~ Love him or Hate him – But you can’t ignore RGV~
RGV is back with a bang with “Not a Love Story” – An intense and highly engrossing movie based on the famous Neeraj Grover Murder Case.
Why I went to watch “Not a Love Story”?
~ The promos looked appealing to me specially the unusual pairing of the lead protagonists & the brilliant use of camera angles
~ Inspite of knowing the Maria Susairaj-Emile Jerome- Neeraj Grover case in detail, I was curious to know how RGV presented it in this movie.
Plot of “Not a Love Story”
~ The movie starts with Anusha Chawla(Mahie Gill) an aspiring actress convincing her possessive boyfriend Robin(Deepak Dobriyal) to allow her to go to Mumbai to fulfill her dreams. Robin is not happy of Anusha’s decision but reluctantly supports her to go to Mumbai.
~ Anusha lives alone in Mumbai. Her struggle to make it big continues but nothing materializes until she meets Ashish Bhatnagar(Ajay Gehi) who goes out of his way and helps her to get a lead role in a movie.
~ Anusha and her friends along with Ashish go to a suburban pub and they drink and party. Ashish shares his feelings to Anusha and she reciprocates and they end up spending the night together at Anusha’s place.
~ Trouble strikes when Next fateful morning Robin lands up in Mumbai without informing Anusha to give her a surprise and surprisingly finds Ashish naked. Robin unintentionally kills Ashish and what follows thereafter shakes the entire nation.
Strengths of ==“Not a Love Story”==
~ The movie is fast paced and not lengthy at all. Second half keeps you hooked.
~ Excellent Performances by the Starcast.
~ Characterization of each role played by the lead actors is well defined. The movie presents the lead characters point of view behind their drastic steps beautifully and makes the Audiences relate to it
~ The song Rangeela Re and Pal played in the background of the movie
~ Background Music, Camera work & the Climax of the movie
Weakness of ==“Not a Love Story”==
~ First half is a bit slow and a little bore.
~ Interrogation scenes was too short and the Court scenes could have been more interesting.
~ Cinematography could have been much better.
Performances:-
~ Mahie Gill and Deepak Dobriyal are OUTSTANDING in the movie. Their eyes and faces convey a wide range of emotions – shock, dread, hysteria, distress, sorrow, resignation impeccably. Mahie Gill is very talented and she plays the role of Anusha to the precision. Deepak Dobriyal shows his versatile image and plays a contrasting character to the one that he played in Tanu weds Manu perfectly.
~ Ajay Gehi was very good in his short role and specially his body language in the entire movie was impressive.
~ Zakir Hussain was class apart in his role as an Investigating Officer. He looked effortless and completely natural. Wish he had more role in the Movie.The supporting actors played by the talented Darshan Jariwala and Ganesh Yadav as the lawyers, Mahesh Thakur as the Ad cum Film Maker, Neil Bhoopalam, Prabhleen Sandhu, Richa Ghosh and Prashant as Mahie’s friend play their part well and leave a huge mark.
Some of the Highlights of the Movie:-
~ Picturization of the song Rangeela Re and Pal highlights the emotions of the movie beautifully
~ Introductory as well as the Interrogation scenes of Zakir Hussain
~ The Murder scene as well as the scene where Robin chops the body into half
~ Scene where Robin takes Anusha outside the room to get the Car
~ Confession scene of Robin and Anusha
~ The Climax scene & the Camera work
My Rating & Verdict:
~ I won’t recommend this Movie to watch with family – As it’s not an Entertaining movie.
~People who have liked RGV’s earlier films like Shiva, Rangeela, Satya, Kaun, Company, Bhoot, Sarkar will definitely like this movie
~ My Rating: 3.5/5(Extra half point to RGV for a grand comeback)
~If you are tired of watching conventional run-of-the-mill love stories and want to watch an unconventional, intense movie then “Not a Love Story” is a must watch
