I went to munnar for 1week trip with my frinds. It is just 130 km from thekkady. We stayed in a Royal Retreat Hotel. We took 3 rooms & we stayed there. Hotel Royal Retreat, phone number with STD code(04865) 230240. Munnar is a beautiful, peaceful hill station covered with tea plantations. When I was staying the room rent was high, compare to periyar house(thekkady). The rent was Rs 2500 per room per day. It’s a cottage. Children’s play area is also there. In munnar we visited the other places like Pothenmedu, Top Station, Eravikulam-Rajamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Mattuppety Lake & Dam & Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. From that hotel just 1 km there is a temple.
The area is surrounded by vast jungles and remains wet and cold during most of the year. Munnar is essentially a tea town. The tea plantations have now been taken over by the TATA Tea Company. The other important tea estates of Kerala are Harrison Malayalam, Michael's Tea, Brooke Bond, AVT tea. When we go to that hotel we can see the tea estates & the companies.
The town of Munnar stands at the confluence of three mountain streams. When you come to Munnar you can go for trekking, boating, riding. Munnar is the Kashmir of South India, & its a part of Kerala. It is one of the most popular hill stations in India. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary(60 km from Munnar, 210 kms east of Cochin) is located in Devikulam Taluk on the Tamilnadu border. The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the rain shadow region of the Western Ghats. The sanctuary is alsi haven for two highly endangered species-the grizzled giant squirrel and the star tortoise. Another attraction is Thoovanam falls on the river Chinnar. Eravikulam National Park 15 km from Munnar, situated in the Devikulam Taluks of the Idukki District. The park is divided into 3 regions - the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. Visitors are allowed only to the tourism area which is in the Rajamalai region. The forest guards will always be in rounds & they will not allow to the other 2 areas. Trekking facilities are also available here. Tourists are allowed to go on foot up to Anamudi. This is also palace for adventure tourism. Where we really enjoyed a lot. The nearest railway station is kottayam.
