Hi every one, I would like to share my experience when I went to Utharam Kayam. It is a very thick forest & we had enjoyed a lot. We stayed for 5 days. There are lots of medical plants are there in this forest. When we travel really it will be a thrilling experience. It is situated on the top of the Agasthya Hills, in the forests of Neyyar is Utharam Kayam. It is a small strip of land, studded with vegetation that has a predominance of medicinal plants and rich in bird life.
These place are controlled by the Department of Forests and Wildlife, Kerala State. Utharam Kayam has facility for accommodation in the form a tree house, known in local parlance as Erumadam. It will be really very nice to stay on the tree tops, these tree tops are kept in the middle of the forest. Some times the wild animals use to come near that tree house.
For reaching Utharam Kayam, we have to take a boat from the Neyyar Reservoir and proceed to a place called Komba. Alight at Komba and we have to go for trek it was about two kilometers through thick forest to reach Utharam Kayam. Ideal for the adventure minded, Utharam Kayam could be tagged along with a visit to the Neyyar Reservoir.
Nearby attractions at Utharam Kayam include the Meenmutti waterfalls, it is about two kms away & it is also confluence point of rivers. Valliyar(Kerala & Tamilnadu border), Mullayar and Neyyar dam. There are lots of medical plants are there, these plants are used for ayurvedic medicines. Two years before I went there. When I went there for accommodation they change Rs. 2500 per day.The forest department will guide you for accommodation, trekking etc.They will be with you, while you are going inside the thick forest. Getting there:
If you are going by road you can go to Neyyar dam site which is well connected by regular bus services from Thiruvananthapuram city.
