*COME TO PINK TOPPED MAYFLOWER TREES EVERYWHERE*
Yelagiri
TAMILNADU as a whole is a state blessed by nature, with so many falls and hillstations.
Let me describe to you the surrounds of this wonderful place, this hill station is connected to
hills reaching up to Kerala, in the season of Jackfruit ripening, Groups of Elephants are reputed
to visit the hills, these hills are 1100 meters high, there is a fantastic curving wide road made
by the government takes you to the top. This road is rising very steeply almost 100 meter on each
bend and there are many bends there.
Just the climb to the top is so exhilarating, you will feel invigorated and fresh and new. The
kilometers of hills are thickly covered with tall trees, mind you tall trees not thorny shrubs,
average size of the trees are 8 feet tall and the cover is green, they hills have a steep slope
ideal for** AIR GLIDING**. During my stay there, Reliance Mobiles were showing no network, but BSNL
is working properly.
*Yelagiri is located in the environs of VANIYAMBADI, this town is the HUB of so many big and great industries, many multinationals chose this town for their factories, the land is very cheap around this town on the main road(Golden Quadrilateral) this is the name given to the highway
connecting 4 major cities of India, Chennai, Bangalore, Bombay and Delhi. This is a 6 way divided highway. The land around here is Rs.5 Lacs per Acre and plenty is available, this is basically agricultural area with lot of Coconut and Herbal plantations. Leather manufacture is the most ideal industry around these environs, as the whole area is a TRADITIONAL ground for Leather workers, the whole population in a sense knows leather making since 100 or more years around here. Vellore is just around the corner, Chennai is 300 or so Kilometer and Bangalore is 150 or so Kilometers. I had the chance to go from Yelagiri to Bangalore by road, I cannot explain to you the greenery and many other wonderful sights all along the way, I will mention Krishnagiri, it has Hills like towers, massive 500 meters big mountain rising out of the earth like the Eiger Mountain in America.*
Lets get back to the Yelagiri sights, it has Mayflower trees among Millions of other trees,
during spring season, the whole hill side looks pink and red topped, I stayed at **TAJ MAHAL** hill
resorts, this was built by a person to entertain his company's visiting buyers, so it is
tastefully made, you wish to stay there permanently at this RESORT. This resort utilized the hill
space to accommodate walkways, swimming pool, tennis court, shuttle court, many other beautiful things, the approach to the rooms are via 15 meter elevated bridges, it makes you feel like you
are on a secret rendezvous, the staff is friendly, there are swings and many tastefully made
sit outs all along this hill station. The owner of this place stays in this resort itself, so you
have no worry of bad management by the staff. Only bad/good thing is they let out very few rooms
hence it is not crowded with people, it lives up to its **TAJ MAHAL** name very well.
I saw all around this place many times, pack of brown jungle foxes, I heard sloth bears visit
this area few times a year, specially when fruits are ripe on the trees, there are many
variety of birds, you will find some water birds in this area, the reason is, there is a lake on
top of these hills, this lake is surrounded by many private property owners, there are few
Christian boarding schools, there are few shops, church, masjid and temples on top of this hill
station. There are many restaurants too.
There is a telescope installed by government to look around the far country side below, you can
see Vaniyambadi, Vellore, Ambur houses, industries, farms, fields, fish farms, Leather Industries
etc., There is boat riding service costing you Rs.10 per ride in the lake, you can hire paddle
boats to take around the lake, there are lot of interesting nooks and corners in these beautiful
hill station. Everything is cheap here, there is a beautiful garden with lot of chairs and
benches and canopies installed by government. I think places like these must be visited, what
else is there after we do our work, leisure time the best time to spend on this hill station,
there is a Express train service brings you up to **Ambur from Chennai**, you can also come to Ambur or Vaniyambadi or Vellore on a train from Bangalore. The best thing is to ride from Bangalore on the **Golden quadrilateral** and reach Vaniyambadi and from here it is just 10 kilometers to Yelagiri. I personally feel this resort can be used as a recuperation or getting well station.
This place hides in itself many medicinal herbs than we know about right now, it is a extension
of a vast rain forest, the slopes of these hills and the country below is best suited for Air
Gliding, infact it will become one of the best Air Gliding training ground anywhere in India. The
air is so calm as the area is away from sea and best air currents. Experts know about these type
of things, but who must go and inform the experts, India, Vaniyambadi, Ambur, Vellore are gems of
many such qualities, they are waiting since centuries for the right accessor.
*Yo! health and abundance of nature with security abounds here in Yelagiri!
