Bajaj Pulsar DTSi Reviews

Bajaj pulsar dtsi (150 cc) BAD experience
Sep 26, 2008 02:41 PM 3965 Views

I purchased Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi from Fairdeal Bajaj(New Delhi) in Feb 2006.

I've done 30000 kms of Long rides in Himalayas and other parts and rest city riding in Delhi - total 65000 kms till date.

ENGINE OPENED 1st TIME

after the 1st service itself some strange sound started coming out of the engine. even after repeated complaints to the service center the noise remained the same. gradually it increased and after 35000 kms service centre wala suggested to leave the bike for few days.ENGINE OPENED 1st TIME

ENGINE OPENED 2nd TIME

one fine evening while going somewhere in Delhi suddenly a loud sound happened. Kick was jam. I took the bike to the nearest roadside mechanic who said the crank shaft has broken. Towed the bike to the service station. ENGINE OPENED 2nd time. 45000 kms

ENGINE OPENED 3rd TIME

I was returning from Uttarakhand, a short 800 kms ride. It was 2100 hrs, month was February. I just crossed Hapur and suddenly something happened to the bike in the middle of the highway and the engine stopped.my speed that time was around 85kmph.i tried a lot to get it start, but all in vain. Finally, loaded on a tempo and reached home at 0100 hrs next day. took to the service station. ENGINE OPENED 3rd TIME(50000kms)and changed the the crank shaft in extended warranty.

Now again engine has started creating strange sounds.

I am fed up of BAJAJ PULSAR

PULSOR definitely male
Sep 12, 2008 09:27 PM 4823 Views

I am having two pulsors one is 3 years (50, 000 km) another one is new one with the digital speedometer 1 year old (15, 000 km). I would like to share my views about the bike with you, *

*Styling & build> Best you can expect:

After **all those old fashioned & smae looks bike it realyy brings the revolution in the matter of style & build.  It lloks really a stunner in this segment. the fox eyed light & led tail lamps give (in the new one) an amzing look. The colours available & the combination is reach as well.

bajaj pulsor always provide you with many different things like swithches of indiactors, a led tail lamp, side stand indicators, front disc braek oil lavel indicator, an unique glass engine oil lavel indiactor on engine all this amazing features are provided which are always prod feeling when others don't have it :-)

Engine & performance> **Its really a cheetah :With the given 150cc you can just roar away on the road like a king. With the power of 14ps it gives you full satisfaction on the higways & even off road also. You can reach a top speed of 115kmph on a good smooth road. A 0-60 kmph sprint in a just 7 to 8 sec is amazing.

l efficiency> too much for any 1500cc bike :

It give you a average around 50-55 kmpl in city after all the way long signals & a traffick who will ask you to braeking & gear shifting continuously.... :-)

& 55-60 kmpl on highways at abvove 90 kmph speed maintainning all through the ride without compramsing anything Dosen't it sound to economical for this segment bike???? :-)**Ride & handelling : Definitely a smooth & performing ride. With the hydraulic rear shocks (for new one) it gives you a smooth & comfortable ride even on off roads.

Transmissions:Its not much convinciing as the other factors of byke. means it performs best but in the matter of maintenance & noise as well it does'nt work good as it is expected. Total summing up. If you are going to have 150 cc bike you should not consider any other bile in this segment as I will suggest.....SO DON'T THINK TO MUCH IF YOU WANT TO IMPRESS YOUR GIRLFRIEND YOU SHOULD HAVE IT.........

GURGAON India
What else you need from 150 cc bike!
Sep 08, 2008 12:23 PM 2194 Views

Hai, I have bught my pulsar DTSi 22 months back on 2006, Deepawali. It was basically my brothers choice.

I am writing this review after driving 87, 000 kms.Few points I would like to tell you about its mileage and maintenance done till date.

1)rear brake shoe were changed at 20, 000 kms each.

2)front brake pads were changed at 25, 000 kms each.

3)rear tyre was changed at 40, 000 kms.

4)chain set as well as clutch plates were changed at 45, 000 kms.

5)Second time chain set was changed at 82, 000 kms(that means it was changed earlier than previous mkt.But it was purchased from open mkt.

6)And now at 87, 000 kms engine work is being carried out(piston.ring & cylinder).

I just want to get you aware about the kind of low maintenance the pulsar is having as compared to any other 150 cc or 100cc bike.

Second and the more important thing is about the mileage of the bike. When driven at a constant speed of 45-65 it gives you mileage betwwen 55-75 kms per litre.I got the mileage of 70 kms per litre for approx six months when diving at a constant speed of 50-60 kms.

I got the mileage of 75 kms/ltr for 15 days.

ELSE IT WAS ABOVE 55 KMS/LITRE.( driving at a variable speed of 50-80kms/hr)

jUST BEFOR ONE MONTH, LAST 5, 000 KMS IT GAVE ME MILEAGE OF 50(when engine required maintenance).THESE PERFORMANCES ARE AS PER HIGHWAY DRIVING AS I DRIVE AROUND 160 KMS A DAY.

Low maintenance and excellent mileage are the few features I loved.

As always, there are few negative points. The gear shifting is not as good as unicorn or any other bike.Sometimes you may got angry while driving and may kick the gear liver in anger.

Else you can judge by my experience.

NEVER GO FOR ANY BAJAJ PRODUCT!! Pulsar included!!

I have a Pulsar 150 DTSI, which I bought in June 2004, I wanted a 150cc bike & at that time only Pulsar 150 & CBZ Star were available in the class, CBZ star looked hideous with that livery & it had fuel consumption issues like all CBZ's, so my choice was Pulsar 150 dtsi, it looked cool & was the IN thing during that time. Too bad Unicorn was yet to be launched :( :(

First few servicing went fine & the bike went well, I took all the care, like the 'run-in' stuff etc BUT the problems started soon, the servicing bills went up, till date I have spent Rs 15000 on maintenance & repairs & I haven't still replaced rear shocks & the tyre, that will only add 3-4k roughly  to that sum.. My bike has a mileage of 35000 kms. I have had no accidents..

I personally feel that 15k is a lot more for just servicing & just to keep the bike running. I have had the chance of riding various other bikes for some long runs & I must say, Pulsar is at the bottom when it comes to built quality, material, handling as well, and brakes suck big time, plus all the common Pulsar problems that can be imagined. I just don't want to start with the cons. Its endless.. The only Pros that I have is the looks & Engine, its quite good & is always ready for harsh treatments.. Having said that it also needs a good complete package.

SO, i'll cut to the chase, don't go for it, bottom line is, its mediocore quality will only frustrate you after some time, at first you marvel at its bold features, bold punch lines, looks but ultimately it all comes down to how well it is built & how well it withstands ageing. Not to mention Indian roads & traffic conditions, dust etc...I guess its like those cheap use & throw ball pens, only difference being, those pens are cheap & Pulsar isn't cheap yet use & throw..

Its not worth the money you pay & spend later on..

Pulsar: so far, so good...

Update - 17, 000 KMs, Feb 2011

Still going good. Put my bike to real test on Nice road, Bangalore.

Touched 107 max - full throttle - many times on 40 KMs stretch with pillion but wind plays a role.

NVH is very low beyond 60 all the way up to 100+. In fact, NVH is high only around 55-65. Back pain due to the standard mounting(not due to the shock absorbers as such, they are doing great).  Uni shock mounting itself reduces the shocks to a great extent unlike standard ones.

Update - 15000 kms, 2years+1. Fun to ride - cool

  1. Road grip/balance/handling

  2. My usage is mostly inside the city limits - shorter sprints

And the'not so good' thing is shocks. I wish Bajaj gave mono shocks.

Update after 5000 Kms/3rd Free service done

Absolutely no problems. Im surprised over mileage - Im getting 52 now, single ride, avg speed ranging between 45 to 70. I am using shell fuel and oil. This does make difference. Handling is like a toy in Bangalore city traffic. Superb balance and I think it has best acceleration in its segment. Over all, easy ride in traffic.

On the negative side, I found the suspension should improve. Gas shock seems to amplify the shock on bad roads in Bangalore. Believe me, compared to Uni, Pulsar shock absorbers are hard.

Beware of anti-incumbency factor: Many Pulsar owners tend to suggest Unicorn. They are right to some extent. But the mentality is that, one tends to think that if Pulsar is so good, Honda may be even much better!

Chosing between the extra push and road grip of the Pulsar against refined Honda engine and over all ride quality. Really difficult to decide. Probably, I would love to own both.

Hi Guys!

Finally switched to Pulsar from a TVS F2, after it started giving back aches. All this happened, after a visit to Goa, where I rented P150 for a couple of days. I enjoyed the ride for 2 days, and impressed with it.

I wanted a bike with excellent stability, handling, brakes and acceleration, which were lacking in F2. I did consider Unicorn also, but not Apache, as I knew TVS before for over 4 years in Bangalore traffic.

I have done over 1500 kms so far, first service done, with normal petrol / engine oil, and below are my experience with Pulsar 150.

  1. Stability- 8/10. My expectation is met and I would say it is excellent. Low speed(<10 Kmph in city traffic) or bad roads, this bike is rock solid. I have not gone over 70 as it is run-in period upto 2000Kms. At 70, it is quite stable, and even from Unicorn owner(a friend of mine), has lauded this for its balance & stability.

  2. Handling - 8/10:I could negatiate curves at reasonably good speed. And in city traffic, you can aim and shoot at short sprints. Yes, it goes in the direction where you desire. I think, shock absorbers are best in its class, which complements acceleration and brakes.

  3. Brakes: Again, I rate this at 9/10: Excellent brakes. This is what makes one feel totally under control in city traffic. You can aim, shoot and sprint relying on brakes - back as well as front disc. On approaching a pot hole/speed breaker, you can defer braking unitl a couple of meters away from it in a city traffic, when average speed is around 50 Kmph. This lets you overtake others easily. I do not know whats going to happen when tyres are slightly worn out after a year or so.

  4. Acceleration: 9/10. I would say this is best in 150 cc so far in Indian roads. The low end torque is the most useful element in city traffic, full marks to Exhaust-TEC. It picks up instantaneously, with crisp throttle response. If one is new to 150 cc, you need to take extra care initially. Unicorn also has comparable acceleration, but a little behind in terms of stability and brakes.

  5. Gear box: I would rate this 7/10. Yes, I think it can be better. In fact, it is not the gear box, rather, gear shift mechanism. Unlike other bikes, including my previous F2, this one does not give kind of feed back as you shift gears. Also, it is too sensitive - while running, at the slightest touch, it goes tizzy. you may hear huge noise, as if it is breaking dow right away. Nothing happened so far, I rather found a new way to solve this:

One needs to learn to handle it Pulsar way; it works fine. Change the gear(close throttle - clutch - hit gear lever - release clutch - open throttle) as quickly as possible, it works better in Pulsar. This is bit different from other bike. Of course, when u do this, careful in city traffic!:)

  1. Finally, looks. Very few people have a different opinion here. I rate this at 10/10

  2. Misc features: LED tail lamp looks excellent. I have seen this one malfunctioning very often, but so far, no issues. Auto cancelling indicators are a bit troublesome. Intially I thought indicator buzzer is not required, but now feel it is required. Many times, indicator gets off, much before you take a turn, esp. in City traffic. Side stand indicator light is good. Advance reserve indicator may not be of much use. Somehow, I liked classic speedo compared to digital. Fuel indicator is good. However, it can never give exact reading and only display is digital, not measuring mechanism I guess. This is the same case with classic fuel gauge. Head lamp is a bit disappointing. I think no other bike comes close to TVS in this department. As far as seating position is concerned, I think normal seat is better than bucket seats, but don't have an option.(Im slighly over 6 feet)

Big question is fule consumption: I have got an average of 48 so far with rpm maintained around 4000.(that means, speed around 50 to 60). I heard it around 50 to 55 kmpl, but need to check few more times to get a better reading.

Overall, I am quite happy with this one so far. Will update further when I cross 2000kms and push it harder to reach 90 or 100 on highways. Engine has become smoother after first service, and I believe, it will further improve after second service. Unicorn is definitely better here, but I think it has lesser compression ratio(and hence not so efficient in fuel consumption compared to Pulsar)

It is a pleasure to ride this bike. I always felt it is aking me to push it further. Turn the throttle for a couple of seconds, it asks you to change the gear and speed up. This bike is about acceleration, brake, and total control with excellent handling.

Further updates will follow after 2000+ kms / next service. Please suggest if any of the reader have got better results with special engine oil/petrol additives.

Pulsar, Definitely Male.
Jul 27, 2008 12:13 PM 2375 Views

Pulsed 11, 000 km on the dial and so now I feel it’s the right time to write what I have experienced pushing this machine (or rather this machine pushing me) to greater adrenalin pumping ranges. If it was not for this machine I would have been tamely commuting 30 so-so Kms regularly by those 20 feet long Ashok-leyland, maintaining straight tyre marks throughout the Sion –Panvel stretch.

Performance:

Based on the way I drove this 13.5bhp basanti, hmmm… basanti, because it has never, I mean it, never put me down in case some urchin with his set of valves tapping over some 148-149cc metal drum and extra decimal horses , tried to chase but gave up. Perhaps not made to race. Trust me, get on wheels of a mere Pulsar 150, that I drive, though u have option for one of the three elder brothers, and u will never feel any kind of lag in performance. It feels like a heavy weight torpedo fully under control, making way, darting ahead. Max I could try 112 kmph on the Palm-Beach road. Truly a heavenly feel. But this fun obviously forces u frequent pit-stops, so lets c its…

Fuel Efficiency:

Commuting at 42 kmph and 3300 rpm the mechanism will return u mileage figure somewhere between 50-55 kmpl. Whereas, throttling to 100 kmph clocking 8300 rpm, you’ll be left with only 38-40 kmpl. (Based on the daily drive from Anushaktinagar(BARC) to Juinagar (15kms), no signal, no traffic). This machine is much smoother than the previous 150 variant giving a serious competition to the Honda’s Unicorn, known for its whispered roar. A good factor but then I think it lacks that masculine feel. Nither do I luv the way Apache rumbles coz it gives off more of tappet noise. (Khrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr… not my type)

Maintenance:

And then who says maintenance is high. I was to buy the 180cc but the vendor told me about its high maintenance cost. This bike has never asked me for a medical check up, rather, I had to take it to the mechanic coz the dusty manual told me to. Only thing he had to do was oil change, chain greasing and body polishing. During the fifth servicing the mechanic asked me to change the spark plugs, although no complaint against them, I did, simply to prevent unexpected breakdown in future.

Complaints:

Yes, on the first checkup I had a small complaint. The headlight had a higher intensity slightly towards the right side. This made it little difficult for me to judge the road at speeds in excess of 65kmph at night. There was nothing the mechanic could do. I got used to it, no choice. One more thing, the handle bar pivot unit started to show its true color as the bunch of keys rubbing against it erased it off. The same part on my friend’s Unicorn bearing same date of purchase is still shining.

Quality & Stability:

The parts installed on a Pulsar are said to be of cheaper quality. Pulsar’s starter unit compared to a Honda is toooooooo rough. Spend time examining the way a Unicorn starts. U would fall in love. He kicked me for cranking his engine again and again for the sheer pleasure of studying the Honda’s passion for quality. Simply unique. Starting is a matter of milliseconds for him and seconds for me but after the four stroke cycle holds, its milliseconds for me and seconds for him to gain pace. Never did I felt this motor bike shivering at top speeds, inspite of the cross sea winds on the Vashi bridge. It induces a strong confidence in you to race on. I had once collapsed at the RK chowk due to slippery road, but I had bent too much. Now should we say that the bike doesn’t hug road?? No, can’t generalize. But are these machines and the roads meant for such stunts? Except for a micro-scratch on the metal end of the handle bar, there was no physical change on the body. It really proved a best safety factor, not available in the Hondas. Now if u understand structural rigidity u will not say Bajaj has installed cheap parts in it, none of the parts- switches, indicators, foot rest, mirrors have tried to suicide. Foolish to quote them cheap.

Technology:

Digital twin spark ignition, that’s DTSi., patented, an innovation by the Bajajs, ensures complete combustion of fuel and gives best mileage in its class. The exhaust pipe boosts ExhausTEC. Whats that? People used to ask me. It’s a small swirl chamber branching out of the silencer pipe below the oil sump. This reduces drag at lower range of speed by clearing off the exhaust easily, increases torque, ensuring quicker pickup. The digital speedometer doesn’t seem too peppy. The analogous was better. Also the digital fuel gauge often gives false level. Sometimes the backlight in the display fails to glow until u have to stop and restart the engine. Gearbox is comparatively smoother than the previous ones. Not even a single instance of false neutral. However, occasionally in the upper range of speed the gear slips to the immediate lower one. No idea if anyone else has ever experienced that.

Ergonomics and design:

Chiseled looks of the rear and the headlight assembly are admired the most, but somehow the bulky, out of proportion fuel tank has no takers in the design house of Bajaj. Take some lessons from the craftsmen of the beautiful Apache. Why do u want to copy and paste the same tank shell for all the four siblings (150, 180, 200, 220) and perhaps for the yet to come 300 too?? Ergonomically the riding position for this machine is extremely sporty and comfy. Slightly higher for the pillion rider though. The rear grab bar needs some correction. Remember that friend of mine who rides Unicorn, Manoj, often says that the rear side panel of my machine would come off some day if I was to do sudden accelerations again. It is difficult for him to hold the grab bar to ensure his bums maintaining contact with the bike all the time. Instead he holds the side panels. In view of this I tried to mount those sporty split grab bars borrowed from the elder. It was worst. Now my friend fears sliding off if I hasten more. But the bike looks beautiful with split grab bar. Rear mud guard vibrates bit too much. Sharing the Silencer pipe, indicators, rear view mirrors and the rear wheel mud-guard with the younger specie from Bajaj’s stable doesnot give pulsar a unique identity. But overall design has proved itself in the market since its launch in Nov 2001 and subsequent revisions thereafter, giving it a fresher look, innovative technology and revised top speed every time.

Pulsar DTSi only looks nothing else
Jul 01, 2008 11:57 PM 2850 Views

Well I had a chance to ride the all new pulsar dtsi 150 and belive me I was on the top of the world when I sat on the bike, I felt like john ebraham for the 1st 6 to 7 minutes but as the time started passing I saw the reality, and the reality was the goddddddddd pulsar is really really unconfortable to drive and the back starts paining.

Slowly slowly ur undergarments start streching and u really end up feeling very very unconfortable after a just 15 minute of run, all ur style fades in front of ur pain in the bottom part so take my word if u just a wanna display the bike it is the probebly the best bike but if u really wanna ride it and ride it long well think again before buying .......... funny thing CT100 of bajaj is more confortable to ride than pulsar pittyy the engeniers of bajaj sorry sir I didnot like your bike

Pulsar vs xtreme
May 28, 2008 05:11 AM 3640 Views

Guys CBZ-X really rocks. Don’t look it in pic, it really look cool when u personally see it. It has a great power than Pulsar. I owned a Pulsar which is really a waste of money for me. I demand high maintanance don’t even generate that power and milage. One thing to note is Pulsar don’t even have any resale value. U will get penny for thousands of buck spent. I owned a CBZ-X and is really rocking bike. It is best in 150 CC segment. Another fact is Pulsar says it 150 cc but is little greater than 147 CC but when u turn on to CBZ-X they give what they promise. Its just a little less than 150 actually it is 149.6 CC.

For all those who has been fooled by Pulsar plz don’t make urself king of fools by discussing good thing about Pulsar, go and just ride a CBZ-X.

For Pulsar its just a jerk… New Pulsar with digital meter is the biggest jerk, with Fuel tank like a pregnant woman and a rear like dog suffering from Polio. What they want to tell ppl by copying the rear lamp from the Karizma…? God knows….

And for Apache… It don’t even have the height for a sports bike… It seems that it is good for the dwarfs…Good news for the dwarfs that Apache launched a bike for them….

CBZ-X will always rock….

Pulsar 150 or Unicorn ??
May 22, 2008 06:39 PM 2712 Views

I want to buy a bike in 150 cc segment; I am confused between P 150 and Unicorn?

It’s a very common dilemma among new buyers. Please help me out

My preferences/ requirements are:

*Mileage, Looks, & least maintenance

Daily travel of 30-35 KM in Bangalore traffic

Budget 70 K, *

Both the bikes have equal supporters. I will not be changing bike often so I want a bike that can be kept for longer period say 5-6 years. The bike

should be powerful for daily usage.

Also I am confused for colour. I want to buy Blue colour but few of my friends

say the colour looses grace n luster after few months and the re-sale

value of a rare colour like blue would be less.

Please suggest which bike & colour should I choose ? I'll be thankful for

your inputs. Or if there is any other bike that fits my requirements then do

suggest that too.

Thanks & Regards

Pulser150old to pulser150digital
Apr 20, 2008 02:40 PM 2508 Views

I was sold 150pulser and buy 150dtisdigital, I had using since 2002 and roughly drive over 85000km old one.one thing I notice in my driving old one have good power , pick up and smooth start compare to new one.new one knowingly sound come.i not satisfied with new one compare to my old pulse 150 kick start.in look new one is better and it seating arrangement is much comfortable then old one.only problem is sound , pick up and starting.

I have purchased last month and I felt that it is given me only 40km/lt average in average speed between 35 to 55 km/hrs.

I hope company are receive messages from market about it's product and try to handle it. One thing I sure that no company will give "takkar" to pulser. They all are try copy it's look, style but they all are 'bunder'

Reasonable bike - Engine & Sprocket modification
Apr 15, 2008 10:41 PM 7243 Views

I purchased pulsar 150 dtsi in year 2004. I love the bike mainly because at that time it was one of the best looking. It gives me 50 kmpl mileage in Bangalore city traffic. It has a reasonably good shock absorber and hence the ride quality is reasonably good. Infact I have driven it all the way from Bangalore to Kanyakumari a distance of around 750 kms without much tierdness. Its a very stable vehicle and is confidence inspiring even when driven rashly. Best if driven smooth.

I maintain my bike well and drive at reasonable speeds and rarely go for some rash driving. I find it maintenance free.

The bike is designed with average to tall gear ratio. Bike makes 60 kmph speed at 4000 rpm which is fairly good for long drives.

I personally find that the bikes power eventhough on paper is around 14 bhp doesnt feel that way in reality. At high speeds its not that responsive and CBZ extreme or unicorn would beat a pulsar.

Overall its an average to good bike.

Modification Part 1 - Engine

Pulsar with charismatic heart  -(engine modified to 6656.4 mm

bore * stroke dimension) Oversquare engine.*

I have a pulsar 150 dtsi 2004 model. The bike had done around

36000 kms and running nicely. It had no issues. I just wanted

to de carbonize the engine and enhance the performance and

efficiency. I knew a mechanic near my house(Ganesh) who is good at

engine modification/restoration kind of work.

One fine day took my vehicle to his garage. He suggested me to

go for a engine over haul. So we decided to dismantle the

engine and found a good amount of carbon deposit in the

cylinder head, valves, piston etc.

He suggested to get the engine rebored, the inlet and exhaust

ducts machined / polished with slightly higher diameter. This

enhances fluid flow to and out of the cylinder. Adding to this

he suggested to go for new pistons and valve sets.

I had a wild thought of going for increasing the cubic

capacity of the engine. So we discussed and I gave him a free

hand to experiment.

After two days I got a call from him saying that we can try Karizma's(Hero honda) piston and bore. I gave him the green signal and after a day we got the engine head and body rebored to accomodate the bigger bore of karizma  and new karizma piston(original bore of pulsar stands at 57 mm diameter against the karizma bore at 66mm).

He assembled the engine which took another whole day. And now my engine has 66mm(bore) and the stroke remains unchanged at the original dimension of 56.4 mm(stroke) which translates to 192.86 cc close to the pulsar 200 dimensions:)

The cost of machining came to 3250 Rs(INR). This includes the reboring, new karizma piston, valve setting, crank / connecting rod resetting(because my original connecting rod had a minor shake), head polishing, inlet and exhaust ducts machining for enhanced fluid flow etc.

Spare parts costed around 3500 Rs. Totally it costed me around 8000 Rs including labour charge. This overall cost could vary based on your existing engine parts condition whether we can reuse existing parts or have to go for certain replacements.

Just got the vehicle done yesterday and now its in the run in period so am driving carefully keeping the engine revs below 4000 rpm. I can feel the difference in power.

The end result is a over square engine . A over square engine(like the one offered in Apache RTR 160 bike) is an engine with the bore(diameter of engine cylinder) size being more than the stroke(cylinder length or piston travel distance). Over square engines are known for enhanced power and slightly lower torque. They can run at higher rpms than square or undersquare engines.

Overall engine efficiency will be good with slight reduction in mileage. I can give a better detail after the run in period or after the vehicle has run in around 1500 kms.

The expert who did this is Ganesh, the mechanic from Munnekolala, Marathalli, Bangalore.

You can contact him on 9964839731

He is not so well conversant in English but can communicate in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil.

Modification Part 2

Date 29-08-2008

I replaced the original 44 teeth rear chain sprocket with a 36 teeth sprocket(Sprocket designed for bajaj M80). The fitment holes on this sprocket didnt match the ones for pulsar. So I had to contact a nearby machine shop guy for drilling holes accurately as per pulsar's dimensions. Total cost was 125+100 I mean sprocket+drilling cost. Then I did the sprocket replacement and my pulsar is cruising comfortably at 80 - 90 kmph speeds, am getting better mileage but the initial pickup is compromised a bit.

Since I am not so particular about high pick up I personally liked this comfort crusing. Especially if you are mostly drive alone(i mean without pillion) you can get better mileage roughly around 10 kmpl plus.

Trivandrum India
Pulsar LCD Display
Apr 14, 2008 03:08 PM 2742 Views

I brought a brand new Pulsar 150 (LCD) an year back. I havent used it for nearly 8 months from the date of purchase. Now it clocks 3500 kms. Its smooth to ride but I do  face few problems when compared with the previous version(without LCD).

I believe it lacks the  power it had when compared with the older version(without LCD)  I havent pushed it to its limits but I do feel like it struggling when speed goes above 65. Feels quite a lot of knocking when tacho clocks above 6000 rpm. Another thing which worries me is tat I get approx 55 km/litre when I maintain speed of 45-55 km, but goes wel down to 48-43 km/litre when speed crosses 65km/hr.

Is it due to the new upgrade of engine  from 143cc to 149cc? Wel, tat's.the  version from my nearest service station..... Please help me in this regard.

A Good City Bike for all purposes..
Mar 28, 2008 11:54 AM 2399 Views

On April, it will be exactly two years, when I got my Pulsar 150 DTSI. It has been mostly used in Dlehi/NCR roads and presently it has clocked a mileage of 22500 Kms. I believe the bike has been used quite extensively for me.

First the cons:

When it completed its first year of existence with me its rear shockers were giving problem. The service people told me that it was due to some settings problems and they had rectified it. Initially I thought since I am myslef overweight a little hence the impact, but nevertheless it has been rectified.

One problem that I have faced from the begining is with the very hard clutch. As in Delhi's roads you have to use the clutch regularly, my wrists start to pain simetimes. I have used other Pulsars to and they have smooth clutches, I don't know maybe this is a problem with my specific bike onyl.

The Pros:

Well, rest everything in this bike is a pro. Though I have only once or twice rode it over a 100 kms, the performance is really good. As I get it serviced farily regualrly almost every 2500 kms I guess hence the problems are less. As per the service centre I had the timing chain washed twice and upon reaching 20, 000 kms my cluctch plates were changed, that were only time when I had to put a strain on my pocket for its servicing.

It must be mentioned, as mentioned by   most of  you, that the pick up even after doing 2 years and 22500 Kms is as fast as it was when I bought it. Even parts like the battery, lights, horn, tyres they have performed beautifully, maybe a result of the regular service.

It is doing more than 50km/l and it has been constantly used for 35 kms a day, hence I think its a good all purpose city bike, though can't comment hoe it functions on longer runs in highways as hev'nt experimented with it on ahighway as yet.

Good Bike but Tyres Sucks!!
Mar 26, 2008 09:19 AM 2667 Views

I have purchased a Bajaj Pulsar DTSi on 16th Feb from Amba Bajaj Bangalore. I would like to thank the dealer and staff for their good way of customer relationship.

Coming to the bike, it is very good in control, looks and giving me excellent mileage also. Well, here you feel the way Bajaj makes money:- Even after paying 67, 000 for a bike, I have got real poor quality tyres with my bike. Its branded as "EUROGRIP" something I never heard before.

The Road grip is absolutely poor and I would request every one who is going to buy a new pulsar to be specific on good tyres, and clearly mention the Dealer to give a bike with MRF Zappers instead of low quality tyres.

I had read many reviews in mouth shut before going for the new bike, but nobody have mentioned this problem in the reviews.

Also, there are some problems arises with the gear system from the very first week, it makes a cranky noise while shifting the gear sometimes. I have mentioned this in the first service notes, but so far its not rectified.

I don't want to push  any of the wise users to this mistake  who respect the value of their money!!

Chennai India
Ultimate bike with its own limitations
Mar 06, 2008 03:09 PM 5344 Views

Just want you all to be aware of some facts which I experience with my Pulsar DTSi (A very proud owner in fact). When I was planning to go for a 2 wheeler, I opted for Pulsar only because of its astounding looks and its not so bad feedbacks. I waited for the DTSi models to arrive and got one in 2004, but now I became a die hard fan of this Bajaj Product.

First thing which everyone concern about,

  1. The Mileage..

Its exceeds your expectations in terms of its mileage economy. This is a sure winner in this category. It gives me around 50kmpl in Chennai city traffic (remember it is in its 5th year and I wont stop the engine while waiting in signals). If I took it for a long drive, it just surprises me with its mileage counting above 60 (+ 4 or 5)kmpl.

  1. Handling & Control

You dont have to be young and energitic to handle it properly. It can be well handled by people of all age groups. My sister used to tell that handling Pulsar is comfortable compared to some 100CC bikes. What more could you expect from it. Brake at speeds above 50kmpl and it comes to a halt within 3 secs. But dont blame me in case of any mishaps, it depends on the driver too.....

Control -

Awesome......

Disc brakes are too dangerous....(I bet Somebody would have told you this)

Inside city traffic, only bikes without disc brakes are vulnerable to most accidents. Not talking about rash drivers, around 55-60kmph speed, this large beast can be easily controlled by your finger movements with normal reflex actions.

Note here I am not talking about those who listen to music or use mobile phones while driving

In fact it is one of the most safest bike if you are driving within the limits.

  1. Looks

Its definitely male........

Any objections out there.

I havent heard negative comments about its looks till date.

  1. Comfort

Till now I have driven a lot of vehicles and I can say that Pulsar is one of the best. I am sure people who have been using this bike wont even compare this with any other bikes.

  1. You dont need to sit bending towards front while driving, if not may be you need to adjust your handle bar, but avoid using different handle bars apart from Pulsars.

2. Accelerator cable, clutch engaging are smooth. If not change the cable, but this does not happen for first 1 - 1.5 years normally.

  1. Braking is effective,no need to brake too hard (even not recommended)

  2. *Build quality is good

5. **Smooth shock absorbers

Settle in your own comfortable position

Visually check your tyre pressure

Be Aware of your fuel levels

Check your brakes

Kick start

Vroommmmm...............

  1. Reliability

Here comes the main topic...

You might have come across the legendary CD100 from Hero Honda and RX100 from Yamaha which came into the road during the 1980s and still available in the roads. But note that even Hero Honda and Yamaha could not attain that level of excellence in their current products.

1. The body painting itself has to be improved particularly over the metal parts and engine

It goes off gradually as time passes.

  1. The overall vehicle wiring has to be improved (been better in the latest vehicles).

  2. The quality of the electronic parts should be improved bcoz not all parts in all vehicles withstand to the same level. But anyway its OK with Bajaj as most spares are cheaper than compared to its competitors.

  3. The side stand indicator sensor switch is a problem with old vehicles, but now the side stand has been slightly modified particularly to solve this issue.

  4. Switches not upto the mark.If Indicator switch goes wrong, the whole setup(costs upto 450rs) has to be changed. Bajaj should do something about this as this will cost to the customers.

Anyway Bajaj has been constantly working with Pulsars to improve its quality continously. Hats Off to Bajaj

I face some problems with idling often, but still I love my Pulsar. But I can say for sure that those problem swhich I am facing has been resolved with their new engine, particularly with their Exhaustec series engines, they have reached a new level of refinement and gained respect.

Whatever it may be, you need to be a good (atleast a not so bad) driver, bcoz it will be safe for you and your vehicle. But dont be too much particular about anything. Nothing is perfect. Even you and I are not perfect.

*Note

  1. Driving within the recommended speed and within the senses, its a real treat to have this

  2. Check the service centre and service persons before servicing **as they are the real problem. They really do something wrong and that leaves you making regular trips to your service station.

*Bajaj should come up with their own service centres like Maruti as it will be a very good move to prove themselves that they are the best.

*Thanks for your time

Regards

Bajaj Pulsar – the edge of excitement
Jan 25, 2008 07:15 PM 4796 Views

I bought this 150cc bike 2 years back(2005) with 15000 km on the dial. I wont go into any detail of the bike as every tom, dick, harry have it but just give my experiences with it in these 2 years.

When all the young Indian bikers are in search of a powerful road beast which can zoom across all types of Indian roads, bajaj has nicely captured that requirement with this bike and shown the path for the other players to come in. Infact they came up, even coming up now and then with many refinements for the technology used in this bike, which keeps the bike new with lots to explore kinda.

P.S: These facts are true for the Pulsar 150cc 2005 model with all regular services done.

Engine- It comes with a 2 year warranty, even there’s no degradation in performance after that as mine has crossed 2 years.

Build Quality – This is where bajaj had compromised, the parts are not reliable in the long run. I got the silencer replaced in the warranty period as it started rusting.

Spare parts- bajaj spare parts are cheaper in cost than any other player, so less for maintenance- light on your pocket.

Mileage- Its never below 50 kmpl for mine, at what speed I rip. offcourse I didn’t do above 80 kmph.

Performance- I travel 35 km daily and it never let me down, may be the reason is due to regular maintenance. The pick up is great, u will be the first one to move ahead when the green comes.

Handling- its great rather I can say Wow! you can definitely feel that u ride a 150 cc not a 100cc.

Braking- There are two essential points for a rider for stopping the bike without any              glitches

1)      you must estimate the amount of braking you must use to avoid hitting the obstacle- this you can get once you are used to the bike until then don’t go for high speeds.

2)      Your confidence level, confidence level is direct proportional to accident avoidance.

Finally words what I can say is if you are above 5’ 9’’ go for it else go for apache rtr.

tune the engine at lowest when you do this the engine become soft and you will enjoy the ride in bike

the pulsor can be buy  by any people, there ias no age limit for to get pulsor.

I love pulsor i'm mad about it, im craze on it

Classic bike, sturdy and good value bike

I have bought this bike exactly 3 years back on the same date. Till now I have not repented about buying this buy. Till date it gives me 58-59 kms/ltr(if you drive at a avg speed of 55kms which is ok speed in bangalore seeing the traffic condition). I used to give it for service every 2500kms and chnaged the oil and maintained it very well. I have gone long drives of almost 300-400kms at a stretch in one day and I have clocked almost 43000kms on the speed-o-meter, so I think what I am writing makes some sense for those who want to go for this bike.

Simple mantra is don't give too much of acceleration and don't apply brakes and clutch where it is not needed. Slow down the bike when you know there is a hump almost 50-100mts away. Don't change the gears roughly. Handle the bike nicely and it will give you good returns. MAIN THING IS WHEN YOU ARE FILLING THE PETROL FILL IT IN THE EARLY MORNING OR AT LATE NIGHT. The reson being, from morning after the sun comes out until the sun goes down the density of pertol will be less because of heat. so when they fill petrol even this will be considered and u will get less petrol.during cool timings like late evenings or early morning the density will be higher and u will get more petrol for your money.

Never-the-less people who want to buy good sturdy, reliable and trouble free bike then go for this one.Handle with care and it will handle you with care

Thanks

Looking for a reliable product - Avoid this
Oct 17, 2007 02:12 PM 5027 Views

I've been using my Pulsar from past three plus years. I selected Pulsar above CBZ is mainly because of the looks and features which it had. Something like Switch start, DTSi etc were very new for Bikes at that time. I've my friend who booked Unicorn at the same time. We were always comparing these two bikes.

After over 1000 days of interaction with my pulsar I've reached a conclusion now. "This bike is not worth for a long time companion". Let me make my statements clear. I'm not an expert in discussing the features of the bike or the technology behind the new introductions. Let me talk about this as a common man who got his bike for his daily use.

First of all, let me say Bajaj maintenance cost is too high when compared to Honda & Hero Honda. I guess TVS scores over all these in the 150 plus CC category. In my case, I've been facing problems with the service. Any time I give for service, they do a "Wheel tuning". And also the tyre wobbling never stops. I've seen the same in many pulsars which made me say that it's a consistent issue with almost all pulsars. If you want to try, just speed up (to around 50 KMPH) and leave your arms from the handle for the vehicle to balance itself. You can see the stuff happening. If you are in a downhill ride it is even strong wobbling. Try with other bikes..... This won't happen at all (I've tried the same with Unicorn & Apache).

The spares & service is so costly for us to maintain the bike after the first year (where the free service ends).

Let me talk about the mileage. The mileage keeps going down after the first year. Now I am getting 35 KMPL where in I was getting 50KMPL initially. The unicorn is very well behaving with a mileage of 45KMPL even now. Initially it was in top giving a fair 52 KMPL.

The spare you need to change after each milestones (I meant KMs) I s clearly written on the User manual. If you are going to follow the same, you can spend a Pulsar money for your maintenance. I've calculated the money I've spent on the bike for service/ maintenance. It's clocking almost 20K INR for three years. Looks like Unicorn is a double achiever in this case. It's lesser than 10K.

Having said all these let me make it clear.... Pulsar is good in two things. It's a good music for your ears when a pulsar starts. And the next is the looks. Pulsar is so sportive in it's looks. These are the two places the bike scored. I did not like the new model's tail which vibrates a lot. They could have retained the same tail for the new one as well.

So Guys, my conclusion is that if you are looking for a long time association with your bike then go for Apache or Unicorn. And if you are a guy who really like to have a great looking bike only then you go for Pulsar.
