Okay,Calcutta is not a nice place to be in.But for four days each year and sometimes three this city undergoes a metamorphosis.From dying city it becomes carnival town.People from all over the world(that's right) like to visit Cal during this time.Yes,I am referring to the annual Durga Puja.This year its between 29th September and 2nd October.The religious significance of the carnival is there and will be there.But what makes the carnival such a great place to be in is that its one BIG party.Everyone puts on their gladrags and a nice smile and takes to the streets.Visiting the puja enclosures is an excuse.Having fun and making merry is the real objective.DP as its known to some is the time for pageantry,for gaiety for throwing caution to the winds and having a nice time.The local administration and society in general kind of gives you the license to go berserk.The carnival is chiefly for the young.Its a time to flaunt your enthusiasm and show all your energy.Well,I guess thats enough.If you must visit Calcutta anytime,come during DP.
