I know,it's been too long & everyone's almost forgotten about this movie. On my defence all I can say is that I have a long list of reviews waiting to be written & this movie's number came up there.
Sonia(Minissha Lamba) is a spoilt brat who's just on the verge of turning eighteen years of age.Her mother(Vidya Malvade) is a divorcee & it's been about ten years since Sonia's seen her dad(Sanjay Dutt). She longs to atleast spend a few hours with him on her birthday, but unfortunately her mum thinks otherwise & in a fit of anger Sonia walks away from home & goes to rejuvenate herself in a solitary beach(in Mumbai, what are the odds?).When pretty lil' Sonia opens her big eyes she finds herself comfortably stocked away in an armchair by a handsome stranger,Kabir(Imran Khan). He's immediately informs her that she's been kidnapped & compels her mother to speak to her ex husband.Sonia's dad, Vikrant Raina is already not having it easy with his multibillion dollar company's share of money being looted away by some stealthy person. When he learns about his daughter's kidnapping, his father's instincts immediately takes over & he seeks out to get even with Kabir. But Vikrant can't remember who exactly this Kabir fellow is & why exactly he kidnapped is daughter. To Vikrant's dismay,Kabir's also a technology geek who can easily make Vikrant's retrieving of his daughter back not a simple task. Finally Vikrant has to succumb to Kabir's rules & play the game as he's being ordered to.While following Kabir's clues,Vikrant slowly comes to learn of the kidnapper's history.Meanwhile,Kabir is definitely aware of how curvaceous & minimally clothed Sonia is.Will he able to keep his hands off her long enough for his serious work to get done?
The story is well written, but with blunt edges & that's what makes the movie an ok-ok type. This was supposedly Imran Khan's first movie & his acting is pretty impressive. It's nice to see that he can change from being the sweet Jai to the threatening Kabir. One can see that Sonia's character was definitely written up for Jia Khan, but Minissha Lamba does sizzle the screen with her oomph. It's a confirmation that she can go from serious films like Shaurya to being sexy in Kidnap.Sanjay Dutt does his job easily. It's a shame to see Vidya Malvade who played a go-getter in Chak De India to do a mother's role which didn't require lots of effort. It's time she started getting choosy with scripts.
All in all, only one watch will do.Unfortunately due to a few mistakes, this movie just manages to slip away. The three out of five stars stand for Sanjay & Imran's acting.
