Yanni is definitely one of the best composers around in the world today. He brings the freshness back to music, which has been lost somewhat in the recent past. The best part about his music is that you can delve deep into it and enjoy the complexities or remain on the surface enjoying the simplicity. You can mould yourself to his music at times and at other times the music moulds to your moods. Very coherent and full of melody.
Yanni has done a lot music with simple inspirations from the nature and moods. My favourite compositions from Yanni would be Nightingale, Barcelona Nights and Desire.
Nightingale was first performed in public at his concert Yanni at the Taj in Agra. It is a flute predominant piece with six different kinds of flutes being used. It tries to capture the spirit of a nightingale on a quiet morning. The rendition is and interpretation are both unique and awesome. It is a very good composition which can be used for calming oneself.
Barcelona Nights is distinctly Greek ( as is Yanni) in influence and brings forth a unique mediterranean music. It is mostly played on two guitars and drums. The beginning has mere stringing of the guitars and immediately holds the listener.
Desire is a classic Yanni work. It was first performed before Prince Charles at the Royal Albert Hall. It has a lot of keyboards and drums. Building up the momentum and ending suddenly at the crescendo. It again has a mediterranean touch to it.
Other well known pieces by Yanni would include Chariots of Fire ( used in ConAir ), Keys to Imagination ( Live at Acropolis) - it is a variation of Desire, Swept Away and Aria.
If you havent ever listened to Yanni, I suggest you do so at the earliest. His music can be a real asset to any collection and is worth being cherished.
