Scribendi Reviews

Not what I expected
May 10, 2019 02:09 AM3778 Views

Scribendi gave me an editor who had nothing to do with my dissertation topic "structural engineering." It looks like they did Canadian English even though I specified American. It was basically a total waist of money. I was very frustrated by the whole thing. Does anyone know a good editor?

Last year it was ok. This year, it's a total scam.
Apr 28, 2018 09:30 AM6300 Views

When I submitted my editing request, I requested an editor with whom I worked with last year. However, this year, ScriBendi assigned a random editor EM1000 and said "this editor has similar experiences and are professional". It turns out what the editor did is saying "The only issue was that of pronoun agreement(i.e., referring to the singular "lover" as "they.") I fixed this by changing "they" to "the lover" or to "him or her, " etc. "

Oh my lord, I wrote very detailed about my marking criteria and my expectations. The editor apparently didn't bother to read it at all. Just spent two minutes and blah something. That's it.

Avoid ScriBendi if you can. Find a better one.

I gave it one star because nothing is lower than one.

ExcellentI don't recommend this website as thier main concern is to take your mony regardless your grade or your satisfaction. I sent them my dissertation and they returned it with a reduction of 3000 words which makes me in avery bad situation as the delivery was before one day of the submission date. I asked them to review it a gain and return the word count as it is but they refused so I submitted my original work. I paid 340 GBP for nothing.

I do not recommend this company
May 10, 2017 08:29 PM10710 Views

I went to these guys for edit of a paper and, although they say the offer services with form and content, this was not provided. After the second edit my document was rejected because it did not follow the correct form and when I informed the company they said the edit was fine there is nothing more they can do. Although they advertise "we can act as your virtual assistant, editing your papers to make them stronger, clearer, and more concise. We can proofread your final drafts too, making sure your paper is judged on merit, and not rejected because of spelling and grammar mistakes. We can also deal with those tedious author submission requirements, making sure your document complies with your target journal's style." They only provided light copy editing. services. I expected more, as I paid for more and I received light copy editing. Also, because my first edit was so poor I had to have a reedit which took time and the second edit was a rejected document.

ScriBendi late unfinished poorly edited paper
Dec 13, 2016 08:25 AM13386 Views

I've never wrote any bad reviews and I have never had this much of problem with a company in my entire life.

Do not trust this website with your papers. I submitted my paper for a 12 hr editing service and I insisted on the fact that I need help with my citation, cause they were suppose to be in Chicago style and I had no idea how to do it. And, I got my paper 24 hours later, unfinished paper with vague notes on how to do citation in Chicago style. I found some unrelated sentences being added to my paper as well. I was charged for a great deal of money and I expected at least a complete job with no grammatical error and be delivered on time at least. I had to pay another 100$ to other company to do my citations. Since that night I tried to call their customer service and emailed them several times, but I got no answer. Overall I feel being fooled by trusting them and paying them that amount of money for a very poor, late paper being sent back to me. I had to write this to prevent other students who care about their paper and assignments from such a disaster happening to them.

Wanna see a perfect ex. of a badly edited book?
May 15, 2016 07:08 AM22743 Views

Anyone want to see a badly edited book by this company? Just go to Amazon.com . look up Maid Not For You . read my sample. I paid for development editing and copy editing . but basically had my book edited for it's grammar TWICE.

The issues with my italics were never resolved. I had asked both editors if my way of using italics would be a problem, and if they can resolve them for me, but they never did . even if they said they did. This is what I got for 3500 bucks.  Sure, you get what you pay for. But I was on a budget and felt I had no other options.

Even the summary and outline was poorly written. My 12 year old nephew, who's being home schooled, could have done better; I'm almost sure.

My very first reviewer would complain about the crazy usage of italics . which by now I thoroughly get. She was pretty obnoxious about it all, even went from 3 stars to 2 later on. But again, I get her beef with the italics overload.  Basically in the past, I was trying to use italics, not only as a way of emphasizing meanings/titles, but also as a way of sarcasm. Truth be told, I tried to resolve this through Scribendi during the editing process . and yet, they never delivered. There are also other issues with my edition, but you can see for yourself after reading the sample. No need to buy, the sample is enough to show you. Scribendi, you are a horrible and dishonest-LAZY!-company. Never again. You have no appreciation how this has seriously hurt my book and my life.

Awesome Company and Service!!!

Every review on here is fake; just let me tell you that. I have used this company multiple times for papers that I have due in Comp 2, and they are great.

My papers look amazing after they get a hold of them. All of the errors are changes. Plus, you get a copy of exactly what they did! Trust me, it is worth it. As a college student, I know how much a few dollars can go, but I will not hesitate to use this company.

FREE editing! Scribendi will screw workers for you
Oct 17, 2015 11:36 PM34067 Views

Absolutely appalling company. The reviews here must be written by staffers there. This is a dreadful place to work and as a result sub-par editing. I worked there until 6 months ago. If you break your back editing and practically rewriting the worst written documents for what turns out to be minimum wage and turn an unreadable document around into something respectable, if the client complains, even if your work passes the quality check standards, they will screw you out of your money and refund the client.

So to all clients: IF YOU WANT YOUR UNREADABLE DOCUMENTS MAKE FANTASTIC, COMPLAIN AND YOU'LL GET YOUR MONEY BACK.

Why should you care about the editors? Scribendi sure doesn't.

If you're an editor and are ok with getting stiffed and disrespected by a company that neither values your skill or your time, by all means work for Scribendi-scrape the barrel.

Got what I needed
Aug 31, 2015 11:49 PM30061 Views

I have never used a service like this before so I wasnt sure what to expect. But I got what I asked for, and I got it on time.

The staff seemed friendly and answered my questions before I ordered. I was wondering if it was all software or outsourced to the philipines but I guess it is not.

So that is good. I will go back when I have another project to do. I think I will try to be more on time to use the cheaper turnaround.

Very impressed
Apr 11, 2015 10:01 AM34067 Views

After trying the free sample edit service, I used their manuscript edit service for my novel draft. I just got it back this week. I was very impressed. In addition to catching a lot of errors, the editor offered many thoughtful, helpful critique-y comments that have really made me think hard about my plot.

I had been dreading getting this edited as I was afraid of what the response would be, but now I'm excited about this project again. I'm going to have a whale of a time with the second draft.

Scribendi editors humiliated and mistreated
Mar 10, 2015 01:24 AM40143 Views

I worked with Scribendi and had the worst experience ever. I actually resigned because I couldn't stand seeing the humiliation that fellow employees were going through. I remember one remote editor was bullied by the HR manager then(I don't know whether she's still there) to the extent that he wanted to commit suicide and the manager(Samantha Russel) cared less and another senior editor.

She even went ahead to say let him do it. I know she can remember this and she'll always feel guilty about it. I don't know what happened to employee since we're not allowed to follow up or even communicate directly to remote editors. That experience still bothers me and I though I think I can get hold of that editor's number I fear contacting him because it was rather disturbing. If you're working with Scribendi, the rule is just be average(do not outperform the senior editors or even the HR lady-madam boss).

That's clients end up with poor work. That's why they keep hiring 24/7.    I also witnessed a fraud scandal within the  company and the editors who were offended promised to blow it out but it seems they were silenced using some other means. The QA checks are also rated using an automated system and editors keep complaining and crying about it because it does not take into consideration many things as a human editor would(i.e., you enter the number of errors and the QA percentage shows up). I would recommend editors to go for other editing sites that are truly concerned about their employees' welfare.

I am really happy with the edit job got from this company. I had a lot of dumb questions before I bought the service, but I got really nice treatment from the lady at their customer service place(thank you nice lady!) with no pressure or up selling or any crap like that.

She even pointed me at the free sample service thingy so I could try it out. Got lots of comments from the editor about stuff I could write better on my book file as well as a ton of corrections on the text itself. And the comments weren't snarky, either, they were kind and helpful, which is good for a clueless and nervous writer noob like me, lol! I would come back here.

Worst ever

Please do not use this website! This is horrible, they are so bad with deadlines. And they have the worst customer service. Its really not worth your money.

I tried their service because their website looks professional but it is opposite. I don't recommend to anyone unless you want to waste your money.

Amazing job!

If you love all things; editing and proofreading, this is the perfect place for you! I was hired with Scribendi.com a little over a year ago, and I absolutely love my job. They're a growing company, so the work is steady and the pay is good. Being a remote editor definitely has its perks; I work from home, manage my own schedule, and pick up tasks as I please(while still working "full time").

They also have a program called "karma rewards" which allows you to earn points when a client requests you, you receive great feedback, etc. Once you've earned enough points, you're able to redeem the points for gift cards at major retailers.

Overall, I love my job here and would highly recommend this company to anyone who is struggling with freelance work, or just looking to find a steady stream of income.

They will work with you
Jul 03, 2014 09:17 PM46586 Views

If you have a problem with your service from Scribendi, they will address any concerns you have. I was disappointed that my sample editor was not used for the final edit that I paid for. They reviewed my edit and upon reviewing it, they agreed that the edit should be redone.  They even asked the amount of time that I wanted it to be completed in. When they redid the edit, I had a very full schedule at the time.  I only had time to quickly review the edit, and at first I believed it to be incomplete like my first. When I complained they immediately agreed to only charge me for a proofread. However, when I finally had a chance to look at the redo, I was quite pleased with it. If you really like your sample edit, just be sure to confirm the editor who did it will be available to edit your book.  Beyond that, be sure to address any concerns with them, and my experience is that they will be happy to work with you.

I'm a college student. I have dyslexia. Huge problem. I have tried a few services, this one is the best so far. I have used them eight times this year. The one time I had a problem, I complained, and I got super friendly customer service. The problem was fixed that day.

Funny enough, I tried them after another service tried to bad mouth them to me too, and the bad mouthing sounded exactly like what I read here, so I think Lynda and Augie are fake.

Read this before deciding to work for them
Jun 21, 2013 05:54 AM20142 Views

Scribendi.com is mistreating editors and every editor out there has to know this before making a decision to work for them. First, there seems to be a large gap between the top management and the juniors. The juniors are only regarded as servants who should be pushed around, threatened, underpaid, and fined for no apparent reason. I worked for this company as an in-house editor and it really pained me seeing what remote editors could go through. If the senior editors do not like you just from the word go, they will do everything within their capability to ensure that the implicate you with something for you to leave, mostly quality issues.

Their quality system is so biased in that it does not take into consideration whether a paper was meant for proofreading or editing, whether it was a complex ESL paper that may need to be edited up to five times to eliminate all grammar errors because of Scribendi and I'm preparing to file a suit; I'll be coming back to give you an update how this goes. Overall, there are more reputable sites to work for and I'll be more than happy to give a full list to those interested.

Their work is excellent
Mar 04, 2013 10:22 PM17869 Views

My first time with them was a great experience. I received valuable comments that pointed to   improve my paper, in addition to the grammar and spelling help.  Service has a commitment.  They state on their website that their primary goal is "to provide clients with fast, informative, and affordable revision services." I think they have reached to this aim. This is the best freelance copy editing service I have used. I would highly recommend their work to anyone.

Some editors are great but some not so good
Jul 05, 2012 09:49 PM19743 Views

Service has a commitment. Prices are high yet reasonable (considering the service). Also in comparison to the others, prices are competitive. Sometimes the work done is excellent, but sometimes it is just average. It depends on the editor to whom your work is allotted. All editors at SCRIBENDI are not equal. Overall the experience is quite satisfactory. I give 7 plus marks to this service on a 10 point scale. Service has a commitment. Prices are high yet reasonable (considering the service).

Great feedback on paper
Feb 10, 2012 03:28 AM18630 Views

I wrote a paper for a college class in color photography. Nothing major, but a short 700 word report on six images that I had to review. I sent the report for their review and it came back within 40 minutes in a much better condition.

The English was much better than mine(which doesn't say much), so I was happy with the results.

I don't know if I was just lucky to get someone good or this is the normal standard, but I will use these guys again.
