Hello everybody....This is a story about a guy who was desperately trying to find a cheap and efficient solution to communicate via Internet telephony. I was posted abroad for one of the assignments and I was looking for a cheap solution through which I can be in touch with the loved ones back home. My main purpose was not just PC to PC free calls but also a PC to landline calling facility for which you have to pay(peanuts compared to calling abroad using traditional phones). I did a lot of research on the net about the same read reviews, googled few searches, tried some like dialpad.com and others but none could be satisfying enough in terms of reviews, rates, and quality. Then one day Google launched Google talk and that was the first time I heard about SKYPE. I was surprised to know that skpye was already very popular and I haven't yet heard abt it. Nevertheless I researched it and to my satisfaction found it to be good enough. And ironically the launch of google talk helped skype up its popularity than before.

I immediately downloaded skpye and to my surprise the voice feature worked seamlessly behind my office firewall (Yahoo didn't). I asked one of my frnds to install the same and we tested it. The result simply awesome. We didn't believe that we were voice chatting via PC. The was no difference between the voice quality as compared to the landline. I knew this was the right choice for me. Without a second thought I subscribed to skype's paid service to enable my family in India call me to my landline (Note that calling first world countries like US, Japan europe is cheaper than calling countries like India, Bangladesh etc.). It costed less than 2 Rs. per minute to call my destination with amazing voice clarity. Needless to say that I was one more satisfied customer of Skype's vast user base.

Finally after a few days I wasn't surprised to know that ebay has paid a record amount to acquire skype. I guess they(Ebay) too did their homework as I did mine and hopefully had made a right decision.

I would strongly recommend skype to all the netizens out there.

Happy voice chatting,

Venkat
