I have got the "HP Compaq nx 7300" laptop as a management tool from my firm. Due to mass procurement the organization got it at about Rs.55, 000/- about an year back. Earlier to this I was using a "Compaq" note book which I purchased in the year 2004 at a price of about Rs. 46, 000/-.
My old Compaq : What a big difference. Though hp was owning and marketing the "compaq" brand , the earlier compaq laptop ( P-IV) based was no comparison to this piece. The system then was very slow and unreliable and the key board used to give frequent troubles. The company support was also very poor in Vijayawada city though they have a service centre. The batter never lasted more than an hour after six months of use. All this about my old compaq-pIV laptop. The only thing good about it was its good looks.
The " HP Compaq nx 7300" laptop is a total contrast. Starting from the day one, its performance on all counts was meticulous. It is easty to connect to any device. Infact I connected my new Nokia N-72 about a year back in about ten minutes without any help from the shop keeper ( part credit also may be due to the good " Nokia connect" software supplied by phone company). The blue tooth is excellent and so is the wi-fi connectivity.
The blue tooth, volume and mute controls are very conveniently located. The key board and mousepad and keys are nice and nonsticky. The overall speed is also good and booting time is less than a minute.
If you are in hurry, you can simply close the screen and the power switch shuts the computer to a very low consupmtion mode. When you are back you have to just nibble the power button and U directly get the login-screen. The booting time in this manner is only about 20 secs.
Hardly does it ever go cranky. I never lost any data or time.
The configuration is :
intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU
T 7200 @ 2.0 GHZ , 1GB RAM
100GB hard Disc, cambo DVD
15.4-inch WXGA display with 1280 x 800 resolution Wide diplay
Video Graphic Driver : Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family
Display viewing angle is also very good particularly horizontally, though vertically it requires adjustment as per eye position.
Came with Windows XP professional Version 2002
Battery life is excellent exceeding 3-3 1/2 hours even after one year. The battery indication (meter) also is fairly accurate.
Salient Advantages :
Reasonably priced
2.54 kg feature packed
Very fast boot and processing
Good connectivity
Sturdy keyboard and mouse pad
Excellent battery retention and life (unlikely to need replacement in next two years).
Good WXGA screen
Good power saving features
No failures at all
*Cons :
1.**Average plain jane looks
No IR interface
Exact same model may not be in the market
As in the case of most new gen laptops it does not support IR interface which was causing a problem in transferring Photos from my Sonyericsson Mobile.
As for the support there was no need at all for me to ever visit them , but I rated "service and support" based on my experience with the same agency with my old laptop.
