One thing I can say about Rock On. It didn’t make me feel as dated asthis year’s other big hit Jaane tu... did. Like JTYJN it’s eminentlywatchable and great timepass but be prepared for moments of deja vu. Haven’t we seen this somewhere before?
There areDil Chahta Hai moments right thru...the whole male bonding thing seemsright out of Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut though the girls arerelegated to bit roles in Rock On. Chic styling, also remeiniscent ofDCH.
Themusic’s great (for a Hindi movie)and has certainly dug Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy out of that rut they’ve been in but for me the best part was FarhanAkhtar himself...he’s a decent actor and not a bad singer at all nevermind what the critics say.
Shahana Goswami is a natural and so is PurabKohli. Arjun Rampal does what the role requires but he’s so grim andhis expressions so tight most of the time that your jaws ache insympathy. Nice debut for Prachi Desai. Big change from the bahu imageshe’d gotten stuck with no thanks to that ghastly serial on TV. shelooks cute but strange hair...kind of the Addam’s Family look butconsidering she lives in some dark dungeon-like apartment in the moviemaybe it’s just as well!
There’s no great plot to dissect butAbhishek Kapoor’s made a pretty decent entertainer out of a one linestory and that’s pretty laudable. You got the time and the inclinationthis weekend, this is the one to watch.
