business notebook and I even paid extra for the 3 years international warranty......i dnt knw if dis is believable bt the system wrked  like an intel1 or some other ancient processing system from the very first day of use....whts more it has a 512 MB RAM and core duo processor- the reason for which they supposedly charged tht mch......and then u cudnt play songs if u copied a CD or DVD.......since I work in chennai I contacted the Service centre at chennai (jeypore hall, peters road)abt 3 months bk in the first week of february and had the one of the coordinators telling me tht multitasking wasnt supported( my god.....as if the poor communication skills and pathetic english of the chennaian service centre wsnt enuff tht they wud make me belive tht a laptop in 2007 doesnt support multitasking).....

Anyways since then the last 3 months has been a nightmarish association wid HP and its service centre at chennai....they take the laptop to their service centre every 4 days and tell me thrs a hardware or a software problem replace one part(till date the battery, motherborad, cd-dvd drive, system body, speakres have been replaced-so in a  sense the laptop is no longer the one I bought....:))..................and then the process continued till they wudnt even spk abt replacements and I pay huge bills for calling them up from myside for updates everyday nd then the centre head -one Mr MUrali at the chennai serivice centre tells me tht I neednt worry cos I cn always bring the laptop bk for the next 2years 8 months(4 months already have gone widout teh prob being resolved and the system has already been formatted 10times or more) till my warranty expires by which I suspect he means tht I keep making rounds of the service centre for the next 3 years and then throw it away..becos it cudnt be repaired....

Btw even after 3 months the laptop is still wid d problem worsened.....meanwhile they say they detected other flaws in speakres and battery nt charging....and when I say replavcemnt they say its nt done at HP(???????).......so m finnaly filing a case wid the consumer court.......i hd read abt HP s dwindling sales compared to DELLS now I surely knw the reason since no testimony can be gr8er than a personal experience...so plz beware b4 u think of purchasing anythin from HP .....u will repent ever buying tht thng at all.....:(((

Think before purchasing HP notebook
Apr 18, 2007 10:47 AM 4833 Views

I have similar configuration of HP laptop which I purchased in U.S. My model number is HP Pavilion 6139US. Some of the problems which I noticed in my HP notebook is

  1. Drains the battery within 1.5 - 2 hours. Never got 3 hours of battery life.

  2. Maximum LCD brightness is very low. There is no option to increase brightness of the LCD. We have function key to increase but maximum setting also seems to be less.

  3. Speaker sucks. It's a Altec Lansing mono speaker. We wont get good audio quality. When I searched other forums I came to know problem is due to Conexant sound driver which is supported as default in HP notebook;(-

  4. Have in-built webcamera and microphone which doesn't give much quality when compared to external webcam and mic.

Overall look of notebook  and performance of the system is good. But the hardware comes with the notebook is not that gud quality. Please think once, twice or thrice before purchasing HP notebook.
