Brief History: The Victoria Memorial was actively patronaged by the then Gov General of India, Lord Curzon. It has potraits, pictures and statues of people involved in India's pre-independence era. It is in memory of Queen Victoria, who died in early 1900. It was open for public sometimes in 1920s.


Location: It is a landmark in location of Calcutta. Situated beside Birla Planetorium, and near Nandan, Rabindra Sadan - makes it very close to the heart of Calcutta.


Ambience: The majestic building is surronded by an equally majestic garden and pool. The reflection of the building in the pool is a sight in itself. On the roof of the builing is ''angel of Victory''. A lot of people can relax and have fun in the garden, which is kept open sometimes into the late evening after the monument closes for public.


Collections: It has a tremendrous collection of paintings, manuscripts all over the place. It has statues of Queen Victoria, Lord Curzon and Kind Edward.
