Medical care and hospitals are only business ventures and seem to be totally losing their sanctity. Tests get done on patients / are admitted into ICU without any valid reason.
We had a similar experience with Sakra World Hospital where we took our 87 year old father who had a fall with Hip fracture on March 16th late evening. He was shifted to ICU from emergency without anyone giving us the ICU cost estimates. By the time we were informed on the charges he was already shifted 10 min back . We might not be medical experts but we can clearly make out that tests needed to be carried out for a likely surgery next day with Oxygen support can be done in the ward too. The next day morning at 9.30am when we informed the ICU Inchargr that we were shifting him to another hospital he was promptly shifted out of ICU support. obviously makes one wonder if he really needed to be put in the ICU first place. We shifted him to another prominent hospital branch in bannerghatta where he got excellent treatment hip surgery and stay at hospital of 8 days. Guess what the end to end bill for 8 days including surgery at Bannerghatta hospital, Sakra consumed 40% of that from 9 pm 16th March till 9 .30 am 17th March next day carrying out tests and consumables in ICU.
We are not medical experts Iam not questioning the futility of tests done but they shifted him to ICU without giving us the estimate and that gives a bad taste.
I met their administrative manager Ms Shoba on21st March informing of the grievance. She said her manager will call me.Iam yet to receive a call which shows how callous these big hospitals are with regards to greivances.
I still waited for another 10-12 days before sharing this here. Giving them the benefit of doubt probably she was busy.
When treatment can be done well within a X cost why do it in 3x. They knew it was not an insurance cashless case but from own pocket.
Please request everyone to double check triple check insist on estimate etc. Even though we are not in that state of mind when we wheel our dear ones to the hospital looking at the behaviour of some hospitals it's in our interest to guard against such money making hospitals.
We totally lost all trust in medical care in that 24 hours but thank god it was reinstated by the other hospital.
He is doing fine, recovery is slow but by gods grace he Is getting more mobile. Pls be vigilant their ICU costs are very high.
