TATA PHOTON PLUS A TOTAL FLOP

I had got a Tata Photon + few months ago. Initially worked well but as soon as the monsoons arrived I had and am still having dropped connections and pathetic speeds. This Broadband that they say is total lie. Also their customer care just gives gyaan and rubbish to you on the phone. Tha fact is that TATA network. Don't buy and be suckered. And never take the annual plan. Also don't pay for the hardware in advance, this is a trick by them so watch out.

Slow, expensive

I have used this little extortionist for over 7 months and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who values their money, cares about the speed and is an ardent downloader. My plan allows me to browse the net for 2 hours everyday for a monthly payment of 700 rupees. There is no carryover of the time. For each extra minute you're charged one rupee.


Download speed is never higher than 25 kb/sec (with my BSNL unlimited plan I used to get 35-40kb/sec average and sometimes even 50kb/sec) and at times even pages like google will take infernally long time to load(and sometimes wouldn't at all). You won't be able to do much in those two hours anyway. Sometimes it wouldn't connect but that's rare.


So, if you want a connection that you only use outdoors occasionally and that too only to check mails etc, this may work for you. Otherwise, if you're thinking about getting a photon, perish the thought.

Tata Photon Plus - are they not cheating customers

Using the Photon Plus for some time now. Recently I noticed that they deducted some amounts from my prepaid account and found that they had deducted twice for the same usage at the same time. Customer care complaints just don't matter to them and the usual reply is that their server shows that I have used it. I made a snap shot of the usage and account details where it shows that they have deducted twice but no redemption of the amount.


I found such double deduction on 22nd June 2010 and 11th July 2010. They just don't want to hear. I feel that they are cheating the customers and when a complaint is made in this regard they just ignore it and send'a mail that the complaint is closed. Beware customers. Please check your account balances every day. The SMS of the balance does not match with the usage details. BEWARE OF THIS PRACTICE.

BAD device with worst customer support

My tata photon+ number is 9278715230 .m not able to use my device from past 2 months( that should be enough to open up your eyes) & regularly almost twice a week complaining to your customer care since then.from the past 2 weeks your stupid nodal office members are making false promises of JE visit.there has been not a single JE visit from your end since past 2 months & now m frustrated & writing this email to you guys


I've tried the highest authorities I could talk to including Mr. Mayank Jain, Veneet Bhatia & Sudesh & I found them too useless & irresponsible as your other CC executives.


These guys are simply ruining the reputation of a good brand name like TATA with this kind of lazy behavior. I mean a small issue that could be solved within hours is taking so long that it's been over 2 months & these all guys are still answer-less.


Still if u are not able to resolve this issue. I want my full money back I spent on purchasing your sluggish device, so that I can go with Reliance or MTS** . I chose TATA over reliance but I now guess I made a wrong choice & I want my full money back.


I don't want to hear more excuses from your end.just a straight answer.can u solve this issue now? or just take your device with you & pay me my 3500 bucks.

3 months and still no service

I am an MTNL broadband loyalist through and through. But since that is connected to my landline, and I needed a connection for my laptop, I decided to give Tata Photon a try. I got the instrument free when I purchased my Acer laptop in the first week of March. I paid Rs. 800 for the first month and was informed that Customer Care would be in toucvh regarding the installation. The call came through & since I work Monday-Friday, Saturday was the date I was given for the installation. No one showed up. I called C.C. and set up another meeting. Again, the engineer was a no show.


Finally I gave up, called them, and did the activation myself, as per their instructions. Still, no service. When I called C.C.(again!), they told me to go back to their Chroma personnel with my laptop, which I did, and they fiddled around with it & told me to wait as the service wasn't registered at their main centre. I waited. Three month down, thoroughly fed up, I receive a bill for my next payment - for a service I hadn't been able to use. I called them up and closed my account, stating that I refused to pay for something I didn't use. They said "We understand, Ma'am." Just got another call today from a loud-mouthed and rude C.C. woman. I slammed the phone down. For your own peace of mind, I'd suggest staying away from TATA Photon.

Not very friendly ISP

I used Tata Indicom only once and I tell you, had the hell of my life. I swore not to use it again. But some of my friends gave some very good review on Tata Photon, but still I don't trust.


As for WiMax, I think it is a great product and very new in the market, maybe that is the reason of it being a little unrealiable at the moment. I guess it is good just that your area must not be having a good reach. Contact the customer service and get help, I am sure they will help you with the process.


However, I have used Airtel and very with the services.

Pathetic Customer service

Tata Indicom Wimax - one of the worst service provider that I have ever come across. As my house cannot have feasibility of getting BSNL, Airtel connection I had to go for tata indicom - wimax connection paying 6500 + of amount for 6 months package. Believe me, my problem started on the day I have got the connection, Problem was intermittent connections and no connectivity most of the times. I have started raising complaints from that day. Engineers arrive and and they fix the problem temporarily but problem reoccurs in 2 days. I spent several hours talking to call centre which is a utter waste of my time.


It is horrible to see there is no co-ordination between call centre, engineer service and service confirmation team. First of all service is pathetic and then different ppl will harrase you calling you up asking if service is restored even when engineer has not arrived. There is no escalation matrix in call centre and you cannot apply service termination request from call centre where in engineers and service confirmation team asks you to talk to call centre to apply service termination. Call centre directs you to a mail id for any of the escalations and termination. Once you write a mail to the given address you are gone, ppl will start calling you to ask your problem without even talking to their engineering services (so called) to understand whare are they with the problem resolution.


Overall experience with tata indicom is pain in the neck and my suggestion is - STAY AWAY FROM TATA INDICOM - Thier service made me to seriously think over not going for anything related to TATA. They won't value for customer experience and money.

Big promises often fall flat. Tall promises by tata's is only half lived. Though i do not face connectivity issues or have major problem with the speed, i'm appalled at the customer service (cs) levels.


The major shocker was the fact that tata doesn't accept credit card payments (online or offline) !!! Its so inconvenient to go all the way to the store n pay cash to get your device refilled !!! When i requested the cs to swipe my card at the counter n adjust the transaction with the other bills they tell me that the when they swipe the card at their counter, the money goes to their vendor hawaie, their device manufacturer. Can you beat that !! They give u such ridiculous excuses n reasoning that make u think how do these people manage to sell ???


They do not mention it anywhere that they do not accept credit cards not even on their brochure.It feels like sheer torture !!


They make you feel like it's stone age !!! Please wake up tatas !! This is generation X.

Its the customers Fault

Would like to inform customers and would be customers bout the service and the support of TATA Indicom broadband service. I have been a customer with them for more than 6 months, and trust me all that I have got is grief when ever I try calling there service center.


This time I called up to inform them that Youtube is not working and even if it does it takes almost 45 min to download a 5 min clip, and to download a song it takes ages, however while informing them bout the same the advisor I was talk to did not bother to even say sorry for the inconvenience, and to my dismay and surprise he told me again and again its not our fault its the website that has not been working and that I was the 1st person who called in regards to same, so they cant do anything bout it even not log in a compliant for the same, wonders how they keep a track of customers who face issues like this.


Well just wanna inform people out there be careful as to what service provider you choose cause u might land in a soup just like me, I have applied for our very own MTNL BB, hope it works fine..

Tata Plug2Surf: Don't purchase !!

I am talking about tata plug 2 surf service, not broadband (photon +). Photon + service is available in selected cities only. Still most of the user from other part of country rely on simple internet service. I have used bsnl evdo, tata plug to surf, reliance net connect. I will talk about tata.


I purchased it 8 month back and used for 6 months. Initial cost was 2400. Including modem+ security+ one month free service. Max speed 144 kbps. Downloading speed max 15 kbps (if you're lucky) I was thinking that reliance too provides same thing, that's why i keep on using tata. Whenever  I put  any bigger file for downloading, connection breaks anytime in between and downloading stops. So you cant place any file for downloading , when u are away from ur pc. U have to be there everytime.


Many times, you have to wait for long to connect your internet.


Main problem, it never works with window 7. I contacted tata showrooms many times and of 4 cities, about all these problem. They said " sorry sir, we cant do anything. Piche se he aisey hai ". Same answer by all. No one said ke theek ho jayegi in future or its temporary..there was no change in there service. During 6 months, when i was using tata. Due to tata i was not able to use window 7.finally i planned, and switched to reliance net connect.same initial cost and i opt for pre paid service. 701/- per month.i was paying 781/- per month to tata post paid.


I was impressed by reliance speed on the first day. Mush better speed.max speed 230.4 kbps downloading speed average 20 kbps no break in connection in between and instant connectivity.. M using it from more than 2 months now. And found no problem at all.. Browsing speed and downloading speed much better and cheaper than tata.


Bsnl evdo.. Purchased around 14-15 month back, when it was not much available.modem cost was 4500/-(now 2500)monthly plan was 450/- unlimited 3.1 mbps if available with network, otherwise 144kbps never experienced 3.1mbps.main problem for switching from bsnl to tata was  national roaming was not available with bsnl (now available)


After reliance i will switch to evdo, not now. Lets see in future. Currently i will recommend reliance, tata ko ta-ta bye bye

Fast speed wherever you have good signal

I brought this device in last week of march for Rs 2400/- . Recharged for Rs 2000/- that gives 20 GB download limit and 60 days validity. Till now I have not faced any issue with this device.The reason I brought it is: All wireline players in Pune have no ports(Airtel), connection problems(BSNL) or expensive(reliance- Rs 1500 for 600 kbps unlimited) in my area.


Now let me list out the Pros and Cons


Pros:

  1. It gives good speeds in my area(Kothrud, Pune). I asked for a demo at my place before buying this device. I get these speeds:

Max: 2.2 Mbps (sometimes)


Avg: 1.6 Mbps


Min: 320 kbps (in my hometown where photon + is introduced recently)


Please check the speed at your residence before buying it. Speed is faster than reliance as it is newly introduced in Pune and number of subscribers may be less

  1. I didn't face any problem with the device till now. It never got disconnected. There was no downtime either. I use it in evenings and weekends so I may have not noticed any downtimes during weekdays.

  2. Setup was very easy. However I am unable to eject device(safely remove hardware) on Windows 7 x64 after use

  3. Prepaid tariff plans are better than reliance. No unlimited plans though !!

Cons:

  1. If you use it with a laptop, it is annoying to see that big USB device hanging out from the side. Kind of reduces your mobility. Same with reliance, bsnl devices also. Its not as comfortable as using wifi :-)

  2. Customer care is not up to the mark. I had faced this problem in Bangalore when I had a Tata wireline connection

  3. Only one computer can be used. Same with Reliance netconnect+ and BSNL EVDO. If you have more than one then this is not a option at all

4. Covers fewer cities compared to reliance and bsnl evdo


Overall, I would recommend this device for those who use a single computer and don't travel much. Also, get a demo before buying.

Tata Photon+ 3.1Mbps

I have taken TATA Photon + 3.1 Mbps on Feb-6th-2010. Surprisingly activation is done in 20 mins. I have paid Rs.3600/-. There is an offer going on. First month rental is free.The sales representative in TATA INDICOM showroom suggested me to activate the connection under 1500/- @15GB free per month and suggested me to change the plan according to my requirement, after the free period is over. But we need to call the customer care to in 2-3 days advance. Happily went to home and connected to my laptop. Alas, what a speed.


I had a billing issue earlier.It was resolved after multiple visits to the customer service center.Though I am not happy about the customer service, the product is worth having.

Reviews rip off service

I want to share review on tata photon internet service that is worst service in country. A rip off for customers. I purchased tata photon service on jan 19 with 5gb free per month for 3 months with no rentals


For 3 months @ 5000 rs. It was working well for first 15 days . I was getting download speed of 1 mbps and surfing speed of 700kbps. The all of sudden it started giving trouble with speed. And connectivity at same location. I use the connection at same location and don't travel.The signal strength at my location is 100 % bandwidth loss is also minimum according to technician who visited me .


I have complained tata photon help desk almost 30 times regarding the issues but the staff is arrogant And no action they make you shuttle from one department to another. And the problem is never solved the say we have forwarded the request to technical support. Technical support say they cant do any thing. I have been rip off by the tata photon service and would not recommend to use tata photon connection through my review on tata photon .


You might see some positive reviews on this site on tata photon but on proper analysis you will see it is posted by company sales people. I bet you tata photon is a rip off deal never go for tata photon internet not recommended 110 % bad service

Photon Plus-Horrible Experience

I was a strong believer and advocate of Tata Products, I used to tell every one to go for Tata products with out any second thought, but after having a horrible experience of Photon plus service I have changed my mind, its not the same old tata company, don't believe blindly.


Before buying the modem, I had checked with their customer service and they told that there is very good signal at my home location  and they promised 2.0 Mbps speed. I was quick to buy it online and to by shock from the first day there is no signal and when I raised complaint some one from service desk visited my home and told its a known problem, there is no signal in this particular area.(First hand cheating)


After several complaints and mails to Nodal officer the status remains same. They simply close your complaints without any resolutions. You cannot make even a Google talk call, speed will be 50 to kbps and it drops to 0.00 kbps as well. No stability and it literally useless.


Our public sector BSNL is far better than this great Tata company. Now after spending 2400/Rs(online purchase) I don't know what to do, they are even charging me for no -service and admit that there is no signal but still they will send bill. For my emotional decision, I am repenting now and terminated my connection


Don't go for this product, my friends also have same problems(Signal drops), they say reliance is little better, it will give you at least 1 mbps speed but stable connection.

A blot on name of Rattan Tata

It has been almost a year after surrender of my land line and surrender of the instrument, and after numerous emails and telephone calls and promises from the company; the tata indicom has not refunded security deposit to me.


This is what happening in national capital, i am afraid what is the condition of people in villages where they are not aware about the billing system and refunds etc. All private companies are making millions just by not refunding security deposits on one or another pretext.


Is rattan tat listening? With due respect to mr tata. I personally have great regard to the great son of India. But some things are probably out of his control.


Meanwhile customers like me keeping mouth shut.

I am using TATA Photon+ from 15-12-2009. I used it for 3 months. I have 1800 min plan for Rs.500.


Speed


I have not got high speed regularly. I some day speed is good, some day poor. I got aprox 2.4 Mbps for 20 days and 1.3 Mbps for 10 days in a month. speed is nothing differ in day and night. means in which day have 1.3 Mbps day and night have same 1.3 Mbps speed. and in which day have 2.4 Mbps day and night have same 2.4 Mbps speed.


Coverage


Coverage is vary good. live in Howrah(West Bengal). I used it in howrah, hoogly. Every where I got HISA signals and 97-100% signal strength on first floor, 75-86% signal strength on ground floor.

At your own risk

I live right bang opposite a tata indicom office in Bangalore and it was only obvious easy choice that i would try the photon. I was one among the first few customer who signed up for photon during the launch of the product in march 2009.


However, the customer service was terrible. I signed up for and was promised unlimited usage and then i started getting limited usage on my photon and would get service barred if i had gone over the limit. When there should not have been a limit. I was working from home, so photon was not used for just internet and pleasure. Work was getting disrupted big time. I couldn't take it any longer and i had decided to cancel my photon service and go for airtel broadband instead. I cancelled my photon in June 2009.


Today it is February 2010, and i still get a bill for them. When i cancelled in June 2009, I had paid all my dues and did not have a single penny due and i turned over my instrument to a tata indicom representative.


So what he has done he, he went ahead and sold my instrument to some other customer, but the account for some reason is still in my name, so i have been getting bills on a monthly basis from December. I have to call and yell and haggle with the customer service representative, however they will continue to send me bills and due letter every month, via email and post mail. I am going to lose my temper soon and might have to go to consumer court.


Bottom line, beware customer service is really really bad and billing method is worse. So you have been warned, just for the use of mobility for a few days, don't fall for photon. Wait till tata decides to buck up and give customers the true service they deserve and pay for. We are not doing them a favor, we are paying for it and should demand proper service.


Next, once an account is cancelled, after 9 months how can one receive a bill for something you have not used in the past 8 months? Doesn't make sense. Including the instrument, march 2009 - June 2009 i have paid close to 10000 rupees for tata indicom, they have made a big profit from me, and what I'm left with is stress, more stress and some new bills coming in.

Pathetic service and non responsive customer care

It is well known marketing gimmick, when you are selling something you work late even at 9 pm- 10 pm, tata indicom salesman can do anything to sale you anything, but when come to customer service and installation, they make you remember government queue system.


Last week on 6 jan, when I called them for plan regarding TATA Indicom Photon USB card, they send there salesman ASAP to my house at around 7 pm. they shown me plan and I choose 10000/- rs 2 G.B. monthly Download plan for year. they said TATA Indicom photon USB will be delivered within 3 days. the cheque creditied to tata account next day, but still you see I am waiting for photon usb card to delivered to me. i tried to call the customer care many time, but everytime they generate new reason for not giving photon USB card, either time contraint or executive not available, see they have send executive to collect money in no time, but still they looking for some executive to deliver it.


One of executive by name shikha, instead of giving service or provide good reason, busy collecting personel detail of my family as she is looking for some good match:-). joke apart. If tata indicom will treat there prospective customer like this, who will proud of TATA name india, as I am proud of it earlier.

I have been using the product for 8 months now. You need to understand that nothing comes free. You won't get portability, high speed of 3 MBPS etc. for 1000/- per month.


Speed


The sales guy told me that on average I will get 300-600 kbps during day time. And at night it will be very high, at least 1 MBPS. I have never exceeded 600 kbps at night. During day time I get less than 300 kbps.


So don't expect very high speeds of "up to 3.1 MBPS", it’s just marketing gimmick.


Cost


It is expensive than land line based broadband but you get mobility. You pay for the modem, then monthly subscription which is way too high than Airtel or BSNL. In Tamil Nadu, there are only 2 cities where high speed connection is available. So check where you travel before buying.


Connectivity


It’s okay. Gets connected 99.99% of the time. Sometimes it goes into CDMA mode and connection is 128kbps (Yuck!!!). But it connects. I live in Perungudi in Chennai. In Nov the connectivity was very bad but now it is okay.


I am disappointed that it is just normal speed connection (300kbps) and not high speed (e.g.1 MBPS) 300 kbps is as good a dial-up these days. But I use it to download games, etc. and does it good. So I am living with it.

To all the Airoli People who are planning to take the TATA Photon+ connection Please don’t go for it Strictly  we are facing this Problem from the past 6 months, we had raised many request to check the problem , but they are not providing any solution not even a good answer from the customer care network team and there grate Nodal officer.


First they will promise to give a 2 mbps, but actually we will get 0 to 0.5 kbps only


Hence we request to all the people in the airoli area please don’t go for this connection.
