Tashan is one of the few Indian movies, which has been promoted straight away and without a glimpse of its storyline. The word Tashan actually means'Style'. Though here, It has been basically considered to be'Attitude'. Tashan was the most hyped and awaited film of this season. If you are expecting a good, action packed, comedy joyride. Kill your expectation right here. Coming straight to the point. Tashan actually has only Tashan and nothing else.
Plot:The story relies on an absolutely waferthin plot, revolving basically around the four characters.
1. Bhaiyajee(Anil Kapoor): Who is a don and involved on all kinds of taboo activities like kidnapping, robbing and murdering. He has a fascination for speaking english and ends up in speaking Hinglish for most of the time.
2. Jimmy(Saif Ali Khan): Works in a call center, fluent in english. And currently is teaching Bhaiyajee'How to Speak Good English'. Though, its quite a time of both being together. Jimmy still is stunned with Bhaiyajee's crap speechs.
3. Pooja(Kareena Kapoor): Works for Bhaiyajee in order to clear the debts taken by her father some time ago.
4. Bachchan Pande(Akshay Kumar): A wannabe don. Who has come from Banaras to work for Bhaiyajee.
It begins when, Pooja and Jimmy fall in love and rob off Bhaiyajee of a whooping Rs. 25 Crore sum. But, Pooja cheats Jimmy too, and then disappears. Now, Bhaiyajee wants his money back. In order to this, He appoints Bachchan Pande to trace Pooja. Now Jimmy and Bachchan manage finding Pooja. But, again Pooja and Jimmy team up, and Pooja lures Bachchan from not telling anything to Bhaiyajee. But, Pooja falls in love with Bachchan:P. What will happen?
*Ah! Could you understand anything? Lots and lots of buts?:D [Omit]. Well, I can't write anything more cause that was all I could make out from the movie. If you still want to ask something. Ask. Will tell you:).
Direction:** Tashan has been written as well as directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. I highly doubt, if this guy really wrote'Guru'. The script might be easy to understand or imagine, but to interpret and implement such a complex confusing and weak script is a lame thing to do. Zero marks for story telling. I really think, director should have paused every now and then and take the pain of atleast telling a viewer whats happening. Why is everyone getting beaten up? Why is everyone dancing? Huh!. Cinemetography was good, Locales of Greece, Ladakh and Rajhasthan have been nicely captured. Though, the colouring fails to impress, More then 70% of the movie runs in a Sepia background. Screenplay is very weak. Music was good though, its placing is awful. Dialouges are good, but repeatitive, but Anil really needed a support of SUBTITLES.
Performances: The only performance which could just touch the average mark was Akshay Kumar. Though, it is the same character which he has been playing in his last 10 movies. So, nothing new about it. Kareena has nothing to do except for seducing and luring her co-actors, so their aint any place nor scope for her to act. Saif, good in first half, dances horribly and disappears in the second half. Anil Kapoor is pleasing in the begining, but slowly his accent gets on one's nerves. Sanjay Mishra and Manoj Pahwa as supporting actors didn't have anything to do. Wasted.
Positives: The only plus in the movie is Akshay Kumar, you delete him from the movie. The movie is screwed.
Negatives: The movie really has an awful, confusing script which frustrates you after its very 30 minutes. Editing is too bad, 2nd half has numerous crap scenes. Performaces are just fine. Ah! Can't think more. Exhausted.
Overall^. Tashan was not really worth the hype, the hue and the cry. The movie is probably one of the weakest movies of 2008. You've been warned.
