If you like to have wonderful wallpapers on your desktop, then Webshots.com is just perfect for you!
I found this site years ago, and promptly downloaded their free software. Since then, my computer screen has never looked the same. I always have some beautiful nature scene or a funny Garfield photo on my desktop!
I tried to recommend Webshots.com to some people (friends and family members of course), who also use computers. Now, I must say that these petty little things like ‘wallpapers’ don’t excite these people. So, the conversation went like this-
“ But what’s the use of this?”
“ Well, you get superb wallpapers for free- they have great photos- nature, sunsets, beautiful places, animals, sports, art- u name it!”
“But what’s the use??? “
“Don’t you think that having a beautiful wallpaper will cheer you up and make your desktop more exciting?”
“No, I don’t think so. Computer is a machine. I use it for work. I am fine with a plain desktop. ‘
“Desktop without any wallpaper- that’s boring!!!”
“Stop acting like a kid.”
Now, they do have a point. Webshots.com is not some ‘essential’ type of service. But it’s a wonderful world of photos. A picture says a thousand words, and Webshots is a proof.
Here’s how you go about it-
1)Go to https://webshots.com, register yourself for free, and download their webshots software.
2)This software stores all the photos, and it will automatically change the wallpaper at preset time intervals. It can change wallpaper every 15 minutes if you want.
3)It also has options like calendar, screensaver, special effects, etc.
4)Then start downloading wallpapers from the various categories. The range is very wide and there is something for everyone. My favorites are Garfield cartoons with witty one-liners and the sunrise, sunset, beach, roses, mountains, water sports, lakes, travel collections.
My biggest favorite is a collection of photos of puppies that are just choo chweeet.
5) The quality of photos is excellent. They also have a search facility.
6)The webshots software can also be used for your pictures, which are not downloaded from webshots.
7)E-cards are available and the photos can be sent as e-cards, too.
8)They have an online store where one can buy posters, mugs, webshots CDs etc.
9)The site is well designed and navigation is simple.
10)There is also one interesting feature- the webshots community, where you can upload and store your own pictures. You can also download pictures made available by other members. There is also one paid membership option. Please check the side for more info on this, since I haven’t used these features.
Now regarding the cons- well, the site can take some time to load, since there are so many photos on each page. The download speed is generally very fast, but can be slow at times. Also, there is a restriction on the number of photos a free member can download each day.
Still, it’s a good place to look for wallpapers.
