Worse than being called a bad movie, this movie is a forgettable one. Get ready for possible spoilers that may just save you an overpriced ticket and 2 hours in a dark room not well spent. First, the characters: terribly one dimensional, terribly boring— I have to look up their names. Didn’t care for our protagonist, didn’t care for our antagonist( s) . I don’t mind edgy protagonists! .When they’re well written. The first red flag was during an introduction of Lisbeth now an adult, running through a party just to sit at a window, smoke a ciggarrete and brood. ( Ooh wow) . Lisbeth’s emotional range acting is of that of Bella in the Twilight series. There was nothing particularly interesting about her, rendering her as a disposable character. Her other hacker friend would have probably led a more interesting story in her place. He’s the true hero. In fact, I was almost excited to hear Alona’s passing comment about his hacking past, only not to be followed up upon. Then he suddenly has a gun- ok. Camilla. oof. Listen, if you have to sexually abuse a female character, much less as a minor, in order to pull the easiest sympathy card to throw at the audience and blatantly point out whose the bad guy. that’s bad writting. There’s many ways to appropriately incorperate ( sexual) abuse into your story; but this ain't it. Especially how it’s treated so cheaply.
