Just returned from a one-night's stay at Mody Villa, guhagar. The first clarification - it's not a resort or a hotel - but a bungalow, where rooms are let out by the owner.
Once you are aware of this, you will find it quite a nicely built bungalow with two rooms on the ground floor and four rooms on the first floor. Avoid the first floor rooms at the back, because they are tiny.
The staff are a local family living in the outhouse - grandma, son, daughters in law, etc, . who are very friendly and helpful within their capability. The caretaker, Gorakh, however seriously needs training.
The beach is a couple of 100 metres away from the bungalow and a nicely maintained track leads to it. The beach itself is gorgeous. However, there are no sun umbrellas, no deck chairs, no nothing to invite visitors to lunge on this magnificent beach. Just a little attention in this area could be very welcome.
The food cooked by the family is simple and homely, served in stainless steel utensils. In non-veg, they can cook you a fish fry or a fish curry. But don't expect more! Even for a soft drink, forget beer, they have to send some one to the market!
Other than the bungalow, and the track to the beach, there are no other amenties available. So you better be a beach lover to come to this place!
Most importantly, ask for travel directions from Guhagar if you don't want to get lost! Since this is a private bungalow and not a hotel there are no signboards! It's situated 2km beyond the ST Bus stand close to a temple.(But you are likely to miss it. So call and insist that some one stands outside and guides you in)
Also, the parking area is limited. So you might have to be called to take your car out so that the other cars in front of you can get out!
The Mody Villa location is great, the property OK, but seriously, if it is to attract upmarket visitors, considering they charge Rs.3, 000 per night per room, the services including the signboard need to be immediately upgraded.
