It's so easy when you know how!
Oct 29, 2007 09:49 PM

I was a serial quitter for 43 years - I'd make it sometimes 24 hours, sometimes 3 hours, sometimes 6 weeks, once actually 4 months - but I never felt  "that's it! I'll never smoke again" until I found WhyQuit - by accident - and learned about addiction.   That's what it is folks - whether you have one a day or two or more packs a day - it's a chemical addiction.

This site is full of information - it explains exactly what happens when you smoke and when you quit smoking.  You don't have to read the scary stuff - the stories of people who died because of smoking - but the information you will receive(and don't forget - you can keep on smoking while you read it all) will make quitting completely within your reach.    The support system that comes from Freedom was, for me, the ultimate icing on the knowledge cake.   When I would quit smoking it became the most important and all-consuming thing on my mind.   But my friends all fell into three groups - those who smoked(and they didn't want to hear about someone leaving their group), those who never smoked(and they don't understand what I was going through) and those who had quit and put it all behind them.

At first I would get lots of praise, support, pats on the back etc but after a few days, they would all forget about it, and there I was all alone with this huge accomplishment which all of a sudden didn't feel so huge.   Or so important.  Or so attractive.  And then I'd backslide.   Bum one.  Then buy a pack.  I didn't understand The Law of Addiction(make sure you read it on WhyQuit).  But with WhyQuit and Freedom you get a whole new bunch of quit brothers and sisters who want nothing more than for you to succeed and who will celebrate with you every step of the way.   But - blow it by having a single puff and you lose the right to that support.  That was enough to keep me quit - the zero tolerance.

So - here I am - 22 months later - smoke free and loving it.  And 100% confident that I will never smoke again.     All thanks to the founders, managers and members of WhyQuit.

How to quit smoking
Oct 12, 2006 03:30 PM

Indeed it is an herculean task! I am not trying to be a damp squib but trust me, I faced lot of problems to avoid taking out another cigarette in hand- I started off like any other person- curiosity and social status! I carried it for nearly 8 years- quitting on and off for 2 months- restarting all over again with a vengeance- I never realized how much I was abusing myself! Each puff took me nearer to heart diseases and the physician asked me to decide whether to live another 10 years or give hope and carry on with my wims and fancies...

The article in mouthshut.com opened my eyes 2 weeks ago- and my son took a vow from me atop a hill near Talacauvery (birth place of river Cauvery) to give up smoking and that did it all- I threw half pack and a lighter down the valley and thanked the guy who gave me the link initiating me to give up smoking.

I can go on and on writing good effects of quitting to smoke. One feels that he is not a slave to tobacoo, do not find himself guilty in public places when people squrim seeing you smoking and above all, you need not wait for the intermission on a long movie in theatres:)

I have gained glow in my face, can climb 8 floors each day to my flat and need not ask my driver to stop near a small shop in the midst of a traffic to grab a smoke...

Hey Guys, those who are all smoking now and never realizing what you have been doing to yourself- just give yourself 3 minutes before lighting the next one and ask "Do I really want this one?" or "What good companion are you to me, Mr. Cig. You are my friend or Foe?"... Make a difference by Quitting to you and to your family.

Good bye, Cig. Welcome Healthy Living.

Quit Smoking Forever
Mar 17, 2005 09:55 PM

This is aplea to all the smokers- if there?s one site you are allowed to visit on the net- make it this site, and your life will be better forever.

This is a site devoted to provide information and support for Quitting Smoking cold turkey (abruptly).

This is one site that respects your intelligence- it assumes that as a rational , intelligent person you have the full freedom, and responsibility for quitting smoking- nothing/no one else is responsible. The focus here is on both freedom, and responsibility.

The amount of knowledge on smoking here is phenomenal, and as you go through article after article , and the MSN site, you start seeing for the first time the extent of the grip the enemy has over you, the physical, physiological tactics, the mental hoops a smoker has to go through to continue smoking, the costs, the potential downsides of smoking, and the potential upsides of quitting.

You will not quit smoking after going through this site- nowhere does the site guarantee this. But if you go through this site- and I?m sure you will be there for a long time- each puff you take after this will be with full knowledge of what you are doing, and how it is affecting you. each puff will be a totally knowledgeable step- and that in itself is first step towards quitting.

As an ex-smoker of 12 years, I say that only https://Whyquit.com has helped me in quitting smoking. it was not easy, but this site only gave me the ammo to fight this addiction.

In case you want someone to quit smoking, do not nag them, or make impassioned pleas, or give ultimatums, or ?kasam?. Let them know that there is a site https://whyquit.com ; you can hold back and watch the smoker doing some serious thinking about smoking- and very possibly quit.
